Some of us helped them do it. After all, they were in the minority and couldn't do much more than write books.

But now? In the majority? Now, should they be accepting that Congress no longer has subpoena power? Now, should they be accepting that Congress no longer has the power to legislate? Now, should they be accepting that Congress has no power of the purse? Now, should they be devoting tax dollars to the pointless vanity of doing what anyone else can do: writing yet another book on Bush and Cheney's latest impeachable offenses

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

Don't Buy Conyers' New Book Unless He's Held an Impeachment Hearing
By David Swanson

House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers could impeach Bush and Cheney in an hour if he chose. They have refused to comply with subpoenas and contempt citations, making a laughingstock of his so-called "oversight." They have rewritten laws with "signing statements" and proceeded to violate the laws. They have openly admitted violating FISA. They've obstructed justice, punished whistleblowers, politicized the Justice Department, and lied us into a war, among many other abuses.

Conyers could take up Kucinich's Article XXVII, hold a real impeachment hearing just on the refusals to comply with subpoenas, and be done in under an hour, passing the matter on the the full House and fulfilling his oath of office at last. And, remember, the full House has already voted for Conyers' committee to hold impeachment hearings on Kucinich's resolutions. Conyers has no excuse not to.

<clipSource>http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-scheer/sucking-up-to-the-bankers_b_115760.html</clipSource>

"FUN WITH WAR CRIMES"

clipped by: papananook

Clip Source: www.funwithwarcrimes.com

Big "Ups"

07/28/08

Jibbidy Jabbidy

07/28/08

Congress Viewing Notes on Kucinich's Hearing on the Impeachment Resolution

07/26/08

<clipSource>http://www.funwithwarcrimes.com/</clipSource>

Impeachment Hearings: A Win Is a Win

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: I go for the second interpretation of events. It is clear, as was beautifully laid out in an article published by Glenn Greenwald in Salon magazine on July 15, that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the rest of the Democratic Party leadership both in Congress and in the party organization, have been blocking any action on impeachment for fear of having their own complicity in Bush’s and Cheney’s crimes revealed. As Greenwald notes, the Washington Post has reported that Pelosi, along with Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) were briefed on the administration’s use of torture and not only didn’t object, but actively encouraged it. Rockefeller and Harman, who at the time were minority leaders of the Senate and House Intelligence Committees at the time, were also briefed about Bush’s order to the National Security Agency to conduct warrantless spying on Americans. They didn’t object or publicly expose this blatant violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance A

Clip Source: www.commondreams.org

There are two ways to view the news that the House Judiciary Committee will be holding a hearing on impeachable crimes by President George W. Bush.

One view would be that this is all a charade and that after all, it will not be a real impeachment hearing, but rather, simply a hearing into the impeachable crimes of the Bush administration. As committee Chair Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) put it, “We’re not doing impeachment, but he [Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who introduced 36 articles of impeachment] can talk about it.” Viewed that way, this is not such a big deal. Rep. Kucinich gets to make his case that the president is committing high crimes and misdemeanors and abuses of power and war crimes, but then Congressional Democrats will continue to ignore all the crimes as it has done since taking control of Congress in November 2006.

a second way to view this is as a significant victory over the quisling Congressional leadership, which has been ducking its responsibility

<clipSource>http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/07/12/10422/</clipSource>

Some interestin moment at House Hearings on Abuse of Executive Branch Power

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: Miller has introduced legislation calling for appointment of a special prosecutor to bring criminal contempt charges against several current and former Bush administration officials for refusing to comply with congressional subpoenas. US elections are rigged long before the voting results are falsified.

The news media helps the process along by making (or trying to make) legitimate candidates disappear.

In the 2008 campaign for president, the candidates the news media are trying to trivialize and marginalize are Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich.

Why is this done? Simple. To limit the scope of the debate.

In 1992, the "disappeared" candidate was Democrat Larry Agran. He was for rebuilding America's urban areas with the money to be saved by cutting military expenditures dramatically.

The good news is that the Internet has made this kind of chicanery, much more difficult.

The surprise will be if they go out with a whimper and not a bang.

"Trouble ahead, trouble behind
Well, you know, that notion
Just crossed my mind"---Grateful Dead, Casey Jones.

<clipSource>http://community.livejournal.com/on_the_issues/13627.html</clipSource>

Six Degrees of Barack Obama

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: I am not an Obama supporter but will probaly have to vote for him, due to the Dems marginalization of Kucinich and Edwards...but I hate this campaign to smear him, esp. by Ms. Clinton, who is looking more like a Rethuglican daily!

Clip Source: www.smirkingchimp.com

The latest right-wing game is to pin controversial figures, who might have said or done anything objectionable at any point in their lifetimes, to Barack Obama. Then make him apologize for them. Then make him denounce and reject them. And then say he hasn't done enough to "distance" himself from them.

It could be his pastor, it could be his neighbor, it could be someone he served on a board with, it could be someone who donated to him, it could be someone who gave him an unsolicited endorsement (Louis Farrakhan) or it can just simply be someone who is black (Harry Belafonte).

Now, unfortunately, there is one man who is not allowed to play - John McCain. Because the media has decided that while it is eminently fair to attach any person Obama has ever met (or in some cases not even met) to him, you can never look into anyone that John McCain has ever been associated with. He is a maverick, moderate, war-hero, straight-talker.

<clipSource>http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/14316</clipSource>

Help Dennis Kucinich keep his House seat.

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: I hope he gets appointed Secretary of Defense in the next Cabinet. Take a page from the Republican playbook and put someone in who will dismantle the Pentagon.

Clip Source: www.smirkingchimp.com

As you're probably aware, Ohio's 10th Congressional is in the midst of a fierce primary battle. Motivated to seize the House seat for its preferred corporate candidate, and driven by hatred stretching back to Muny Light, the Cleveland Plain Dealer -- a very conservative newspaper and the town's only daily -- is trying to push Dennis Kucinich out after more than ten years of loyal and able service to his constituency.

The bottom line is this: Progressives must keep Ohio-10 safe.

<clipSource>http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/12845</clipSource>
