47% of dem women wanted Hillary as VP

Nearly half of Democratic women (47%) say Barack Obama should have chosen Hillary Clinton for his running mate instead of Senator Joseph Biden as the former First Lady prepares to speak tonight at the Democratic National Convention. Thirty-nine percent (39%) disagree.

Only 35% of Democratic men believe Hillary should be on the ticket

Interestingly, younger voters prefer Clinton on the ticket.

While Democrats overall by a 61% to 33% margin give Obama the nod over Clinton as the candidate best able to beat McCain, unaffiliated voters, perhaps the key bloc at play in this election cycle, prefer Clinton 48% to 33%.

Clinton continues to get high marks for her conduct since quitting the race for the nomination on June 7, despite a great deal of reported behind-the-scenes intrigue over her speech at the convention and putting her name in nomination. Sixty percent (60%) of voters rate her conduct good or excellent, while only 10% characterize it as poor.

A leading democrat says Americans need to get used to paying $5 to $6 a gallon for their gas.

Impeached judge and leading Democrat Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Miramar) confessed this week that democrats have no answers to the skyrocketing gas prices.

I predict to you that gas prices will be as much as $5 before the end of this year and they will go to $6 at some point next year

"When they go to $6 it will fluctuate between $5 and $6 and more for some time to come. That's the harsh reality no matter what law we pass," he said.

"There ain't no answer, OK? ... All the talk is feel good talk."

LTC Allen West, the Republican candidate for Florida's 22nd Congressional District, offered this response:

There can be no doubt as to why this Congress under the presumed leadership of Speaker Pelosi is a collection of whining losers, and we as the American people should not have to suffer for their lack of courage, competence, and character.

Great post from Jeff Emmanuel. This is the same Democrat Rep who recently admitted Democrats had "stretched the facts" about the feasibility and prudence of a quick withdrawal from Iraq, just to win the election.

Now he makes this curious claim:

Senator Chuck Schumer claims that coercing Saudi Arabia to increase oil production by 1 million barrels a day would drop the per barrel price by $25, saving Americans 62 cent per gallon at the gas pump. Yet, somehow, that same amount of oil coming from Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would only ease oil prices by a penny.

on May 13^th, the New York Democrat insisted that

"If Saudi Arabia were to increase its production by 1 million barrels per day that translates to a reduction of 20 percent to 25 percent in the world price of crude oil, and crude oil prices could fall by more than $25 dollar per barrel from its current level of $126 per barrel. In turn, that would lower the price of gasoline between 13 percent and 17 percent, or by more than 62 cents off the expected summer regular-grade price - offering much needed relief to struggling families. "

the exact amount he argued earlier this month would only "reduce the price of oil by a penny" were it coming from ANWR

estimates that seating of the entire delegations from the two disputed states will give her a pledged delegate lead of around 55 delegates

Clinton controls the Rules and Bylaws Committee with at least 50% of its members supporting her

Obama supporters won’t take this lying down, of course. They could protest the decision to the Credentials Committee of the Democratic National Convention

One hundred sixty-one of the committee’s 186(!) members are allotted to each campaign in a ratio equal to the performance in each state contest

May 5, 2008 — An InsiderAdvantage / Majority Opinion Survey conducted for the Southern Political Report shows the Democratic Primary in North Carolina tightening. The results:

Obama: 48%

Clinton: 45%

Undecided: 7%

The telephone survey was conducted Sunday May 4 of 781 registered likely voters in the Tuesday Democratic primary. It was weighted for age, race, and gender, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.

Clinton has increased her lead among white voters to 58% - very close to the 60% plus level needed to pull off a victory. She now leads among those who say they are Democrats but has started to trail among Unaffiliated voters, who are allowed to participate in Tuesday’s election. Additionally, African-American voters are not quite as solid with Obama as they have been, at least based on previous exit polls.

Our poll is based on a turnout model of 35% African-American vote. Anything under that number could give Clinton a shocking upset.

Sen Obama should drop out of the race. Having just seen the new attack ad that the GOP is showing in NC — condemning the state’s Democratic leadership for backing Obama, replete with Rev Wright cursing America — it is clear that Senator Obama is detrimental to the Democratic brand nationwide. As Jerome Armstrong wrote nearly one month ago, “That’s fall-out from Wright, not against just Obama, but also Clinton, and most likely against the Democratic Party in general. It’s branding of Democrats Obama, and Clinton, as anti-American.”

