1. Edsel= Failure

The Ford Edsel has become a metaphor for commercial marketing failure. It was manufactured from 1958 til 1960. The failure of the Edsel brand is attributed to a combination of factors: an overhyped premiere, the perceived high price, an economic recession in 1957, ambiguous consumer targeting, the consumer shift toward smaller, fuel-efficient cars, and the perception of the car and its name as “ugly.”

2. Corvair=Unsafe

In 1965, a little-known consumer advocate named Ralph Nader published a book entitled Unsafe at Any Speed

3. Pinto=Volatile

The Ford Pinto had a tendency to explode. Forbes Magazine included it in their list of the Worst Cars of All Time

4. DeLorean=Overhyped

Only 3,000 of the strange-looking and expensive car sold the first year,

5. Yugo=Shoddy

the car sold very well until UN sanctions against Yugoslavia forced the end of the import program.

Knowing your money is going to a good cause can activate some of the same pleasure centers in your brain as food and sex, U.S. researchers said

People who participated in a study got a charge knowing that their money went to a charity -- even when the contribution was mandatory, like a tax. They felt even better when they voluntarily made a donation

In the study, Mayr and two economists gave 19 women volunteers $100 each and then tracked their brain activity in a functional magnetic resonance imaging scanner

When the money reached the food bank account, it activated portions of the brain -- the caudate nucleus and the nucleus accumbens -- known for pleasure

What is interesting is that these pleasure areas are for really basic needs, like food, sex, sweets, shelter and social connection," Ulrich said in a telephone interview. "It's the area that tells the brain what is good for us

That very same brain area not only tracks what is good for us, but what is good for others

Iron Age 'Mickey Mouse' Found

One thousand years before the cartoon character Mickey Mouse was even a glint in Walt Disney's eye, a French artist created a bronze brooch that looks remarkably like the famous rodent, according to archaeologists at Sweden's Lund Historical Museum, which houses the recent find.

The object, dated to 900 A..D., was excavated at a site called Uppåkra in southern Sweden.

Although made of bronze, the brooch ornament likely adorned the clothing of an Iron Age woman. Excavations at nearby sites, such as at Järrestad, have yielded other unusual pieces of jewelry, such as a necklace with a pail fob at the end and another necklace strung with 262 pieces of amber.

The bronze brooch may remind modern viewers of Mickey Mouse, but archaeologist Jerry Rosengren from Lund University told Discovery News that it actually represents a lion.

There would be 18 cars in the village.

63 villagers would have inadequate sanitation.

33 villagers would be Christians, 20 would be Muslims, 13 would be Hindus, 6 would be Buddhists, 2 would be atheists, 12 would be non-religious, and the remaining 14 would be members of other religions.

One villager would have AIDS, 26 villagers would smoke, and 14 villagers would be obese.

By the described nature of God, it is impossible to prove there is a God.

It is also impossible, for the same reason, to prove there is no God.

To believe in something without proof requires blind faith. Therefore both theism and atheism are ultimately about the gut instinct of the individual.

Why this simple piece of logic seems to escape most atheists, I don't understand.

I get why atheists don't feel the need for ritual, or why they resist organising themselves into a Church (although professional science is quickly becoming as bigoted on the subject as any church), I don't understand how people who support logical reasoning can not understand that they also have blind faith if they believe in something unprovable.

Is there a God? I haven't the slightest idea, and neither does anybody else if they think about it for long enough. That's the nature of the question. Anybody who calls it one way or the other is merely relying on gut instinct, with no evidence to support their position.

The official swimming facility of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, will span 7.8 acres, house five pools, and seat 17,000 spectators, yet it doesn’t contain a single steel cable, concrete column or structural beam. Instead its walls and ceilings are composed of a network of slender steel pipes linked together by 12,000 load-bearing nodes. These nodes evenly distribute the weight of the building, making it strong enough to withstand Beijing’s most severe earthquakes. A plastic Teflon-like foil—just eight one-thousandths of an inch thick—covers the entire structure like skin. It lets in more light and heat than glass does, helping to keep the pools warm and slashing energy costs by 30 percent.
