She said "This cheeky chap was snapped at around midnight on 5th December 2009 at Walthamstow Central tube station in London. As I got of my train I'd seen him dashing down the escalator, and when the workmen shoo-ed him back up again he sat near the top for the moment - enabling me to grab these two pics."

Mum's the word on Viagra

In yesterday's Senate debate on abortion rights, Barbara Boxer hit the nail on the head when she said this:

The men who have brought us this do not single out a procedure that is used by a man, or a drug that is used by a man, that involves his reproductive health care and say they have to get a special rider. There is nothing in this amendment that says if a man someday wants to buy Viagra, for example, that his pharmaceutical coverage cannot cover it; that he has to buy a rider. I would not support that. And they should not support going after a woman, using her own private funds, for her reproductive health care.

Radioactive waste hidden in oil and gas production

According to by German public broadcaster WDR, the oil and gas industry has kept secret the dangerous amounts of radioactive waste produced. But experts like Harald Thielen of the Society for System and Reactor Safety acknowledge that the problem exists.

The WDR report says that in Germany alone, up to 2,000 metric tons of naturally-occurring radioactive waste is sucked out of the earth every year and dumped in the surrounding countryside. By extrapolating these figures to oil production in the United States, which produces much more oil and has lower industry safety standards, up to 260,000 metric tons of radioactive waste could be produced there.

We are now two months into the global H1N1 pandemic vaccination effort and one thing is abundantly clear; the dire warnings of the anti-vaccine crowd that `the vaccine is deadlier than the virus’ have not come to pass.

Somewhere between 100 million and 200 hundred million people worldwide have now received the shot, and the number of reported adverse effects has been about what we expect with the seasonal jab.

The vast majority of adverse affects reported have been mild. The CDC is investigating roughly 204 serious post vaccination reports (out of 46 million injections).

Strategic Arms Reduction Treaties (START)

After eight rounds of talks over nine months, U.S. and Russian negotiators are expected to complete work this month on a new strategic nuclear arms reduction deal that would replace the highly successful 1991 START, which expires Dec. 5.

Lower, verifiable limits on still-bloated U.S. and Russian strategic nuclear arsenals are long overdue. Today, the United States and Russia each deploy more than 2,000 strategic warheads, most of which exist only to deter a massive nuclear attack by the other. Fair Sentencing Act Equalizing Crack and Powder Cocaine

clipper's remarks: Crack users were being sentenced to more prison time for quantities that did not trigger the same sentence if the person arrested had powder cocaine. A hearing is scheduled today on the bill. Short answer don't do coke in any form but at least if this bill passes a lower economic crack user will get similar treatment under as a user of more expensive powder.

Fair Sentencing Act of 2009 - Amends the Controlled Substances Act and the Controlled Substances Import and Export Act to: (1) increase the amount of a controlled substance or mixture containing a cocaine base (i.e., crack cocaine) required for the imposition of mandatory minimum prison terms for crack cocaine trafficking to eliminate the sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine; (2) increase monetary penalties for drug trafficking and for the importation and exportation of controlled substances. Eliminates the five-year mandatory minimum prison term for first-time possession of crack cocaine.

His strategy is based on the idea of Tribal Engagement Teams, working as part of an overall strategy that allows these teams working closely with a tribal group to decide how to engage the enemy. As Gant says: "TETs must be allowed to be on their own, grow beards, wear local garb, and interact with the tribesmen at all levels. They must be allowed to be what they are: American tribesmen...Rules of Engagement must change.

1. GMO enables humans to rapidly alter an eco-system by introducing a new plant, insect, microbe, or animal population in large scales. When nature - the large system - senses over-population within any sub-system, it assumes something is wrong; out of balance. That triggers a reaction to restore balance, most often with what we call a disease, unintended consequence, or predator that acts to restore the balance. Humans make believe we are smarter than nature and can always "outsmart" nature.
2. GMO is dramatically different from traditional means of creating hybrids. Traditional creation of new hybrids takes enough time to see if unintended negative consequences were missed and enough time for the natural system to not over-react to a perceived imbalance.

Great spot by CdL Creative going through Canary Wharf London Underground station. He said "The guy sitting opposite me on the tube was wearing a suit.

Except...

The trousers were completely inside out. Either he was totally oblivious to this or it was some sort of Masonic ritual."

The mind boggles. Even if you're in a massive rush, you'd have to struggle somewhat to put your trousers on inside out.
