As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here
are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask,
"What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think. If a woman
over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about
it. She does something she wants to do, and it's usually more interesting.
Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at
the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you
deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away
with it. Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know
what it's like to be unappreciated. Women get psychic as they age. You never
have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. Once you get past a wrinkle or
two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart. Older women
  are forthright and honest.

<clipSource>http://www.bpfrommer.com/Andy~Rooney~Women~Over~Forty.htm</clipSource>

"Give Me 5" Campaign to Help Women Identify Strokes

clipped by: BobbyDelray
clipper's remarks: I was surprised to learn this, "Women especially need to know the warning signs, because they account for almost 70 percent of the deaths from stroke."

Clip Source: www.aan.com

Help your patients recognize the five signs of stroke

The "Give Me 5" uses easy-to-remember words to help identify the five signs of stroke. So why do women's garments button from the left?

This is an example in which history seems to matter. When buttons first appeared in the 17th century, they were seen only on garments of the wealthy. At that time it was the custom for rich men to dress themselves and for women to be dressed by servants.

Having women's shirts button from the left thus made things easier for the mostly right-handed servants who dressed them. Having men's shirts button from the right made sense not only because most men dressed themselves, but also because a sword drawn from the left hip with the right hand would be less likely to become caught in the shirt. Today, virtually no women are dressed by servants, so why is buttoning from the left still the norm for women?

In economics, a norm, once established, resists change.

<clipSource>http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html?in_article_id=548730&in_page_id=1879</clipSource>

Bet You Didn't Know This - Strange and interesing things to know

clipped by: murieleileen

Clip Source: www.robinsweb.com

There are no words in the dictionary that rhyme with orange,
Wearing a bra, especially a constricting one with underwires, and especially to bed, prevents normal lymphatic flow and would likely lead to anoxia (lower than normal oxygen content), which has been related to fibrosis, which has been linked to increased cancer risk.
There we have it, ladies!

Women who wore bras more than 12 hour per day but not to bed had a 1 out of 7 risk.
The overall difference between 24 hour wearing and not at all was a 125-fold difference.

Say Good-bye to Morning Sickness With Ginger

clipped by: murieleileen

Clip Source: www.mercola.com

As much as 80 percent of pregnant women suffer from morning sickness
in their first trimester. However, expecting mothers need not fear,
for research may have discovered a natural way to help ease these
			  queasy, wrenching feelings: Ginger.

Ginger proved to be more effective in reducing nausea and vomiting
in pregnant women than a placebo, and worked just as well as vitamin
B6 (found to improve morning sickness symptoms in pregnant women),
according to studies. None of the women who took ginger had experienced
			  problems with their pregnancies.

These findings most likely come as a relief to expecting mothers.
While there are numerous medications specifically designed to ease
symptoms of morning sickness, many soon-to-be mothers withdraw from
using drugs for fear of causing negative side effects in their unborn
children. Instead, they turn to alternative treatments:

Vitamins

Acupuncture

Herbal products

Homeopathic remedies

Yet among natural options, ginger has long been used to treat nausea.

Such women may also tend to give birth to more intelligent children. One possible reason is the greater percentage of omega 3 fats found on the hips.

The study examined 16,000 women and girls, and found that women with a greater difference between the waist and hips scored significantly higher on cognitive tests, as did their children. Those with a waist-to-hip ratio between 0.6 and 0.7 achieved the highest scores.

Fat around hips and thighs holds higher levels of omega 3 fats, which are essential for the growth of the brain during pregnancy. Fat around the waist may have higher levels of omega 6 fats acids, which are less well suited to brain growth. Waist fat is also more likely to be a contributory factor in diabetes and heart

Tags: fat, hips, brain, women, children, omega 3 fats

<clipSource>http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/1/24/is-fat-on-your-hips-better-for-your-brain-than-fat-on-your-belly.aspx</clipSource>

How To Talk To A Man

clipped by: murieleileen

Clip Source: www.prevention.com

There's a reason he doesn't hear what you're saying. It seems there is no bigger difference between men and women--and no difference that causes more friction--than the way we communicate with each other. Over and over, I hear friends and patients say, "Sometimes talking to the man in my life is like banging my head against a brick wall. He just doesn't listen, or he's irritated and doesn't respond."

It's not that men don't listen or don't care. Rather, new research shows, they process what they hear differently than women do, quite possibly because of gender disparities in their brain chemistry, structure, and activity. If variations in our gray and white matter affect our mating behavior, as research suggests, it's not surprising that these differences might also influence how we relate to our children and friends and communicate with our partner. It's likely, too, that our brain differences affect our day-to-day exchanges,

Tags: men, relationships, communication, love, brain

<clipSource>http://www.prevention.com/cda/article/how-to-talk-to-a-man/8fe88169c1903110VgnVCM20000012281eac____/health/healthy.relationships/marriage/0/0/1</clipSource>

A Voice For The Rural Women Of China

clipped by: debbyski

Clip Source: www.latimes.com

Xie Lihua's parents wanted a boy. LOS ANGELES, Jan. 1 How happy a woman feels in her marriage affects how a key stress hormone -- linked to several diseases -- recovers during the day, a U.S. study found.

Lead author Darby E. Saxbe, a University of California at Los Angeles graduate student and Rena Repetti, a UCLA professor, said long-term elevated cortisol levels have been associated with depression, burnout, chronic fatigue syndrome, relationship problems, poor social adjustment and possibly cancer.

Cortisol levels start high in the morning and decline during the day -- with intermittent rises as stressors arouse the adrenal gland. The slope of the hormone's daily decline is linked to well-being and better health.

The study, published in Health Psychology, found women in happy marriages enjoyed stronger cortisol declines than women in less blissful unions, but there was no difference in the men.

<clipSource>http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/167400.html</clipSource>

Where Boys Were Kings

clipped by: debbyski

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

SEOUL, South Korea — When Park He-ran was a young mother, other women would approach her to ask what her secret was. She had given birth to three boys in a row at a time when South Korean women considered it their paramount duty to bear a son.

Ms. Park, a 61-year-old newspaper executive, gets a different reaction today. “When I tell people I have three sons and no daughter, they say they are sorry for my misfortune,” she said. “Within a generation, I have turned from the luckiest woman possible to a pitiful mother.”

The most important factor in changing attitudes toward girls was the radical shift in the country’s economy that opened the doors to women in the work force as never before and dismantled long-held traditions, which so devalued daughters that mothers would often apologize for giving birth to a girl.

Tags: dont, mess, with, mother, nature

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/23/world/asia/23skorea.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin</clipSource>

Girls and Women

clipped by: sahara
clipper's remarks: Women of Iraq have gradually let go of most of their 20th century gains and privileges in the last 4 years of occupation.

The 19-year-old woman - whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms - was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape", the Arab News reported.

But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia's Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200.

A court source told the English-language Arab News that the judges had decided to punish the woman further for "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media".

Saudi Arabia enforces a strict Islamic doctrine known as Wahhabism and forbids unrelated men and women from associating with each other, bans women from driving and forces them to cover head-to-toe in public.

Tags: saudi arabia, muslim, islam

<clipSource>http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_2221631,00.html</clipSource>
