"Fair and balanced" if one equates reading lies off a teleprompter as 'informative and equitable' ... Who loves lies? Who cherishes lies? Who finds lies comforting & pleasing? Who is the father of lies anyway? So who do liars serve?
And what about those who serve up or devour lies, thereby supporting, spreading deciets like a virus [meme]... in the traffic of lies, does it matter if one originates the deception? If they promulgate false witness, support harm of those who have been falsely accused, is that not complicity? And how can one serve God, objectively, if they love lies, spread lies, support liars... ??? I think those who play with themselves and others are unwitting dupes who decieve themselves BEFORE they decieve anyone else. Just my opinion. And they serve evil, just like every liar before them.

Personally I cannot stand lies. Or liars. MSM or otherwise.

Joe Biden thought that John McCain would be perfectly qualified to be Veep on the Democratic ticket in 2004, and thus fit to serve as President if something should happen to John Kerry, his party's nominee.

But, "oddly enough," all that remains of the footnote relating to McCain is a headlined article at MSNBC with no text:

clipper's remarks: Another take on the whole cellphones are killing the bees story that is buzzing around the net, today (hey, even Dizzy posted about it). I am posting this in the interest of introducing another perspective on the issue. The author is a scientist who says "wait a minute...not so fast...weigh ALL the evidence first, all is not as it would seem..."

Hey, I can buy that...and, at the same time (like on the whole global warming issue), I can research the issues and come to my own conclusion--not one fed to me by the MSM...

Recent concern about apparent die-offs in bees apparently has now led to speculation that cellphone radiation is the cause for bee disappearance. Instapundit has weighed in, questioning with well deserved skepticism the validity of this claim.

Because I am a scientist, I do not try to establish validity of such reports via Google, but via Web of Science, the search engine that encompasses academic literature, both peer-reviewed and not. As far as I am concerned, until data have been published in peer-reviewed literature, any fantastic "scientific" claims are just clamors for attention.

The mere fact that the U.S.D.A. has labs of bee scientists confirms that domesticated honey bees are indeed important to the pollination of crops in the U.S. But as I pointed out in my last post on the topic, they are by no means the only species of pollinator out there. So don't expect any food shortage panics anytime soon.

Has anyone noticed how very, very little pictures or footage we see of American or coalition forces actually doing what Americans like to see them doing-- killing Taliban and Al Qaeda?

Why is that, do you think?

Are there no media in either theater who are interested in being choppered to major engagements to report and take pictures? You know, stuff journalists are supposed to do?

The net effect is a decrease in morale. We see every torn body of every child killed by Iraqi terror-bombs, meticulously and lovingly documented by the media, but barely a single terrorist coming to a bad end. We see US soldiers killed by terrorists -- the terrorists sometimes bring cameras -- and that's shown on CNN.

But showing terrorists blasted to hell would be, what, pandering? Jingoistic? In bad taste?

This is balance?

I don't want to knock USAToday too much for an editorial I agree with, but it is ironic that USAToday is bashing Obama for not admitting the surge worked, when, as far as I know, this is the very first time USAToday admitted it themselves.

Why then can't Obama bring himself to acknowledge the surge worked better than he and other skeptics, including this page, thought it would? What does that stubbornness say about the kind of president he'd be?

The great irony, of course, is that the success of the surge has made Obama's plan to withdraw combat troops in 16 months far more plausible than when he proposed it. Another irony is that while Obama downplays the effectiveness of the surge in Iraq, he is urging a similar tactic now in Afghanistan.

Perhaps it's too much to ask that Obama risk being taunted by headlines such as "Obama says Bush was right." But for the nation to move forward on its single most vexing debate, it would help if the next president could admit the obvious

Striking a Unilateral, Preemptive Blow Against the Future

In today's Los Angeles Times, columnist Max Boot looks at how history will regard the war in Iraq, and who will be blamed for things going so spectacularly wrong. Boot writes that:

If we wind up losing the war in Iraq, as now appears likely (though not inevitable), many conservatives know who to blame: the press, or, in blogger-speak, the MSM (mainstream news media). Just as it did during the Vietnam War, a myth is likely to develop in which America's valiant fighting men and women were stabbed in the back by unpatriotic, even treasonous, reporters.

Boot goes on to say that blaming the press for Iraq would be just as disingenuous and dishonest as blaming the press for the failure in Vietnam, and offers the surprising observation (surprising, at least, coming from an ardent war supporter) that, "if you wanted to figure out what was happening over the last four years, you would have been infinitely better off paying attention to [journalists] than to what the president or his top generals were saying."

New Seven Dirty Words that must be avoided when engaging in proper dialogue in the 21st century.

1. Wrong. As in, “You are wrong.” This is a narrow, judgmental, bigoted swipe at people who have their own equally-valid definitions of morality (or choose not to have any morality at all).

2. Patriotism. As in, “I disagree with your policies,” which of course to a Democrat or the MSM means, “I question your patriotism.”

3. Jesus Christ. Or, the more generic term God.

4. Human Being. As in, it’s not a “choice” or an “undifferentiated tissue mass.” It’s a “human being.”

5. Win. As in, “We need to win the war before we withdraw our troops.”

6. Proof. As in, “exactly what proof do you have that man is responsible for global warming?”

7. Hussein. As in, “Barack Hussein Obama.” Sure it’s his middle name. And sure you could ridicule “George Herbert Walker Bush” as an out of touch politician with a patrician-sounding name

A former on-air commentator and senior producer at MSNBC, Cohen was assigned to Phil Donohue’s show before it was canceled in February 2003. He says he obtained a memo criticizing Donohue for seeming to delight in presenting guests who were anti-war, anti-Bush and skeptical of the administration’s motives.

“It’s because we practiced journalism and had opposing views that were terminated,” Cohen said.

After the show’s cancellation, Cohen said MSNBC issued ordered that every anti-war guest needed to be countered by two pro-war guests.

“That was their quota system to shift the debate for pro-invasion forces,” according to Cohen, who has a book out called “Cable News Confidential: My Misadventures in Corporate Media.”

Where does he get his news? Cohen said his home page opens to www.commondreams.org, which bills itself as a news center for the “progressive community.”

USA Today is a misrepresentation of reality.

Today the Washington Post reported the compelling story of an ever growing ”Dead Zone” in the Gulf of Mexico; however, only something akin to journalistic malpractice could have kept them from reporting all the facts. Those facts put environmentalists and over-zealous DC regulators squarely in the middle of a widening blight of “dead” water in the gulf off of America’s southern coast.

He said a major factor is intensified corn production, which relies heavily on fertilizer.

Just like so many reports before it, a joint survey by the Project for Excellence in Journalism and Harvard's Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy — hardly a bastion of conservative orthodoxy — found that in covering the current presidential race, the media are sympathetic to Democrats and hostile to Republicans.

Democrats are not only favored in the tone of the coverage. They get more coverage period. This is particularly evident on morning news shows, which "produced almost twice as many stories (51% to 27%) focused on Democratic candidates than on Republicans."

The most flagrant bias, however, was found in newspapers. In reviewing front-page coverage in 11 newspapers, the study found the tone positive in nearly six times as many stories about Democrats as it was negative.

The media, of course, insist they are careful to keep personal opinions out of their coverage. But the facts tell another story — one that can't be edited or spiked.
