In the past decades, an average of 20 typhoons passed through the Philippines annually, but the number has increased to about 25-35 per year – possibly a result of global warming. After Tropical Storm Ondoy assailed Metro Manila with the worst flooding it has seen in 40 years, we should be more vigilant in preparing for the worst. Here is a checklist of things to gather for your own Typhoon Survival Kit.

1) drinking water: 1 gallon per person for 3-7 days

2) food for 3-7 days: non-perishable, instant or easy to prepare

3) first aid kit

4) personal hygiene items

5) beddings and towels in large garbage bags to prevent them from getting wet

6) clothes: placed in garbage bags as well

7) candles and matches

8) fully-charged cell phones and rechargeable lamps

9) radios (AM/FM) and flashlights; extra batteries

10) cash, ATM cards and credit cards

Tags: how to prepare for a typhoon, disaster preparedness, response, recovery, survival, survial kit

<clipSource>http://www.pinoy-everything.com/In-Case-of-Emergency/How-to-Prepare-a-Typhoon-Survival-Kit.html</clipSource>

How to Prepare for a Typhoon

clipped by: pinoyeverything

Clip Source: www.pinoy-everything.com

1) Prepare your own Typhoon Survival Kit such as this one: How to prepare a typhoon survival kit

2) Make sure that your car’s gas tank is filled in case you need to use it to evacuate from your home.

3) As much as possible, stay indoors to avoid being hit by flying debris because this can be extremely dangerous.

4) Monitor weather conditions and flood warnings via television and/or AM radio news updates. This will help you determine if you should remain in your home or evacuate.

5) Determine a “safe room” in your home where it would be best for your family to ride out the storm.

6) Talk about a family evacuation plan so that everybody knows where to go in case you need to leave your home because of flooding: a house of someone you know which is on higher ground, the nearest evacuation center or other safe public buildings.

Tags: typhoon, how to prepare for a typhoon

<clipSource>http://www.pinoy-everything.com/In-Case-of-Emergency/How-to-Prepare-for-a-Typhoon.html</clipSource>

How To Get Help/ Find People Displaced By Typhoon

clipped by: pinoyeverything
clipper's remarks: As of September 28, 2009 5:44 pm Philippine time, two days after Typhoon Ondoy poured one month’s worth of rain in six hours over Manila and neighboring provinces, 100 people have been reported dead, 32 missing, five injured and 115,990 individuals have been sent to over 200 evacuation centers.

Provided below is a list of resources you can use to report people who are still in need of immediate help.

Clip Source: www.pinoy-everything.com

Me? A Morning Person? Are You Kidding? by Mommy A , Jul 18, 2009 at 09:19 PM

At kapag sinabi kong maaga, as in 5:30 am.

Tags: blogs, parenting

<clipSource>http://www.pinoy-everything.com/Mommy-A-s-Chronicles/Me-A-Morning-Person-Are-You-Kidding.html</clipSource>

Kindness Pays Off

clipped by: pinoyeverything

Clip Source: www.pinoy-everything.com

Yep, tummy, as in tiyan.

The whole family is happy and grateful for her, she’s such a wonderful bundle of joy. She’s brought so much love and happiness to each member of the family like no one else has done before. She, too has totally changed our lives. People say one’s life will never be the same again once a baby is born to a family. Indeed, my life has totally changed, both in expected and unexpected ways.

Expected were the sleepless nights, and the baby sharing our family bed, and the change in shopping priorities and the endless diaper change and the date nights to be minimized. But the unexpected are the ones that really, totally are taking a toll on me now. 1. Almost crying at my sister's last gown fitting because I already imagined how beautiful she'd be on their special day.
2. Turning into my sister’s personal sweatshop when I applied individual crystals on the soles of her bridal shoes to spell “I Do”.
3. Enjoying people’s reactions when my sister and her fiancé showed up at the rehearsal dinner wearing Bride and Groom t-shirts… with me in tow, wearing a shirt with the word “Sister” emblazoned on it. But of course.

4. Shedding a tear at the rehearsal dinner.
5. Having fun listening in on her friends from St. Scho and U.P. talking passionately about Jollibee and their favorite Filipino restaurants in San Francisco.

Tags: wedding, blogs, sisters, dinner

<clipSource>http://www.pinoy-everything.com/Mirrorball/Twenty-Five-Things-I-ll-Remember-From-My-Sister-s-Wedding.html</clipSource>

Barat Goes to the U.S.

clipped by: pinoyeverything
clipper's remarks: The scary thing was, as the days passed by, I started leaving less and less on my plate until I actually started finishing my American portions! But that, I guess, is for another blog entry...

Clip Source: www.pinoy-everything.com

On my second day in the States, my sister suggested we go to a Japanese place they love for the reasonable prices and good food. When m chicken katsu came, I had a hard time seeing the plates they came in because they were loaded with sides and an amazing amount of breaded chicken and rice. I moaned that we should’ve just split one order, but was appeased when my sister asked for containers so that we can take home our leftovers.

Tags: blogs, barat, u.s

<clipSource>http://www.pinoy-everything.com/Mirrorball/Barat-Goes-to-the-U.S.html</clipSource>

Dont'cha Hear My Twang? Tomtom Isn’t Just a Kid from “Yagit”… by kismetph , Jun 26, 2009 at 06:56 PM

… It's the brand of the GPS that helped my sister navigate to unfamiliar territory. Mostly it did its job, but it had a tick: it didn't matter where we were headed, inevitably Tomtom made us end in a mall or shopping center.

First off, it took us to Burlingame for my sister's final gown fitting, where I quipped that much of what I saw of the States so far reminded me of Sta. Rosa, Laguna! I guess I was surprised because after the drama and anxiety of waiting for my visa interview for months, I landed in a place that felt normal and rather familiar. I wasn't sure I'd want to live here, but I knew I'd want to visit again.

Tags: tomtom, gps, wedding

<clipSource>http://www.pinoy-everything.com/Mirrorball/Tomtom-Isnt-Just-a-Kid-from-Yagit%E2%80%A6.html</clipSource>

A Wicked Day

clipped by: pinoyeverything

Clip Source: www.pinoy-everything.com
