The USPSTF released a body of findings that included the suggestion

that women under 50 without indications of risk for cancer should not consider a mammogram nor should they perform breast self exams. They also indicate that insisting on these practices creates a higher incidence of false positives and raises unnecessary anxiety

Over the last eighteen months any and every parent has experienced a higher level of anxiety whenever a child exhibits signs of a cold. The H1N1 virus or swine flu has hit America hard and it doesn't appear to be going away any time soon.

FDA approval for the swine flu vaccine was announced Tuesday September 15th in Washington D.C. An estimated 45 million H1N1 vaccines are expected to become available around October 15th. New shipments will follow each week thereafter.

Consult your local health department for information on the swine flu vaccine. Talk with your doctor to learn whether or not you qualify as an at-risk case. As with any vaccine, the swine flu has been known to have adverse effects. Protecting yourself protects your children, and protecting your children protects you. Get informed, stay alert, and take all possible precautions.

Coming out to your kids

Our children may surprise us. They are growing up in a far smaller world than we did. Their world includes MySpace, cable radio, and satellite TV, iPods, cell phones and Jerry Springer. They are the generation of 90210 and Dawson's Creek. Sex is not foreign to them. Nor is homosexuality.

Don't let outside influences color your approach. This is a conversation you owe to your child and yourself. Coming out to them is more important that coming out to your own parents. If we hide our orientation too long, if we make them have to ask us, they can see this as a lack of trust. If our children beleive we don't trust them, they won't trust us. And if they share your orientation, or have questions about it, they wont ask you. They'll get their informtaion from their friends, the internet, or less empathetic and less accurate sources.

The Rhythm Method: When Vs How

It is a known fact that the moment a woman mentions wanting a child, dozens of bits of advice and suggestions come flying at her, whether she wants them or not. Many of these tidbits are based on old wives tales.

The question, of course is, "How can I get pregnant?" One would think that this would be a no-brainer, especially if the woman in question has a man (or more) in her life.

Tennis Elbow Isn't Just for Tennis

In 2007, my ongoing battle with carpal tunnel syndrome ended. I had carpal tunnel release surgery and in six weeks, I was back at work. Things were a bit slow to start, but now, 2 years later, there isn't even a scar!

The wrists are fantastic. But, the elbow... now that's another story.

I've had chronic pain in my right shoulder since 1997, when my car was rear-ended. So in November 2008, when I noticed a dull ache in my left elbow I didn't give this new twinge much thought. Until my left wrist started going numb on me. Then I started looking for my old wrist braces. I couldn't find them, though so I bought a simple little glove-brace thing. Nothing industrial or fancy (or expensive). It was designed to massage my wrist and palm, and for a little while, it helped.

What Goes Into Making Stained Glass Jewelry?

I love making stained glass jewelry. There is something about the process with its many many steps done in a certain order that I find comforting. I usually make a "batch" a setting. A "batch" usually consist of 20-30 pieces. I try to finish the batch in one day...but sometimes I break it into two days. I would love to share the steps with y'all.

it is a time consuming and very detailed process. In the future I will photograph the steps to maybe break it down for those of you who might want to know more.

When I told the obnoxious girl next to me to "shut the fuck up," I had no idea that she was both mentally handicapped and the principal's daughter.
