I started a little blog called Think Simple Now on September 27th, 2007 with zero experience in blogging, internet marketing or writing. By the time Christmas came, 3 months later, I had 2135 subscribers.

I’m new to blogging, in fact, I read very few blogs. I also do not follow any blogs on blogging, with the exception of a couple of articles read from doshdosh and problogger very early on.

I have three important reasons why my blog has been successful:

Concrete Goals & Focus - You can’t get what you want if you don’t know what you want.

Content Creation - Where I spend most of my time. Content and understanding your audience is king.

Getting the Word Out - Actionable tasks I did to market my blog. All are easily reproducible by anyone. But only focus on this after area 2 have been in place. Without content, all your marketing efforts will be ineffective.

<clipSource>http://www.problogger.net/archives/2008/01/30/from-0-to-2000-subscribers-in-120-days/</clipSource>

How much should you charge for your web app?

clipped by: philos

Clip Source: www.instigatorblog.com

For any entrepreneur starting a web business this is a critical question. If you’re building a web application for consumers you’re probably thinking, “I’ll give it away for free and sell advertising.” So be it. As much as I dislike that model, it’s the de facto one for consumer web apps. For business-to-business web applications, the model should be different. And I’m a strong believer in what the guys at 37Signals espouse, which is very simply, “charge for your web apps.”

But what should you charge?

Thanks to Tom Markiewicz (via Twitter) I came across On Pricing.

On Pricing is a micro-blogging site (using Tumblr) to grab information about pricing web apps from around the blogosphere. It’s run by Paul Farnell, founder of Litmus, who wrote a great article on pricing web apps awhile ago.

Pricing web apps isn’t easy.

Keep your pricing simple.

Highlight the best value.

Show your pricing.

Compare your pricing to competition.

Compare pricing to other web apps.

Test and re-jig over time.

Tags: web 2.0, pricing

<clipSource>http://www.instigatorblog.com/how-to-write-great-web-copy-from-jordan-at-tell-ten-friends/2006/10/17/</clipSource>

113 Must Read Blogging Tips

clipped by: philos

Clip Source: www.newaffiliatediscoveries.com

When I started this months 31 Days to Building a Better Blog and decided to invite readers to submit their own blog tips I’m not sure what I was really expecting - but the results have been fantastic.

I’ve just spent the last two hours surfing through the latest batch of 113 tips (that brings us up to a total of 359 reader tips on the central page) and am quite inspired. I come away from this list with new ideas, new knowledge and with another 20 or so blogs added to my out of control feed reader.

Now grab a cup of your favorite beverage and get reading!

How to install WordPress manually! by Shawn DesRochers

Communicating With People You Haven’t Met by Pearl

Why You Should Get Your Own Domain? by Mun

How To Write 50 Articles Per Week by Tejvan Pettinger

5 Blogging Mistakes I Keep Doing And Haven’t Fixed Yet by Dennis Bjørn Petersen

What Stats Should you be Interested In? by Simon

Be bold when you blog! by Bob Walsh

Tags: blogging, tips

<clipSource>http://www.newaffiliatediscoveries.com/2007/08/decide-on-your-permalink-structure-from-day-1/</clipSource>

Draft Blogger's Code of Conduct

clipped by: philos

Clip Source: radar.oreilly.com

Draft Blogger's Code of Conduct

When I wrote my Call for a Blogging Code of Conduct last week, I suggested some ideas of what such a code might contain, but didn't actually put forth a draft that people could subscribe to. We're not quite there yet, but we have a plan.

We've drafted a code of conduct that will eventually be posted on bloggingcode.org, and created a badge that sites can display if they want to link to that code of conduct.

Here's the first draft:

1.
