Jennifer Love Hewitt Talks Cutbacks on ‘Ghost Whisperer’

If you think successful shows such as Ghost Whisperer are spared from the runaway economy and the pressure for TV to reduce costs, think again. The star and co-producer of the CBS sci-fi series Jennifer Love Hewitt revealed in an interview with E! Online that even Ghost Whisperer, which is doing fairly well in the ratings game, need to tighten its belt if it wants to remain afloat.

“We are a special effects show, so some of our special effects stuff has had to be cut in half. We haven’t been able to do any actor raises for season five. We’ve had to cut budgets here and there. They have also been talking about shooting our show on HD to save money.”

The show goes on, however, for Hewitt, 30, who adds that she is very much looking forward to next season’s storyline, which means motherhood for her character Melinda.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the actor — who was unmasked as Lost’s enigmatic Jacob at the end of last season — is joining the cast of Supernatural as none other than the Prince of Darkness himself, Lucifer.

Mark Pellegrino’s career is on fire. Literally.

Lucifer was released from hell in Supe’s season finale last month, although we never caught a glimpse of the little devil’s face. All of that will change when Pellegrino debuts in the show’s Sept. 10 season premiere.

So, does this mean we’ve seen the last of Jacob on Lost? An ABC rep couldn’t be reached for comment, but here’s a potential clue: Pellegrino isn’t joining Supernatural as a full-time series regular; his status is listed as recurring. You do the math.

What a timely bit of news to hit this week. We just watched “Chuck vs. the Wookie” on Chuck Me Monday, and now Chuck writer/producer Ali Adler announces that, “Carina the super sexy superagent will be making an appearance in Season 3!”

The Chuck writers have been at work on season 3 for a couple of weeks now, but this is the first confirmed piece of news to escape into the Interwebz. So what do you think? Following the news that Chris Diamantopoulos will appear on season eight of 24 as President Taylor’s Chief of Staff, many fans are wondering about the status of Ethan Kanin.

Is he off the show? Could he actually take over as First Husband, now that the marriage between Taylor and her husband appears to be over (and considering the hints dropped last season that he and Taylor had an affair)?

According to various sources, the answer to both questions above is: no. Kanin will, indeed, play a role on 24 next year. He’s expected to be named Secretary of State.
