After all, Sarah Palin is anti-choice, pro-abstinence, anti sex-ed, religiously fundamentalist, a creationist, about as friendly to feminism and women's reproductive rights as John McCain is to his beloved "gooks."

But here's the saddest part of all: Governor Palin knew. She absolutely had to realize that her daughter's unfortunate condition would come to light when McCain offered her this bizarre gig. To which we can only say: Way to shove your own daughter under the wheels of the GOP Machine, Governor Palin. Ultimate sacrifice indeed.

Clip Source: www.sfgate.com

This just in: Even the Lord has abandoned the desperate, shameful Right

This just in: Hurricane of delicious irony slams Republican National Convention, flooding the streets of Minneapolis/St. Paul with rivers of savage hypocrisy as levees of evangelical denial and sexual confusion overflow into the streets, leaving stunned party members scrambling in vain for shaky moral high ground.

As a result, even US critics of the administration's policies are reluctant to condemn aggression by other countries because they do not want to be accused of what the Bush regime, worldwide, will perhaps be most remembered for -- hypocrisy.

Clip Source: www.commondreams.org

"The true hypocrite is the one who ceases to perceive his deception, the one who lies with sincerity."

--André Gide

One of the legacies of Bush's tragically flawed foreign policy is that it has managed to silence Americans who believe that the United States -- for all its faults -- should condemn aggression in other parts of the world.

If one word describes how Bush has dealt with the rest of our small planet, it is hypocrisy. For the past eight years, the administration's deeds have seldom, if ever, matched its rhetoric. Operation Iraqi Freedom, it now seems clearer than ever, was in fact Operation Iraqi Oil. While the State Department issues human rights reports, the Bush/Cheney regime supports dictators who suppress the innocent. And in Eastern Europe, which the administration proclaims should be a region of peace and stability, it is heightening tensions by installing missile systems against "the Iranian threat."

<clipSource>http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/08/21-1</clipSource>

Our Genocidal track record

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: I know, y'all think I hate America...Not so, but I despise what the people of the USA has done in so many instances of genocidal hypocrisy...I cannot celebrate our Independence without seeing all the death and destruction we have brouht to the brown, red and yellow segments of Mankind. I'm thoroughly disgusted with 'Murrika today and especially of the last 8 years. Our collective karma is disastrous and the Empire will fall, just like all Empires do. The "Noble Experiment" in Democracy gets a big FAIL. Despite all the good we have done, the USA is a racist, war-loving, greedy, Earth-polluting, voracious nation. Pretty sad when you think about it, neh?

Clip Source: clipmarks.com

I just watched that excellent documentary, The Revolution, on PBS yesterday to see if they would come close to the truth, and they did. I was especially impressed with the segment on how Gen.George Washington wrote especially virulently racist orders to commit genocide on the Iroqouis nation during the fight vs. the British...The order was to obliterate every man, woman and child, and burn the villages of the Natives--a scorched earth policy that was carried out.
This is how our country began and despite the Constitution and all our high ideals, we have committed genocide all thru the 227 yr. history of the USA and before, from the first colonists all the way until Iraq. In the name of "Freedom", "Christian values" and all the other lies the USA brainwashes us with, the white power structure has hated people of color all along. What a sham. Happy 4th of July, fellow'Murrikans!

<clipSource>http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/EC2C56E5-3340-4040-A0E1-358D0015ACA7/</clipSource>

Anti-Americanism at record levels worldwide

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: geez, what a surprise!

Clip Source: www.japantoday.com

Anti-Americanism is at record levels thanks to U.S. policies such as the war in Iraq, and Washington’s perceived hypocrisy in abiding by its own democratic values, U.S. lawmakers said Wednesday.

A House of Representatives committee report based on expert testimony and polling data reveals U.S. approval ratings have fallen to record lows across the world since 2002, particularly in Muslim countries and Latin America.

It says the problem arises not from a rejection of U.S. culture, values and power but primarily from its policies, such as backing authoritarian regimes while promoting democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

“Our physical strength has come to be seen not as a solace but as a threat, not as a guarantee of stability and order but as a source of intimidation, violence and torture,” said Bill Delahunt, chairman of the subcommittee on international organizations, human rights and oversight.

<clipSource>http://www.japantoday.com//category/world/view/anti-americanism-at-record-levels-worldwide-report-shows</clipSource>

An eyes-wide-open prayer for peace

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: One really good song and video

Clip Source: www.brasschecktv.com

"Oh dear Lord,
Please don't just bless

Rice, in the Iraqi capital to tout security gains and what she calls an emerging political consensus, said al-Sadr is content to issue threats and edicts from the safety of Iran, where he is studying. Al-Sadr heads an unruly militia that was the main target of an Iraqi government assault in the oil-rich city of Basra last month, and his future role as a spoiler is an open question.

