clipper's remarks: I know, y'all think I hate America...Not so, but I despise what the people of the USA has done in so many instances of genocidal hypocrisy...I cannot celebrate our Independence without seeing all the death and destruction we have brouht to the brown, red and yellow segments of Mankind. I'm thoroughly disgusted with 'Murrika today and especially of the last 8 years. Our collective karma is disastrous and the Empire will fall, just like all Empires do. The "Noble Experiment" in Democracy gets a big FAIL. Despite all the good we have done, the USA is a racist, war-loving, greedy, Earth-polluting, voracious nation. Pretty sad when you think about it, neh?

I just watched that excellent documentary, The Revolution, on PBS yesterday to see if they would come close to the truth, and they did. I was especially impressed with the segment on how Gen.George Washington wrote especially virulently racist orders to commit genocide on the Iroqouis nation during the fight vs. the British...The order was to obliterate every man, woman and child, and burn the villages of the Natives--a scorched earth policy that was carried out.
This is how our country began and despite the Constitution and all our high ideals, we have committed genocide all thru the 227 yr. history of the USA and before, from the first colonists all the way until Iraq. In the name of "Freedom", "Christian values" and all the other lies the USA brainwashes us with, the white power structure has hated people of color all along. What a sham. Happy 4th of July, fellow'Murrikans!

The police presence at the Rainbow Gathering this year was quite unsettling. There is always some type of police presence near the Gathering and sometimes within the Gathering, but this year seemed to be heavy on that presence (at least in my limited experience - this was my 4th Gathering since 1998). On our way in to the Gathering on July 2 and out of the Gathering on July 6, through the mountain dirt and gravel roads, we saw people pulled over and dogs searching cars in numerous spots. There were reports of people being cited for things like not using turn signals to turn onto dirt roads from other dirt roads, not applying brakes properly on curves, and not adhering to the 20 mile per hour speed limit, even if they were just one mile over that limit.

Shortly after that there was a commotion from the forest at the edge of the meadow. People were screaming that the police had opened fire in Kiddie Village. What we learned was this:

She walked out of a "Hannity & Colmes" installment after the Don Imus "nappy-headed ho's" controversy was twisted into a discussion of Democratic vices, and once asked on her radio program after an appearance on "The O'Reilly Factor," "Why is Bill O'Reilly afraid of George Soros?" (In the same broadcast, Ingraham accused columnist Helen Thomas of working for Hezbollah, which has been identified by the U.S. government as a terrorist group.)

WASHINGTON -- Former White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove won't testify next week before a House committee investigating the prosecution of former Gov. Don Siegelman, despite a threat of a contempt proceeding.

Rove is exerting executive privilege and declined the invitation to appear before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, his attorney Robert Luskin wrote to the House panel Tuesday. A lawsuit is pending in federal court in Washington over whether top White House officials can be compelled to testify before Congress, he wrote.

The Judiciary Committee has been seeking Rove's testimony since April, and committee Chairman Rep. John Con-
yers, D-Mich., said in a response letter sent Thursday that he was "disappointed" with Rove's decision.

Obama on abortion rights:

WASHINGTON — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says "mental distress" should not qualify as a justification for late-term abortions, a key distinction not embraced by many supporters of abortion rights.

Obama then added: "Now, I don't think that 'mental distress' qualifies as the health of the mother. I think it has to be a serious physical issue that arises in pregnancy, where there are real, significant problems to the mother carrying that child to term."

In my experience, mental distress = child abuse. I think of all the mothers out there going through all kinds of hell, and I'm astonished at the arrogance. That's ~~three~~ ~~four~~ five strikes against Obama in two weeks. The centrist thing isn't working for me.

KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai has ordered an inquiry into allegations that 15 civilians were killed in a U.S. military strike targeting militants.

An Afghan boy believed to have been injured in a coalition bombing is placed in a stretcher Sunday.

The probe into Friday's incident on the border of Konar and Nurestan provinces came as local officials said another coalition bombing in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday killed at least 23 people and wounded 10 others who were walking to a wedding party.

U.S. military Capt. Christian Patterson said he had heard no reports that civilians had been killed in Friday's incident.

Among the civilians that were reportedly killed in Friday's U.S. helicopter attack were five members of one family: a doctor and at least two children, the spokesman said.

Karzai has stepped up pressure on his U.S. allies to take more precautions when carrying out military operations against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

On his radio show Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh commented on the news of his astronomical new contract estimated at $400 million. Limbaugh told his audience, "I'm not retiring until every American agrees with me." The deal pays Limbaugh to keep dishing his views through 2016.

The New York Times has more on how Limbaugh's windfall stacks up against other conservative hosts.

Mr. Limbaugh is not the only radio star who is busy pumping his franchise. Sean Hannity, the country's No. 2 host according to Talkers Magazine, is in contract talks with his current syndication company, ABC Radio, as well as Premiere, for a potential three-way deal, according to two sources close to the negotiations. They requested anonymity because the deal had not been signed.

Glenn Beck, another popular host, signed a new contract with Premiere last year that will pay him $10 million a year through 2012.
