These bills, if passed, would provide safeguards to protect families from lending abuses. In my opinion, these bills will provide stability to the housing market in the United States, allowing the hysteria of the sub-prime mortgage crisis to abate. No one can change the past, but we can take measures to protect homeowners in the future.

The firing of the Chairman of Citigroup, Chuck Prince III, and Merrill Lynch, E. Stanley O'Neal, shows the severity of the sub-prime mortgage crises. Merrill Lynch was forced to have an $8.4 billion credit loss and Citibank a $15 billion credit loss. According to Bloomberg.com, nine of the world's biggest banks and brokerages have written down at least $40 billion of bad loans and securities tied to mortgages.

Tips for Eating Out With Kids

Few things are as intimidating to new parents as venturing out with a new baby. The dreaded first restaurant trip usually goes smoothly, as long as there is adequate space for the baby carrier and a well-timed nap. However, when kids outgrow the car seat and become mobile creatures, meals out take on a whole new experience!

Here are a few tips we’ve put into place to make dining out a more pleasurable experience for all involved (including fellow diners):

Stick to family friendly restaurants. It’s hard to apply a litmus test on family-friendliness from the parking lot, but generally speaking you should be able to tell whether the kids menu offers macaroni and cheese or es cargo. Hint, you can’t go wrong with anywhere that serves mac and cheese and chicken fingers!

A Brief History:

The Stetson Cavalry Hat

First worn during the Civil War, the current tradition of the Cavalry Hat (Cav Hat) is believed to have begun around 1964 among the new air cavalry squad 3/17 at Fort Benning, Georgia in order to create an element of esprit de corps. As units deployed to Vietnam, the custom began to spread to other Air Cavalry units.

By the end of Vietnam virtually all Air Cavalry units and some ground units had adopted the 'Cav Hat'. Stetson was the most common hat originally purchased by troopers and has thus become the defacto standard for the 'Cav Hat'.

The Stetson Cavalry Hat is not an issued item and is purchased by each individual trooper.

Over time many army units have created specific requirements regarding the proper manner to wear one's Cav hat. Examples of these requirements can be found on these pages:

Inmate Claims Shave, Haircut Violated Rights

An inmate, backed by members of his faith and the American Civil Liberties Union, claims some Duval County corrections officers violated his religious rights by forcing him to cut his hair.

A group of Sikhs protested in front of the jail Sunday, saying that forcing Jagmohan Ahuja to cut his hair while in jail is against his religion.

"It's completely against our religion to cut any hair on your body as it's an integral part of your body," said Jaspreet Singh of United Sikhs.

Members of the Sikh religion protested Sunday outside the jail.

"So please listen to our cries, our pleas. We won't stop here until laws are changed," Singh said.

Ahuja, 36, has been held since April 29 on three misdemeanor charges relating to violation of protective order and violation of probation. According to the jail Web site, he is not eligible for bond.

Aiming to inspire people to think globally about sustainable living, Arthus-Bertrand has been photographing unique views of our planet, seen from the sky, since 1994 - and has produced an exhibit of over 150 4-ft. by 6-ft. prints which will be on display in New York City at the World Financial Center Plaza and along the Battery Park City Esplanade from May 1, 2009 to June 28, 2009. Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops. Use rubbing alcohol on paper towel.

Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on. Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.

To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stovetop.

Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and leaves a lovely smell to the shine.

Ants, ants, ants everywhere. They are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march.

Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3 hours prior to burning.

Product Liability Guide

What is medical product liability law about? When a person is injured from drugs such as DES (diethylstilbestrol), medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers, medical implants, silicone breast implants, intrauterine contraceptive devices such as the Dalkon Shield, or diet pills such as Fen-Phen, they may have a claim to compensation for injuries caused by these products, including medical expenses, decrease of quality of life, and past and future pain and suffering. In other words, victims are entitled to compensation from a manufacturer, distributor, hospital, or doctor, because the products or procedures used in their treatment did not live up to reasonable consumer expectations, or was defective or unreasonably dangerous, either in design, manufacture, or promotional warning or labeling or did not comply with the standard of care or the state of the art.

How to tell if your child is gifted

our 2- to 4-year-old may be gifted if he:

Has a specific talent, such as artistic ability or an unusual facility for numbers. For example, children who draw unusually realistic pictures or who can manipulate numbers in their head may be gifted.

Reaches developmental milestones well ahead of peers.

Has advanced language development, such as an extensive vocabulary or the ability to speak in sentences much earlier than other children his age.

Is relentlessly curious and never seems to stop asking questions.

Is unusually active, though not hyperactive. While hyperactive children often have a short attention span, gifted children can concentrate on one task for long periods of time and are passionate about their interests.
