how about saving the whale's life by staying the fuck out of its way, the whale went back to sea in its own good time.

How about stopping their own whale hunt. I don't see why they put so much effort in saving this one, while they are killing many others in their whale hunts.

True, their methods weren't the best, but their intentions were, as imperial31 said (though he could be politer about it). Besides, most whales aren't that vicious...they're the 'gentle giants' for a reason, after all. It not a usual thing for them to attack....

A Japanese whaling ship sent up a distress signal in the Antarctic after it reportedly collided with a boat carrying anti-whaling activists.

Campaigners for the US-based Sea Shepherd group said the clash happened as they tried to block the Japanese ship's access to a pod of whales.

They said their boat suffered a 1m (3ft) gash to its hull, and the whaling ship's propeller had been damaged.

Japanese officials said the group was behaving like pirates.

Anti-whaling activists have been pursuing the Japanese whaling ships for weeks, in the icy southern waters, as they hunt 850 minke whales and 10 fin whales.

A temporary truce was called on Friday when the whalers joined a hunt for two activists, who became lost during a confrontation.

"They backed into us," the group's spokesman, Paul Watson said, adding that their ship the Robert Hunter had received a "gash in the steel of the hull".

No-one was believed to have been hurt, and no serious damage to either ship was reported.

Japan's annual Antarctic whale-hunting season has fallen short of its target catch because of disruptions by anti-whaling activists, officials say.

The fisheries agency said activists had stepped up attacks on whaling ships

Japan's Fisheries Agency said its fleet had killed 679 Minke whales out of a planned 935, and just one Fin whale, despite a target of 50.

It partly blamed the disruptions on the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, a US-based environmental group.

Protesters had escalated their attacks on Japanese ships, the agency said.

The Fisheries Agency said 16 days of hunting were lost due to bad weather and confrontations at sea between activists and the six-ship whaling fleet.

It added that several hunting ships were damaged in collisions or by chemicals thrown by the protesters.

Consumption of whale meat is now low, but attempts have been made to increase its popularity by marketing whale curry and whale burgers, he adds.

Whale watching turns a profit, while hunting may incur a loss

Whale watching generates far more money than whale hunting, according to a report released at the International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting here.

Worldwide, the industry now generates about $2.1bn per year, it says.

The group commissioning the report, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (Ifaw), says whaling countries would gain from a switch to whale watching.

However, Iceland's delegate here said the two industries were compatible and could grow together.

Iceland recently announced a major expansion of its fin whale hunt and plans to take 150 of the animals this year, along with up to 100 minke whales.

"Whale watching is clearly more environmentally sustainable and economically beneficial than hunting, and whales are worth far more alive than dead," he told BBC News.

Wallabies have been observed acting strangely in poppy fields

Australian wallabies are eating opium poppies and creating crop circles as they hop around "as high as a kite", a government official has said.

Australia supplies about 50% of the world's legally-grown opium used to make morphine and other painkillers.

"Then they crash," she added. "We see crop circles in the poppy industry from wallabies that are high."

"There have been many stories about sheep that have eaten some of the poppies after harvesting and they all walk around in circles," he added.

Retired Tasmanian poppy farmer Lyndley Chopping also said he had seen strange behaviour from wallabies in his fields.

"They would just come and eat some poppies and they would go away," he told ABC News.

"They'd come back again and they would do their circle work in the paddock."

Others lack insurance because pre-existing illnesses deny them access to private insurance. There also are millions with no way to pay for soaring health insurance payments because they have lost their jobs.

Nearly all Republicans and some moderate Democrats oppose any public plan option. These are the same lawmakers who receive many government-provided perks including health insurance.

In his remarks to the AMA, Obama warned against "scare tactics" and "fear mongering" by opponents of the public plan option, which the President said should be available to those who have no health insurance.

Obama rejected the "illegitimate concern that's being put forward by those who are claiming that a public option is somehow a Trojan horse for a single-payer system."

Obama should tear a page out of LBJ's vote-getting manual and shame the heartless opponents.

A universal health care system based on the single-payer model appears to be a bridge too far for President Barack Obama.

A single-payer system, such as Medicare for everyone, would provide health care for all.

President Lyndon Johnson had the courage to weigh in with all his clout to win passage of Medicare and Medicaid.

President Roosevelt put all his chips on the table to win passage of the Social Security Act that makes the elderly more secure.

All around the world, governments have long made medical care available for their citizens. Why not us?

Obama clearly has no stomach for the political battle that any single-payer plan would ignite. So he's endorsed a step that would allow the government to provide health insurance coverage -- not health care -- to eligible people. Such government-sponsored health insurance is being considered in Congress as it writes health care reform legislation.

The Corps approved a permit allowing Coeur Alaska to put the tailings in Lower Slate Lake, even though it would kill the fish -- Dolly Varden and threespine stickleback. The permit required the company to restore the lake when the mine closes and restock it with fish. Otherwise, the company would have to forfeit its reclamation bond.

The U.S. Supreme Court's Monday decision allowing a gold mine near Juneau to discharge its waste into a fish-bearing lake could be the final word in the long-running dispute.

Selling this type of technology to oppressive regimes is not in line with the ethical code Nokia Siemens presents on its web site, or maybe this is Nokia’s idea about “making a positive impact on the society.”

From the business point of view, timing of this deal was perfect for Nokia since present situation in Iran provides an ideal environment for testing and marketing this kind of product. If it manages to limit communication among the opposition and efficiently restrict information reaching outside world, it will be easier to market to other fascist regimes around the world.

Next time you are buying a mobile phone remember that Nokia helps to disconnect people for good.
