GM and Segway Unveil New Two-Wheel Urban Car

A solution to the world's urban transportation problems could lie in two wheels not four, according to executives for General Motors Corp. and Segway Inc.

The companies announced Tuesday that they are working together to develop a two-wheeled, two-seat electric vehicle designed to be a fast, safe, inexpensive and clean alternative to traditional cars and trucks for cities across the world.

"We're excited about doing more with less," said Jim Norrod, chief executive of Segway, the Bedford, N.H.-based maker of electric scooters. "Less emissions, less dependability on foreign oil and less space."

Indiana, US: Road Sign Warns of Dinosaurs Ahead

CARMEL, Ind. -- Someone apparently hacked into an electronic road sign in Hamilton County Monday morning, prompting stares and giggles from motorists because of the message the sign displayed.

The sign, which read "Raptors Ahead Caution," amused motorists in a construction zone on Keystone Avenue, just north of 116th Street.

NEW YORK – Was "MacGruber" a "Saturday Night Live" sketch or Pepsi commercial?

On Saturday night's "SNL," the recurring bit starring cast member Will Forte aired three times during the show, each time with comical over-the-top promotion for Pepsi.

Then on Sunday night, one of the same "MacGruber" sketches — in which Forte plays a parody of the `80s action series "MacGyver" — aired during NBC's broadcast of the Super Bowl as a commercial.

As it turns out, all were paid commercials by Pepsi, made in collaboration with producer Lorne Michaels' "Saturday Night Live."

The ads include all the same usual characteristics that the sketch series normally does

Cornucopia is beloved, but not ‘historic'

Moving it down the road to the Community Harvest Food Bank would not only be appropriate but would serve as a gateway to the city.

In 1957, Life magazine considered the then-new Eavey's supermarket on Decatur Road so spectacular, it showcased the “world's largest grocery” to a national audience.

Now the fate of the neon cornucopia that has towered over the store for more than 50 years is in doubt, after this week's announcement that the Kroger Co. intends to close the store, now a Scott's, as part of a $75 million local restructuring.

Can the cornucopia be preserved?

And that is by no means clear

Breaded tenderloin fans will be forced to find a new haunt after Acme Bar closes its doors for the last time this weekend.

The 68-year-old bar and grill, 1105 E. State Blvd., will close at 1 a.m. Sunday. Traffic has declined at the restaurant and attached liquor store, and Acme isn’t profitable anymore, owner Mike Tapp said.

Neighbors and friends have met at Acme for a meal in the family dining room or a beer at the bar since 1941. Filled with tableside jukeboxes and vinyl booths, Acme is among the last neighborhood taverns in Fort Wayne, Tapp said. Taverns were popular meeting spots in the 1940s and 1950s, but he said the crowds have dwindled in the last decade.

Six employees, including Wallace, will lose their jobs when the restaurant closes, Tapp said. Acme Bar employed 35 at its peak, but he had to cut workers as business slowed. Most remaining employees have worked there two decades or more, he said.