Obama earned his lead early on, prior to being vetted. After he lost Texas and Ohio, the Wright videos appeared, shocking the nation. Slowly, information about his relationship to Rezko, and his affiliation with William Ayers have also entered the mainstream.

He should quit while he’s ahead, so to speak, and give the Party a chance to win the General Election.

But hey: he won Idaho and Wyoming, right?

(2008-04-19) — ABC News today issued an apology to the Democrat party and progressive pundits, on behalf of journalists George Stephanopolous and Charles Gibson, for allowing this week’s Democrat presidential debate to descend into ‘tangential character issues‘ like honesty, integrity and personal association with terrorists and racists.

To atone for this ‘gross disservice‘, ABC News said it would set aside up to three full minutes in prime time on the eve of Tuesday’s presidential primary in Pennsylvania to allow Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama “to fully debate their substantive policy differences.”

As a further demonstration of its commitment to serious coverage of the issues that divide the Democrat rivals, the network said it would air the policy debate with “limited commercial interruption.”

Here is what Pogemiller said in response to questions about a tax hike in Minnesota:

"I think it is simplistic and naive to say that people can spend their money better than government... The notion that everybody can individually spend their money better than government, I just think is trite wrong-headed and anti-democratic."

Oops! Pogemiller probably has no idea that what he just said is extremely offensive to Americans who work hard for their money just to see government take it and build a bridge to nowhere.

clipper's remarks: The Obama supporters have been up in arms about the Clinton plan to try and win the primary by picking up more of the super delegates at the convention. They say doing so is thwarting the will of the people by trying to use back room politics to win the nomination. Yet this is exactly what the Obama camp is celebrating right now. Their candidate will likely win more delegates in Texas even though Clinton won the popular vote. This clearly shows that caucuses don't always reflect the will of the people. So without counting Michigan and Florida, and with Obama wining many if not all of the caucuses, who is to say what the will of the people is?

Is Hillary right or wrong for taking this primary all the way to the convention? I don't know (and don't care for that matter), but I do know that she would have no more stolen the nomination if she does pull of the win than Obama will have stolen it if he wins.

Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign says that based on results from some 280 regional conventions in Texas on Saturday, he overtook Sen. Hillary Clinton in delegates. Punch line: She may have won the popular vote in the March 4 primary, but he substantially outperformed her at primary-night precinct caucuses that fed into the regional conventions.

With more than 56 percent of the results tallied from today’s 284 Democratic district conventions across Texas, Sen. Barack Obama currently is projected to earn a 38-29 pledged delegate win in the Texas caucuses, exactly as projected on the day after the March 4th precinct caucuses. The nine delegate margin in the caucuses means Obama will gain a net margin of five pledged delegates from Texas because Senator Clinton narrowly won the Texas primary by only four delegates, 65-61.

TROY -- The co-founder and former CEO of the liberal-progressive Democracy Radio and husband of U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow was caught in February by a Troy police sting aimed at catching prostitutes, according to a police report.

Athans paid a 20-year-old prostitute $150 for sex in a Troy hotel but was not arrested

The police report said officers observed Athans enter a room under surveillance and leave 15 minutes later.

Officers entered the room and found sex toys, condoms, $431 in cash and a laptop computer. They arrested the woman, identified as Alycia Lorraine Martin, and charged her with prostitution.

Athans was executive vice president of Air America, which filed for bankruptcy in 2006. He was also on staff in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives.

During his first run for elected office, Barack Obama played a greater role than his aides now acknowledge in crafting liberal stands on gun control, the death penalty and abortion– positions that appear at odds with the more moderate image he’s projected during his presidential campaign.

Late last year, in response to a Politico story about Obama’s answers to the original questionnaire, his aides said he “never saw or approved” the questionnaire.

They asserted the responses were filled out by a campaign aide who “unintentionally mischaracterize(d) his position.”

But a Politico examination determined that Obama was actually interviewed about the issues on the questionnaire by the liberal Chicago non-profit group that issued it. And it found that Obama – the day after sitting for the interview – filed an amended version of the questionnaire, which appears to contain Obama’s own handwritten notes adding to one answer.
