Adidas unveils Jabulani - the official ball for the 2010 World Cup

While the World Cup draw may be taking up a lot of the football headlines today, in related World Cup news, Adidas has uncovered the official match ball for 2010.

Adidas has been designing the official World Cup match ball since 1970, making this year's "Jabulani" the 11th ball it's produced.

As has been tradition in the World Cup ball, it is named according to the country hosting the competition, and Jabulani means "to celebrate" in the South African Bantu language of IsiZula.

Spiders to be taken home

An unusual colony of large spiders in the Yorkshire Dales is to be "sucked up the spout" and rehoused after taking up residence in a disused National Trust building earmarked for redevelopment.

Some cave spiders were unwittingly taken from Chapel Fell cave by Bradford University archaeologists 10 years ago.

Firework blaze in Russian nightclub kills 102

PERM, Russia (Reuters) - A blaze sparked by an indoor firework show ripped through a crowded Russian nightclub, killing at least 102 and injuring 134 as revellers stampeded for the exits, the Emergencies Ministry said.

The firework show went disastrously wrong at about 11:15 p.m. (2015 GMT) on Friday, filling the Lame Horse nightclub in the city of Perm, 1,150 km (720 miles) east of Moscow, with toxic smoke and sowing panic among clubbers.

Dubai shockwave hits global markets

Tremors from the shock request by Dubai's flagship government-owned holding company for a debt standstill spread through global equity markets yesterday, triggering heavy losses on Wall Street and a steep sell-off in Asia.

US markets, which were closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving, sold off heavily in a shortened trading session. The S&P 500 index closed 1.72 per cent down at 1,094.33.
