It's the Law, Stupid! - Advertising or branding a product with environmental achievements that are already required or mandated by existing laws. For example, if an industry or company has been forced to change a product, clean up its pollution or protect an endangered species, then uses PR campaigns to make such action look proactive or voluntary.

1 million pythons, boa constrictors and anacondas

Almost 1 million pythons, boa constrictors and anacondas were imported into the United States from 2002-2006—more than 500 a day—and more were bred in captivity here.

Pythons, boa constrictors and anacondas belong in the wild, not kept in cages as pets.

Speak out for the welfare of snakes.

The practice of keeping such snakes as pets is a threat to human health and safety, the environment, and the welfare of the animals themselves. They are dangerous, may carry disease and can wreak havoc on ecosystems if released into the wild. Additionally, the snakes suffer when people cannot meet their complex dietary and habitat needs.

Between now and April 30, The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) is accepting public comment on a notice of inquiry, the first step in a process that could ultimately prohibit importation and interstate trade of pythons, boa constrictors, and anacondas as pets.

Please take a moment now to submit your comments to help snakes.

Carter's Hamas Talks Could Aid Exodus to Peace

clipper's remarks: In a larger sense, the view of Hamas as a party so evil that no one may even talk with it keeps many Jews in a state of spiritual slavery. It reinforces their long-standing habit of defining Jewish identity primarily in terms of radical vulnerability, as if the only meaningful way to be Jewish were to stand firm against an enemy and always be ready to shoot at that enemy.

This slavery is especially tragic because it is self-imposed. It arises not from objective perception of facts imposed from outside, but from choices that Jews themselves make, choices that Jimmy Carter calls them to reconsider. So this Baptist leader, more than anyone else, can now claim the title of a modern-day Moses, willing to lead the Jews from slavery to freedom. Carter stands as a fine example of what the ancient rabbis called "a righteous gentile."

Jews around the world sat down to their Passover seders this past weekend, commemorating their ancestors' exodus from slavery to freedom. Yet right now the person who is doing more than anyone else to free the Jews is a devout Baptist, Jimmy Carter. The former president is meeting with leaders throughout the Middle East -- including, most controversially, the top political leadership of the Hamas party. This has predictably angered the U.S. and Israeli governments and the U.S. mainstream press.

The "Egypt" that enslaves them is a set of self-defeating beliefs in their own minds. They are enslaved to the notion that Hamas must be treated as pariah "terrorists," and one must never talk with "terrorists." That convenient tale prevents the Israeli government from entering peace negotiations. It keeps Israeli Jews trapped in the continuing risks and tensions of a state-of-siege mentality that prevents the exodus they need so badly now: moving from insecurity to genuine peace and security.

Apr. 17 - Thanks to webcams overlooking the nest, residents of Belgium's capital can follow the first tentative steps of four young falcons.

The nest is in a bell tower balcony of the Saint Michel and Gudule cathedral in the centre of Brussels. Tourists and bystanders are spending hours waiting for the falcons to come out of the church.

WASHINGTON, DC—In a televised address to the American people Tuesday, a determined President Bush vowed that the U.S. would defeat "whoever exactly it is we're at war with here."

Flanked by Condoleezza Rice and Donald Rumsfeld, President Bush pledges to "exact revenge, just as soon as we know who we're exacting revenge against and where they are."

"The United States is preparing to strike, directly and decisively, against you, whoever you are, just as soon as we have a rough idea of your identity and a reasonably decent estimate as to where your base is located."

Added Bush: "That is, assuming you have a base."

"America faces a long road ahead," McCain said. "We do not yet know the nature of 21st-century warfare. We do not yet know how to fight this sort of fight. And I'll be damned if one of us has an inkling who we will be fighting against. With any luck, they've got uniforms of some sort."

"Christ," McCain continued, "what if the terrorists' base of operation turns out to be Detroit?
