we don't know if the differences between AP-CfK's Sept. 5-10 and Sept. 27-30 results were created deliberately, but the results sure look suspicious

The more recent poll shows Obama with a 7-point lead among likely voters, both with and without leaners; the earlier poll showed McCain with a 5-point lead with leaners, and 4 points without.

Almost all of this 12-point swing (11 points with leaners) is more than likely almost completely due to major differences between the two polls' samples:

"Somehow," the sample make-up changed from 33-31 Democrat to 40-29 Democrat from the earlier to the latter poll -- a shift of nine points.

After correcting for differences in the samples, almost all of Obama's double-digit pickup disappears, leaving McCain with four- and three-point leads without and with leaners, respectively.

Either AP isn't supervising its GfK cooks properly, or it's directing them to poison discussions of presidential race

Ohio Secretary of State Democrat Jennifer Brunner is behind a new rule in the state that allows Ohio citizens to register and vote on the same day.
That law went into effect today.

Jennifer Brunner has also directed county boards of elections to deny absentee ballots to thousands of qualified Ohio electors who support Senator John McCain who fail to check a box that was not mandated by Ohio law.

Later today The Next Right reported that Brunner is banning observers from polling stations!

The Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner argues that they are merely "casting their ballot" rather than "voting" so the fact that Ohio statute requires 30 days between registering and voting would not interfere.

Normally in an election, partisan election monitors are allowed into polling places

Brunner also issued an advisory opinion to counties saying that they are not required to allow election monitors.

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats

''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank

'The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''

Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.

''I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,'' Mr. Watt said.

"We"?

Two possibilities:

1) John Roberts is asking what he, as a Democrat, must do to win.

2) John Roberts is actually just soliciting the media's marching orders from the DNC right on television now, without the discretion and pretense of doing it via email or at a bar.

Most likely possibility? Both, of course.

Democrat convention bounce....for McCain

The Democratic National Convention has begun and the poll numbers are bouncing, but not in the direction that most people anticipated.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows Barack Obama attracting 44% of the vote while John McCain also earns 44%. When "leaners" are included, it’s still tied with Obama at 46% and McCain at 46%. Yesterday, with leaners, Obama had a three-point advantage over McCain

Obama is supported by 78% of Democrats while McCain gets the vote from 85% of Republicans. The GOP hopeful also has a slight advantage among unaffiliated voters.

Today’s results are the first based entirely upon interviews conducted since Joe Biden was named to be Obama’s running mate.

Obama’s support has declined in each of the last three individual nights of polling.

McCain is viewed favorably by 57% of the nation’s voters, Obama by 53% (see trends). Clinton is viewed favorably by 47%.

47% of dem women wanted Hillary as VP

Nearly half of Democratic women (47%) say Barack Obama should have chosen Hillary Clinton for his running mate instead of Senator Joseph Biden as the former First Lady prepares to speak tonight at the Democratic National Convention. Thirty-nine percent (39%) disagree.

Only 35% of Democratic men believe Hillary should be on the ticket

Interestingly, younger voters prefer Clinton on the ticket.

While Democrats overall by a 61% to 33% margin give Obama the nod over Clinton as the candidate best able to beat McCain, unaffiliated voters, perhaps the key bloc at play in this election cycle, prefer Clinton 48% to 33%.

Clinton continues to get high marks for her conduct since quitting the race for the nomination on June 7, despite a great deal of reported behind-the-scenes intrigue over her speech at the convention and putting her name in nomination. Sixty percent (60%) of voters rate her conduct good or excellent, while only 10% characterize it as poor.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama's solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll.

McCain now has a 9-point edge, 49 percent to 40 percent, over Obama on the critical question of who would be the best manager of the economy -- an issue nearly half of voters said was their top concern in the November 4 presidential election.

That margin reversed Obama's 4-point edge last month on the economy over McCain, an Arizona senator and former Vietnam prisoner of war who has admitted a lack of economic expertise and shows far greater interest in foreign and military policy.

According to the latest U.S. Census data, in little more than a generation minorities will become the majority, thus enabling White Americans to ‘get on the receiving end’ of government cash, jobs and other benefits which they can’t get now because of their unfortunate racial status.

Good jobs without full qualification, contractor set-asides on government projects, easier access to college, and more personal attention from Democrat candidates are among the special favors that Whites can expect to receive starting in the year 2042, experts said.

However, being in the minority may also have its pitfalls.

On October 15, 2007, antiwar Democrat Barack Obama wrote the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to demand that the head of Blackwater, Erik Prince, testify before Congress.

