You hear or see questions all the time asking how much does the average car salesman earn or how many cars does the average car salesman sell. The average new or used car salesman doesn’t sell any cars or earn anything. There is no such thing as an average car salesman in the car business. I have seen car sales people earn less that $18,000 a year and others that earn a very nice six figure income. These same people may sell 3 or 4 cars a month while others may have sold 30 cars a month. Selling cars for a living is not a job that can be averaged out in order to make outsiders understand the car business because there is nothing average about a car sales career.

A large part of being a better car salesman is your mindset. The way you think makes a real difference when you have a car sales career. I have seen many car sales people loose a customer because they didn’t believe their customer was buying a car. Either they thought the customer had bad credit or they thought they were just kicking tires. The car salesman gave up in their mind which turns into outward expressions that the customer picks up and that turns them into a “be back”.

The most important part to being, having or creating success is to Think for Success. We are all busy, but in order to achieve success we need some time for success thinking. I am not talking about passing thoughts of success that come and go throughout the day as you run errands or do your job. I mean setting aside some time to be alone and uninterrupted so that you can think for success and your success mindset.

Many people have a certain routine they go through every morning and this routine will often set the tone for the day. Your routine can help or hinder the Success Mindset that you may be trying to develop. I talked to many people about their routines and I noticed that I have gotten into a routine of my own. When I get up in the morning I will get a cup of coffee and turn on the television to see what is going on in the world. I used to get my coffee and sit quietly, visualize success and maybe do a little writing for a post. But for some unknown reason I started turning on the television.

I hear it all the time, “I don’t have time”. Everybody is busy doing something, but no time for success. They might not say it that way, but that is the end result. They are too busy to take or make time for success. We all lead very hectic lives today which are made even busier by all of the modern conveniences we enjoy. Cell phones, email, Internet, television and text messaging all have an impact on our lives because we receive information so quickly. Information that impacts our lives, our thinking and our time, our time for success.

This presupposition states that every thing we do has a positive intention. If you have been selling cars for a living for any length of time you don’t need any car salesman tips to know that the happiest customers usually pay the most profit and the most difficult customers usually pay the least amount of profit. Strange how that works, isn’t that. The difference is the perspective of the car buyer. The customer that comes on the car lot and expects a good experience usually has a good experience, but the other side is also true. The customer that comes on the lot and expects a bad experience will usually get just what they expect. (this should be part of your car sales training)

Now as you go through your days, weeks and months and there are events in your daily life that concern money, you say or think to your self: I make $900.00 a week or $3600.00 a month. (an affirmation or beliefs) Then the car breaks down and needs repair: I only make $900.00 a week or $3600.00 a month. (another affirmation) Now you come home from work and open the mail. You got a notice that your property taxes were raised by $200.00 a year. What do you think or say; How am I supposed to afford this, I only make $900.00 a week or $3600.00 a month. Once again you have made a declaration and affirmation of your limited income. I can continue, but I think I made the point. I am sure you could come up with many more examples when you start thinking of an all too common occurrence and confirmation. Not exactly a positive attitude.

Sounds crazy, buy your limiting beliefs will determine your success. I am not talking about you religious beliefs. I am talking about your inner most, deepest and possibly very secret limiting beliefs. Everyone has a set of beliefs that runs their life. Like an operating system in a computer. These limiting beliefs have been learned and picked up from any number of sources throughout our lives. Some of these limiting beliefs could have been a part of you since childhood. Maybe a grandparent or some other special person in your life told you something that they thought would help you in your life and you have held on to that in the form of a limiting belief. You may have gotten limiting beliefs from parents, friends, relatives, employers, television, books or you created your own limiting beliefs.
