I'm thoroughly disgusted with 'Murrika today and especially of the last 8 years. Our collective karma is disastrous and the Empire will fall, just like all Empires do. The "Noble Experiment" in Democracy gets a big FAIL. Despite all the good we have done, the USA is a racist, war-loving, greedy, Earth-polluting, voracious nation. Pretty sad when you think about it, neh?

Clip Source: clipmarks.com

I just watched that excellent documentary, The Revolution, on PBS yesterday to see if they would come close to the truth, and they did. I was especially impressed with the segment on how Gen.George Washington wrote especially virulently racist orders to commit genocide on the Iroqouis nation during the fight vs. the British...The order was to obliterate every man, woman and child, and burn the villages of the Natives--a scorched earth policy that was carried out.
This is how our country began and despite the Constitution and all our high ideals, we have committed genocide all thru the 227 yr. history of the USA and before, from the first colonists all the way until Iraq. In the name of "Freedom", "Christian values" and all the other lies the USA brainwashes us with, the white power structure has hated people of color all along. What a sham. Happy 4th of July, fellow'Murrikans!

<clipSource>http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/EC2C56E5-3340-4040-A0E1-358D0015ACA7/</clipSource>

Police brutality/violence at Rainbow Gathering

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: a link to a blog that had a post on the incident and also has really nice updates on the Rainbow Gathering:
http://adap2k.blogspot.com/2008/07/rainbow-family-attacked-by-feds-peppers.html
and has this audio:
http://adap2k.blogspot.com/2008/07/audio-rainbow-family-attacked-by-feds.html

I have not yet seen anything appear on You Tube.

Here is a link to Pinedale Online which has been reporting regularly on the Gathering:
http://www.pinedaleonline.com/news/2008/06/RainbowFamilyGatheri.htm

Here is a link to a blog that has been offering updated information when possible:
http://wyominggathering
.blogspot.com/

Ah, that's really a shame...and growing evidence of the nature of the Police State in which we are currently suffering. Meanwhile, the IWC’s Scientific Committee continued its important work on assessments of threats to whales from ship strikes, fisheries entanglements, and underwater noise generated by human technology, including energy company exploration, as well as from emerging and recurring diseases.

Clip Source: www.hsus.org

With whales threatened by increasing harm from ship strikes, pollution, underwater noise, and climate change, whaling nations promised no reductions in their take at this year’s International Whaling Commission meeting, which ended Friday in Chile.

No End to the Killing

The biggest whale slaughter in the world will continue, as Japan kills nearly 17,000 Dall’s porpoises. Where is Mossad when it's needed? "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?" If he was such a bad man could no one be found to "judicially assassinate" this 'turbulent' ruler? Keeping the rules has NOT been the hallmark of this administration, so why not 'eliminate' Saddam?

The truth is that he was never the target. Assassination would not have produced occupation. It would have save 4,000+ US lives but we have learnt that these didn't matter either. The out of sight, out of mind, no presidential presence at funerals worked for AWOL Bush. However the broken in mind and body will not go away so easily. Until they are swamped by the next lot.

<div align="center" But more than half of Americans can name at least two members of the fictional cartoon family, according to a survey.

"The study by the new McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum found that 22 percent of Americans could name all five Simpson family members, compared with just 1 in 1,000 people who could name all five First Amendment freedoms."

<clipSource>http://www.alternet.org/democracy/90161/</clipSource>

What You Eat Might Actually Improve Your Intelligence

clipped by: Silkweaver
clipper's remarks: Am going to find something smart to eat.
brb

Clip Source: www.physorg.com

New research findings published online in The FASEB Journal provide more evidence that if we get smart about what we eat, our intelligence can improve.

According to MIT scientists, dietary nutrients found in a wide range of foods from infant formula to eggs increase brain synapses and improve cognitive abilities.

In the study, gerbils were given various combinations of three compounds needed for healthy brain membranes: choline, found in eggs; uridine monophosphate (UMP) found in beets; and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), found in fish oils. Other gerbils were given none of these to serve as a baseline. Then they were checked for cognitive changes four weeks later.

The scientists found that the gerbils given choline with UMP and/or DHA showed cognitive improvements in tasks thought to be relevant to gerbils, such as navigating mazes.

"Now that we know how to make gerbils smarter,"

it's not too far a stretch to hope that people's intelligence can also be improved.

Tags: nutrition, intelligence, health

<clipSource>http://www.physorg.com/news134229309.html</clipSource>

McCain's volatile temper

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: What really annoys me about McCain is his kinda shrug-off attitude to anyone challenin his ideas or his so-called hero status...I'd like to know what missions he flew in Vietnam and who he bombed before he was shot down.

Clip Source: www.mcclatchydc.com

GULFPORT, Miss. — John McCain engaged in a physical confrontation in 1987 with a left-wing Sandinista leader during a diplomatic meeting in Nicaragua, according to one of his colleagues, Sen.
