"Mice with diabetes suddenly didn't have diabetes any more."

"I've never seen anything like it," said Dr. Hans Michael Dosch, an immunologist at the hospital and a leader of the studies. "In my career, this is unique."

Dr. Dosch had concluded in a 1999 paper that there were surprising similarities between diabetes and multiple sclerosis, a central nervous system disease. His interest was also piqued by the presence around the insulin-producing islets of an "enormous" number of nerves, pain neurons primarily used to signal the brain that tissue has been damaged.

Suspecting a link between the nerves and diabetes, he and Dr. Salter used an old experimental trick -- injecting capsaicin, the active ingredient in hot chili peppers, to kill the pancreatic sensory nerves in mice that had an equivalent of Type 1 diabetes.

Tags: diabetes, health, science

<clipSource>http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=a042812e-492c-4f07-8245-8a598ab5d1bf&k=63970</clipSource>

The 9 Most Annoying Conversations You’ll Be Having On Thanksgiving

clipped by: reimers

Clip Source: www.comedy.com

It’s time for Thanksgiving everybody. In all honesty, we no longer feel that the processes of our site are producing a unique, high quality blend of content. Instead, the magical blending of diverse topics on the Clipmarks home page has seemed to dissolve into a battleground for extremely hostile politically oriented users who are overwhelming the rest of the site. Because of this we are working on making some fundamental changes to the way the Clipmarks site works. We will do our best to make changes that improve the site and will continue to iterate until we are comfortable that it is just right.

Tags: clipmarks

<clipSource>http://clipmarks.wordpress.com/2008/09/04/shaking-things-up-on-clipmarkscom/</clipSource>

Free dinner for Vets

clipped by: n2sooners
clipper's remarks: Just a tip to all you vets, free dinner tonight.

Clip Source: www.goldencorral.com

Military Appreciation Monday

November 12, 2007

For the past 6 years, Golden Corral has been honoring the US Military with a free “thank you” dinner and beverage at any Golden Corral restaurant on Military Appreciation Monday (first Monday after Veteran’s Day). Many of know (or maybe not) that you can 'block' comments by other clip users on your clipmarks. While this may be a tool, it appears it only supports those who would mis-use it. Anyone with an opposing opinion can be silenced if the clipper doesnt want others to see anyones comments but those they agree with. I'm ashamed of Clipmarks for allowing this 'tool' to be so easily misused, without any administrative or moderator based decision. So much for the open exchange of free thought and viewpoints.

Clip Source: www.clipmarks.com

User Management

We are passionate about maintaining a positive, civil environment at Clipmarks. Then she posted them on her Web site, adding some grotesque retouching and slogans ridiculing the Republican candidate. Greenberg, who reached out to PDN last week to talk about the shoot, said at the time, "I want to stir stuff up."
