"We believe that this is not war on terror. This is war on innocent civilians. Look at the massacres carried out by NATO forces in Afghanistan. Look what they did in May in the Farah province, where more than 150 civilians were killed, most of them women and children. They used white phosphorus and cluster bombs. There were 200 civilians on 9th of September killed in the Kunduz province, again most of them women and children. You can see the Web site of professor Marc Herold, this democratic man, to know better the war crimes in Afghanistan imposed on our people. The United States and NATO eight years ago occupied my country under the banner of woman's rights and democracy. But they have only pushed us from the frying pan into the fire. They put into power men who are photocopies o

Clip Source: www.commondreams.org

warlords we champion in Afghanistan
are as venal, as opposed to the rights of women and basic democratic
freedoms, and as heavily involved in opium trafficking as the Taliban.
The moral lines we draw between us and our adversaries are fictional.
The uplifting narratives used to justify the war in Afghanistan are
pathetic attempts to redeem acts of senseless brutality. War cannot be
waged to instill any virtue, including democracy or the liberation of
women. War always empowers those who have a penchant for violence and
access to weapons. War turns the moral order upside down and abolishes
all discussions of human rights. War banishes the just and the decent
to the margins of society.

weapons of war do not separate the
innocent and the damned. An aerial drone is our version of an
improvised explosive device. An iron fragmentation bomb is our answer
to a suicide bomb. A burst from a belt-fed machine gun causes the same
terror and bloodshed among civilians no matter who pulls the trigger.

<clipSource>http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/11/02</clipSource>

Activist's Message at USF: End Needless Waste of Food

clipped by: papananook

Clip Source: www.commondreams.org

JOLIET -- Vandana Shiva is giving new meaning to the old metaphor, "You reap what you sow."

"We have mastered the art of wasting the planet," she said. More of an interesting article:

"No one seems to be saying this out loud -- yet -- but let's put it bluntly: less than a year into the 15-year span of Global Trends 2025, the days of America's unquestioned global dominance have come to an end. It may take a decade or two (or three) before historians will be able to look back and say with assurance, "That was the moment when the United States ceased to be the planet's preeminent power and was forced to behave like another major player in a world of many competing great powers." The indications of this great transition, however, are there for those who care to look."

Clip Source: www.alternet.org

Okay, now for the serious version of the above: In November 2008, the National Intelligence Council (NIC), an affiliate of the Central Intelligence Agency, issued the latest in a series of futuristic publications intended to guide the incoming Obama administration. Peering into its analytic crystal ball in a report entitled Global Trends 2025, it predicted that America's global preeminence would gradually disappear over the next 15 years -- in conjunction with the rise of new global powerhouses, especially China and India. The report examined many facets of the future strategic environment, but its most startling, and news-making, finding concerned the projected long-term erosion of American dominance and the emergence of new global competitors. "Although the United States is likely to remain the single most powerful actor [in 2025]," it stated definitively, the country's "relative strength -- even in the military realm -- will decline and U.S. leverage will become more constrained."

<clipSource>http://www.alternet.org/story/143514/6_signs_that_the_american_empire_is_coming_to_an_early_end</clipSource>

George Bush vs. Harry Potter

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: Oh...WITCHES AND SORCERERS!!!!
          These were the nut jobs
who were running the country

I couldn't make this shit up if I tried.

There are millions of these people in the US - their numbers are growing.

JK ROWLING was denied a top US honour because President George Bush's advisers believed her books "encouraged witchcraft", it was claimed last night.

A new book reveals the Scots-based Harry Potter author was nominated for a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

But White House officials objected because they said she promoted SORCERY in her boy wizard series, which has been made into smash-hit movies starring Daniel Radcliffe

So they stopped JK receiving the US's top gong for civilians who contribute to America, world peace or culture.

The claim is made in Speechless: Tales of a White House Survivor, written by Matt Latimer, an ex-speechwriter for Bush.

He said "narrow thinking" led "people in the White House to actually object to giving the author JK Rowling a presidential medal because the Harry Potter books encourage witchcraft".

<clipSource>http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/729.html</clipSource>

The Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex and the USAnian Empire

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: Very interesting series of videos-- see links

Clip Source: therealnews.com

The Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex Pt1

Larry Wilkerson: The beginning of the American "Imperial Rome" and Eisenhower's warning October 26, 2009

The Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex Pt2

Wilkerson: From US debt to the geopolitics of oil, the US empire will come to an end October 27, 2009

Will the empire end with good leadership or blood?

Larry Wilkerson: The Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex Pt3 October 28, 2009

<clipSource>http://therealnews.com/t/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=33&Itemid=74&jumival=460</clipSource>

NY Times: Afghan Opium Kingpin On CIA Payroll

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: What have I been sayin' for over a year? At one point he was put on a suicide watch and had his ammunition taken away for a week. After Iraq, Chance declined a $27,000 reenlistment bonus and transitioned to the U.S. Army Reserves, hoping to avoid another deployment. He sought and was receiving treatment at a Veterans Affairs facility. Gregg said, “We sat down as a family, and we said, ‘President Obama is going to be elected, and President Obama will end this war, and you won’t have to go.’ ” But then his son’s orders to deploy came again.
the GI Rights Hotline, which advises active-duty soldiers on options for leaving the military, says outside psychological professionals can help suicidal soldiers obtain a medical discharge: “The military wants to know whether the patient can perform their duties without causing trouble, embarrassment or expense. I have no idea why I like this song, but I liked it when it was new and I still like it today. This is the single version that came out on Columbia way back when, and it was years later when I finally heard the full 10+ minute version. Now, whenever I hear this single edit version, I can clearly hear the edits all over this song. But I still like it.

I think this it what happened.

The guys who created the Fed knew that they were involved in a massive criminal enterprise that would have been opposed by anyone who understood it.

So for the first two generations, critics were marginalized, sometimes violently.

This has been the way of central banks and other gangster organizations since the beginning of time.

But now, three/four generations later, the thing is so institutionalized and so arrogant, they've lost their edge.

Think of the slave trade.

When it was founded, it was an entirely "respectable" business. Eventually, when the original generation of psychopaths who started it and their descendants died off, common courage and justice finally prevailed.

The investment banks that nearly destroyed the economy are doing great now thanks to the trillion dollar plus "no strings" bail outs they received while the rest of the economy staggers and still appears to be heading off a cliff.

<clipSource>http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/714.html</clipSource>

Timewarp: How your brain creates the fourth dimension

clipped by: papananook
clipper's remarks: Recalls the Chambers Bros. The cable suddenly unclips and he plummets towards the concrete below.

Panic sets in, but he's been given an assignment and so, fighting his fear of death, he stares at the instrument strapped to his wrist, before falling into the sweet embrace of a safety net.
