In the modern world, it seems as if it is becoming all too easy to settle into a routine that leads to a soul-deadening existence. We allow the cubicle culture to box in our spirit and you might agree that we let the norms and standards of society chain us to our desks in our attempt at keeping up.

We are, however, the masters of our own destiny. Some of the greatest leaders born to this world have proved that. Take Victor Frankl, for instance. During his time in Auschwitz he was perpetually dehumanized and stripped of all dignity and freedom. The day to day life for a concentration camp prisoner was little more than a forced effort to prepare for his own death and those of his fellow captives. And in the midst of this, he found his happiness in this:

Everything can be taken away from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedom — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.

Since the dawn of civilization, mankinds have strived to understand and increase the power of the mind. Geniuses like Mozart, Einstein and Da Vinci have amazed and baffled mankind. Are they simply blessed with divine talents or do they possess some secret knowledge?

The workings of the brain and how it processes information has always intrigued scientists and specialists. To gain an insight into that process, a group of specialists at a University in Japan invited the famous Japanese International Chess player Mr Yoshiharu Habu to conduct an interesting experiment.

Mr Habu's brainwave graph, on the contrary, showed that he had used his right brain most of the time before eventually switching to his left brain just before he made his move.

…. but for me, I would just take a glance focusing on the centre of the board, and all the possible moves would just materialize in my head where I plan my advances…. the accuracy is almost 100%.

The Clean Up

Our latest TV ad - featuring massive paint explosions - took 10 days and 250 people to film. Huge quantities of paint were needed to accomplish this, which had to be delivered in 1 tonne trucks and mixed on-site by 20 people.

The effect was stunning, but afterwards a major clean-up operation was required to clear away all that paint!

The cleaning took 5 days and 60 people. Thankfully, the use of a special water-based paint made it easy to scrape-up once the water had evaporated.

Keeping everyone safe was also an important factor. A special kind of non-toxic paint was used that is safe enough to drink (it contains the same thickeners that are sometimes used in soups). It was also completely harmless to the skin.

Eye-Tracking Device Lets Billboards Know When You Look at Them

Billboards that know when you're looking at them will soon be a reality, if new eye-tracking gear from a Canadian startup makes good on its maker's claims.

The eyebox2 from xuuk is a palm-size video camera surrounded by infrared light-emitting diodes. It can record eye contact with 15-degree accuracy at a distance of up to 33 feet. A simple glance from a passerby scores an impression, providing a tally that enables new Google-like measurement metrics that real-world advertisers could only dream about until recently.

As Matt Davis of the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit at Cambridge University says, “There are elements of truth in this, but also some things which scientists studying the psychology of language know to be incorrect.” He’s unaware of any research at Cambridge that suggests otherwise.

Taliban blamed for 'deadly phone virus' rumour

Afghan authorities on Monday blamed Taliban militants for spreading a rumour that a deadly virus is being transmitted via mobile telephones.

The rumour, which raced like wildfire late Sunday among the country's estimated two million cellphone users, said that anyone answering calls from certain numbers or codes would contract a fatal disease.

"There are some numbers which contain the virus. As soon as you answer your phone blood comes out of your mouth, nose and ears and you die," said Kabul resident Mohammad Akter, who said he was told about the virus by a friend.

With more than 70 percent of Afghanistan's people receiving little or no education, rumours and superstitions have been used previously as political and military tools.

State media quoted the head of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority as saying on Saturday that it was "scientifically and technically" not possible to transmit a virus to humans from a mobile.
