Our peaceful action had impact. The truth is a powerful tool. But if only our actions weren't necessary. If only, as Jodie Evans suggested, Madam Speaker would do her job!
Saddest of all is the contrast of who Pelosi once was to who she his now. For a woman who was once at the cutting edge of social progressivism, Nancy Pelosi has lost her way. She has strayed from her former social consciousness into the malaise of power. A sorry state for a woman who 32 years ago was a pivotal player in the 1976 Presidential campaign of radically progressive California Governor, Jerry Brown.

Clip Source: www.opednews.com

Last Monday evening, in the plush environs of Los Angeles' American Jewish University, a dedicated group of pro-peace, Pro-Constitution patriots "booked" Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. No, I don't mean "booked" as in charged her with a crime and jailed her. In this scenario, "booked" is more akin to "punked" - in which case we surprised Madam Pelosi by revising her new book, then forced her to read our revisions. Tuh-Dah!!

It happened like this: Madam Speaker of the House Pelosi, second in line to the Presidency, appeared at a book signing for her ironically titled new tome, "Know Your Power." Since Madam Pelosi has not used her power as Speaker to hold impeachment hearings against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, as prescribed by Article 1 Section 2 of the Constitution, we pro-Constitution patriots held her to task. We took her new book and scrawled our personalized imperatives and questions within it.

<clipSource>http://www.opednews.com/articles/Pelosi-Gets-Booked--Con-by-Linda-Milazzo-080818-169.html</clipSource>

Seven Republicans call for Impeachment

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: I take umbrage to charges that some are out to get the president...I take umbrage as well to those who claim that some approach this arduous task in a gleeful manner. Some of us helped them do it. After all, they were in the minority and couldn't do much more than write books.

But now? In the majority? Now, should they be accepting that Congress no longer has subpoena power? Now, should they be accepting that Congress no longer has the power to legislate? Now, should they be accepting that Congress has no power of the purse? Now, should they be devoting tax dollars to the pointless vanity of doing what anyone else can do: writing yet another book on Bush and Cheney's latest impeachable offenses

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

Don't Buy Conyers' New Book Unless He's Held an Impeachment Hearing
By David Swanson

House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers could impeach Bush and Cheney in an hour if he chose. They have refused to comply with subpoenas and contempt citations, making a laughingstock of his so-called "oversight." They have rewritten laws with "signing statements" and proceeded to violate the laws. They have openly admitted violating FISA. They've obstructed justice, punished whistleblowers, politicized the Justice Department, and lied us into a war, among many other abuses.

Conyers could take up Kucinich's Article XXVII, hold a real impeachment hearing just on the refusals to comply with subpoenas, and be done in under an hour, passing the matter on the the full House and fulfilling his oath of office at last. And, remember, the full House has already voted for Conyers' committee to hold impeachment hearings on Kucinich's resolutions. It is clear, as was beautifully laid out in an article published by Glenn Greenwald in Salon magazine on July 15, that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the rest of the Democratic Party leadership both in Congress and in the party organization, have been blocking any action on impeachment for fear of having their own complicity in Bush’s and Cheney’s crimes revealed. As Greenwald notes, the Washington Post has reported that Pelosi, along with Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) were briefed on the administration’s use of torture and not only didn’t object, but actively encouraged it. Rockefeller and Harman, who at the time were minority leaders of the Senate and House Intelligence Committees at the time, were also briefed about Bush’s order to the National Security Agency to conduct warrantless spying on Americans. They didn’t object or publicly expose this blatant violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance A

Clip Source: www.commondreams.org

There are two ways to view the news that the House Judiciary Committee will be holding a hearing on impeachable crimes by President George W. Bush.

One view would be that this is all a charade and that after all, it will not be a real impeachment hearing, but rather, simply a hearing into the impeachable crimes of the Bush administration. As committee Chair Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) put it, “We’re not doing impeachment, but he [Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who introduced 36 articles of impeachment] can talk about it.” Viewed that way, this is not such a big deal. Rep. Thirty years ago, intrigued by the ascendancy of the new right in politics and of Ronald Reagan, I had many of the conservative leaders on this broadcast to argue and debate their philosophy of society and government. My hour with Ronald Reagan remains a favorite.

RONALD REAGAN:
Government is attempting to do things today that properly belong either at a lower echelon of government or belong in the hands of the people. I believe that government exists to protect us from each other not to protect us from ourselves.

BILL MOYERS:
I watched over the years as the movement increased its power, winning control of Congress in 1994 and then electing George W. Bush eight years ago.

BILL MOYERS:
Now, controlling the party, the Presidency, and Congress, conservatives had what historian Rick Perlstein describes as their first chance in the modern era to govern on their own terms - to prove themselves. They were euphoric. And they blew it.

Ill-tempered neo-con extraordinaire, John Bolton, is pushing for war with Iran. On Sunday, June 22, he predicted longingly to FOX News that Israel would wait until after the November 4th general election to launch an attack on Iran. "[T]he most likely period," he said, "is after our elections and before the inauguration of the next President." Of course, conflict between Israel and Iran, Bolton hopes, would entangle the U.S. – and the next presidential administration – in full-scale war with Iran as well.

Other Democratic leaders, however, are taking a stand. Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) has warned the Bush administration that a drive for war with Iran could prompt impeachment hearings. Wrote Conyers in a letter to Bush last May: "[I]t is our view that if you do not obtain the constitutionally required congressional authorization before launching preemptive military strikes against Iran or any other nation, impeachment proceedings should be pursued."

Senator Jesse Helms:

I was deeply saddened to hear of Sen. Helms’ passing and want his

Helms was one of the finest, most courageous and deeply principled men
to ever serve in the United States Congress. As President’s Reagan’s
right hand and ally, he helped bring down Communism so that nations
might grow and flourish in freedom. He was a stalwart ally of freedom
fighters around the globe, knowing that we are all diminished if we
allow fascism to flourish. He was also the consummate gentleman,
revered by colleagues, staff and friends for his unfailing kindness,
good humor, generosity and patriotism.

Clip Source: nielsenhayden.com

A handful of giant oil companies that met secretly with Vice President Dick Cheney in 2001 are poised to get “unusual” no-bid contracts from the Iraqi government to boost production -- further proof that the U.S. invaded Iraq for oil, says Congressman Dennis Kucinich.

Congressman Wexler of the Judiciary Committee has been publicly pressing for impeachment hearings for many months.

Have you seen any of these hearings on TV?

Have you even heard about them?

Bush & Co. should not only being impeached, there need to be criminal charges including but not limited to treason.
