He was promptly put into a two foot tall crawl space under the Commanding Officers Office where he was taunted and starved and taken out only for torture. When he was “visited” by officials he was taken out, cleaned up and dress out in “full regalia” only to be returned to the crawl space after the ‘visitors’ left. It was later reported that he “starved himself to death in protest to his being imprisoned”—–

Davis, once the Pentagon’s most ardent supporter of the military trials of Guantanamo detainees, resigned as chief prosecutor in October, saying he could no longer support prosecutions he believed were tainted by politics.

The debate about the independence and fairness of the trials could prove important in Khadr’s case.

Khadr, 21, is charged with five war crimes, including the alleged murder of Sgt. Christopher Speer, who was killed in a firefight in Afghanistan in 2002.

The charges are covered by the Military Commissions Act, which became law in 2006.

The USA actually has never been anything else but corrupt; the only difference now is that it is reported more often —-and still—little is done to stop it.

The number of civilian casualties in July of this year is believed to be higher than in any other month in the last six years.

UNITED NATIONS - Aid groups are demanding increased protections for civilians in Afghanistan as fighting continues to escalate in the Central Asian country that is regaining its status as a focal point of the U.S.-led “war on terror.”

In raising its concerns about the growing number of deaths of civilians, the Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR) says both the U.S.-led allied forces and militant groups are violating international laws of conflict.

“Searches conducted by Afghan and international forces have on some occasions involved excessive use of force, extra-judicial killings, destruction of property, and/or mistreatment of suspects,” said ACBAR director Anja de Beer.

First FISA, now this. George Carlin’s decision, made long before his death, to simply stop participating completely in so-called elections, looks now like the only sane alternative.

And someone go tell that fool Obama what happened to the British in Afghanistan in the 19th century and the Soviet Union in the 20th (plus a host of others). Or does he think so much of himself that he feels he can make the United States the exception?

I suspect the challenge of winning where others have failed has fired his imagination (just like Lyndon Johnson thought French efforts to hold on to Vietnam were of no relevance to a “guns and butter” superpower i.e. USA). What is most striking is that when the Congress was controlled by the GOP — when the Senate was run by Bill Frist and the House by Denny Hastert — the Bush administration attempted to have a bill passed very similar to the one that just passed today. But they were unable to do so. The administration had to wait until Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats took over Congress before being able to put a corrupt end to the scandal that began when, in December of 2005, the New York Times revealed that the President had been breaking the law for years by spying on Americans without the warrants required by law.Yet again, the Democratic Congress ignored the views of their own supporters in order to comply with the orders and wishes of the Bush administration. I just watched that excellent documentary, The Revolution, on PBS yesterday to see if they would come close to the truth, and they did. I was especially impressed with the segment on how Gen.George Washington wrote especially virulently racist orders to commit genocide on the Iroqouis nation during the fight vs. the British...The order was to obliterate every man, woman and child, and burn the villages of the Natives--a scorched earth policy that was carried out.
This is how our country began and despite the Constitution and all our high ideals, we have committed genocide all thru the 227 yr. history of the USA and before, from the first colonists all the way until Iraq. In the name of "Freedom", "Christian values" and all the other lies the USA brainwashes us with, the white power structure has hated people of color all along. What a sham. Happy 4th of July, fellow'Murrikans!

On January 31 of this year, Keith Olbermann donned his most serious face and most indignant voice tone to rail against George Bush for supporting telecom immunity and revisions to FISA. In a 10-minute “Special Comment,” the MSNBC star condemned Bush for wanting to “retroactively immunize corporate criminals,” and said that telecom immnity is “an ex post facto law, which would clear the phone giants from responsibility for their systematic, aggressive and blatant collaboration with [Bush’s] illegal and unjustified spying on Americans under this flimsy guise of looking for any terrorists who are stupid enough to make a collect call or send a mass email.”

Last night, Olbermann invited Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter onto his show to discuss Obama’s support for the FISA and telecom amnesty bill (video of the segment is here). There wasn’t a syllable uttered about “immunizing corporate criminals” or “textbook examples of Fascism” or the Third Reich.

BAQUBA - The real number of the dead is far higher than even the highest declared in death tolls, many Iraqis say.

A study by doctors from the Johns Hopkins School of Health in conjunction with Iraqi doctors from al-Mustanceriya University in Baghdad, published in the British medical journal The Lancet in October 2006, estimated the number of excess deaths as a result of the occupation at above 655,000.

Just Foreign Policy, an independent organisation “dedicated to reforming U.S. foreign policy” offered an updated total of 1,213,716 at the time of this writing.

On Sep. 14, 2007, Opinion Research Business (ORB), an independent polling agency located in London, produced a figure of 1,220,580 deaths as a result of the invasion.

These estimates are above any official figures from Iraq, but they do consider the reported official figures.