Obama accused the Blackwater guards of damaging the United State's reputation by killing 17 Iraqi civilians:

It was later discovered that at least three of those 17 Iraqis killed were legitimate insurgent targets.

On November 14, 2007, Barack Obama called for the Pentagon to reconsider awarding any new contracts to Blackwater USA.

But, look who got the gig protecting the antiwar candidate...

This past week in Iraq and Afghanistan, Blackwater employees protected Barack Obama:

Sen. Barack Obama has not been a fan of private police like Blackwater in war zones, and some news outlets even reported that they were spurned for his trip last week to Afghanistan and Iraq. But Whispers confirms that Blackwater did handle the Democratic presidential candidate's security in Afghanistan and helped out in Iraq.

Sen Obama should drop out of the race. Having just seen the new attack ad that the GOP is showing in NC — condemning the state’s Democratic leadership for backing Obama, replete with Rev Wright cursing America — it is clear that Senator Obama is detrimental to the Democratic brand nationwide. As Jerome Armstrong wrote nearly one month ago, “That’s fall-out from Wright, not against just Obama, but also Clinton, and most likely against the Democratic Party in general. It’s branding of Democrats Obama, and Clinton, as anti-American.”

Obama earned his lead early on, prior to being vetted. After he lost Texas and Ohio, the Wright videos appeared, shocking the nation. Slowly, information about his relationship to Rezko, and his affiliation with William Ayers have also entered the mainstream.

He should quit while he’s ahead, so to speak, and give the Party a chance to win the General Election.

The idea that reporters are trying to help Obama win in November has grown by five percentage points over the past month. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey, taken just before the new controversy involving the New York Times erupted, found that 49% of voters believe most reporters will try to help the Democrat with their coverage, up from 44% a month ago.

Just 14% believe most reporters will try to help McCain win, little changed from 13% a month ago. Just one voter in four (24%) believes that most reporters will try to offer unbiased coverage.

for unaffiliated voters, 50% see a pro-Obama bias

45% say that most reporters would hide information if it hurt the candidate they wanted to win

The New York Times’ refusal to run an op-ed piece by John McCain challenging an article in the paper less than a week ago by Barack Obama is sure to further fuel the belief that much of the major media is biased in favor of the Democratic candidate

The state party is asking the Democratic National Committee to unseat Debra Bartoshevich, an emergency room nurse from Racine County who was locally elected in May to be a delegate for Hillary Rodham Clinton at the party’s national convention in Denver in August.

“I still very much want to be a delegate for Hillary,” Bartoshevich said Wednesday night. “I still support Hillary Clinton as the nominee. I hope to still go (to Denver). All I can do is sit and wait.”

Bartoshevich made public her support for McCain over Democrat Barack Obama in an interview with the Journal Sentinel this month. Bartoshevich said that she felt the nominating process had been unfair to Clinton and that Obama was inexperienced and risky.

I’ve seen some discussion around the blogosphere that has correlated with an email I got this morning from the office of Representative John Culberson (the US House GOP leader) talking about a Democrat plan hatched to curtail free speech from members of Congress on the Internet’s various social media websites.

As Robert Scoble and Andrew Feinberg unmasked to us in the Web 2.0 crowd, there are a couple of members of congress who actually do get social media, and use it personally. John Culberson is one of those folks, and has actively used Twitter and Qik in the past to communicate not only with his constiuency but the general wilds of the web.

Rep. Michael Capuano, Chairman of the Congressional Commission on Mailing Standards, seeks to end this.

The upshot is that Michael Capuano for some reason is uneasy or afraid of the shift towards openness in access to our nations legislators made possible by social media, and rather than encourage the change, he aims to have it cut off at the head.

A leading democrat says Americans need to get used to paying $5 to $6 a gallon for their gas.

Impeached judge and leading Democrat Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Miramar) confessed this week that democrats have no answers to the skyrocketing gas prices.

I predict to you that gas prices will be as much as $5 before the end of this year and they will go to $6 at some point next year

"When they go to $6 it will fluctuate between $5 and $6 and more for some time to come. That's the harsh reality no matter what law we pass," he said.

"There ain't no answer, OK? ... All the talk is feel good talk."

LTC Allen West, the Republican candidate for Florida's 22nd Congressional District, offered this response:

There can be no doubt as to why this Congress under the presumed leadership of Speaker Pelosi is a collection of whining losers, and we as the American people should not have to suffer for their lack of courage, competence, and character.