“I know he’s sitting in Iran,” Rice said dismissively, when asked about al-Sadr’s latest threat to lift a self-imposed cease-fire with government and U.S. forces. “I guess it’s all-out war for anybody but him,” Rice said. “I guess that’s the message; his followers can go to their deaths and he’s in Iran.”

<clipSource>http://www.japantoday.com//category/world/view/rice-in-baghdad-calls-al-sadr-coward</clipSource>

Afghanistan-- The "Good Good War" Is A Bad War

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: I had suggested to Marina that we meet in the safety of the Intercontinental Hotel, where foreigners stay in Kabul, but she said no. She had been there once and government agents, suspecting she was Rawa, had arrested her. We met instead at a safe house, reached through contours of bombed rubble that was once streets, where people live like earthquake victims awaiting rescue.
The reason the United States gave for invading Afghanistan in October 2001 was "to destroy the infrastructure of al-Qaeda, the perpetrators of 9/11". The women of Rawa say this is false. In a rare statement on 4 December that went unreported in Britain, they said: "By experience, [we have found] that the US does not want to defeat the Taliban and al-Qaeda, because then they will have no excuse to stay in Afghanistan and work towards the realisation of their economic, political and strategic interests in the region."

Clip Source: www.zmag.org

Rawa is the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan, which since 1977 has alerted the world to the suffering of women and girls in that country. There is no organisation on earth like it. It is the high bar of feminism, home of the bravest of the brave. Year after year, Rawa agents have travelled secretly through Afghanistan, teaching at clandestine girls' schools, ministering to isolated and brutalised women, recording outrages on cameras concealed beneath their burqas. They were the Taliban regime's implacable foes when the word Taliban was barely heard in the west: when the Clinton administration was secretly courting the mullahs so that the oil company Unocal could build a pipeline across Afghanistan from the Caspian.

Indeed, Rawa's understanding of the designs and hypocrisy of western governments informs a truth about Afghanistan excluded from news, now reduced to a drama of British squaddies besieged by a demonic enemy in a "good war".

<clipSource>http://www.zmag.org/sustainers/content/2008-03/25pilger.cfm</clipSource>

Yes, There IS Something Wrong With That!

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: I have some gay friends who are Not hypocrites, and they think this is just a SICK guy, repressed and in denial

Clip Source: www.alternet.org

More Men Come Forward With Allegations About Sex With Larry Craig

 Thanksgiving Hypocrisy

As it's now celebrated, Thanksgiving is already shameful. While barely giving thanks, if at all, we forget millions of poor, deprived and oppressed peoples everywhere and our government's role in their condition. We also ignore the systematic dismantling of our constitutional rights and denial of essential social services to growing millions without them. And we're too distracted by bread, circuses and overindulgence to oppose injustice and support the rights and needs of people everywhere.

Along with war, militarism, expansionism and free market fundamentalism, we're a nation addicted to privilege. It's always been this way despite our prevailing fiction of an egalitarian country respecting everyone's rights. That's nonsense in a nation glorifying wealth and power and those with it claiming a divine right for more.

Tags: thanksgiving, amrika

<clipSource>http://www.zmag.org/sustainers/content/2007-11/20lendman.cfm</clipSource>

VALERIE PLAME CALLS HER OUTING TREASON

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: i love her answer to Maher's question, " But the penalty for treason is death, isn't it?"

Clip Source: www.alternet.org

Bill Maher Interviews Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson: "Cheney, Rove, Libby...Are Guilty of Treason" [VIDEO]

It looks increasingly hypocritical when the government insists
that it must break the law in order to save us. It's become the
government's mantra that it cannot protect us unless it breaks
the law at will, without oversight, and without our knowledge or
consent. It's been openly stated that unless our basic rights
are fully yielded to the government, further terrorist attacks
will come, and because of our failure to yield what literally
defines us, those attacks will be our own fault.

Several of the amendments to the constitution, our basic
inalienable rights, have been thoroughly and systematically
undermined due to government urging and incessant claims that
they need our rights in order to do their jobs.

It's time to ask for clarification of the term 'national

Or for that matter, in your average born-again Christian megachurch? Or in the U.S. military? Or in (your morally righteous group's name here)? Ten percent of them? Fifty? A hundred and four?

Not exactly a revelation, I admit. As you already know and as any D.C. therapist or male prostitute or honest historian will happily remind you, this is the way it's always been; incidents like Idaho Sen. Larry Craig's toe-tapping in the tearoom merely reinforce the great Rule of Conservative Hypocrisy -- the louder and more self-righteous the indignation over a given "moral" issue, the more sure you can be that the screamer in question is simply oozing with repressed fantasy/lust regarding that very issue -- and what's more, is very likely acting on it, right now, in a fetish dungeon, brothel or bathroom stall near you.
