Corrie went to Gaza to oppose the actions of her government

she believed she had a special responsibility to defend Palestinians against US-built weapons, purchased with US aid to Israel

she believed that the Israeli military's incursions could be slowed by the presence of highly visible "internationals"

the belief that American lives are worth more than any others

and trying to use it to save a few Palestinian homes from demolition

Corrie stood in front of bulldozers, slept beside wells and escorted children to school

The face and head of this person was melted away by the new American weapons which Israel is using.

Leg injuries inflicted by new Israeli weapons. The flesh is apparently burnt and desintegrates into crumbles and liquids.

Israel had to defend themselves from her, so they did this.

This town is also notable for the Beit Hanoun November 2006 incident where 19 Palestinians were killed by IDF shelling.

Police break up anti-war meeting in Washington

Mounted police charged in to break up an outdoor press conference and demonstration against the Iraq war in Washington on Thursday, arresting three people, organizers and an AFP reporter said.

The charge caused a peaceful crowd of some 20 journalists and four or five protestors to scatter in terror, an AFP correspondent at the event in Lafayette Square said. No one appeared to have been hurt.

The cliché that people and nations learn from history is not only overused, but also overestimated; often we fail to learn from history, or draw the wrong conclusions.

1. Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism.

2. Disdain for the importance of human rights.

3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause.

4. The supremacy of the military/avid militarism.

5. Rampant sexism.

6. A controlled mass media.

8. Religion and ruling elite tied together.

9. Power of corporations protected.

10. Power of labor suppressed or eliminated.

11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts.

12. Obsession with crime and punishment.

14. Fraudulent elections.

Does any of this ring alarm bells? Of course not. After all, this is America, officially a democracy with the rule of law, a constitution, a free press, honest elections, and a well-informed public constantly being put on guard against evils.
