diets fail because we are still thinking and eating like people.
For those of us who have never had any success dieting, now there
is the new Cat Miracle Diet!

DAY
              ONE:
Breakfast: Open can of expensive gourmet cat food. Any flavor
as long as it cost more than $.75 per can — and place 1/4 cup
on your plate. Eat 1 bite of food; look around room disdainfully.
Knock the rest on the floor. Stare at the wall for awhile before
stalking off into the other room.
Lunch: Four blades of grass and one lizard tail. Throw it
back up on the cleanest carpet in your house.
Dinner: Catch a moth and play with it until it is almost
              dead. Eat one wing.
Bedtime snack: Steal one green bean from your spouse's or
partner's plate. Bat it around the floor until it goes under the
refrigerator. Steal one small piece of chicken and eat half of it.
Leave the other half on the sofa. Throw out the remaining gourmet
cat food from the can you opened this morning.

DAY

They studied 752 Chinese men and women (aged 40-59) randomly chosen from three rural villages in the north and south of China, and found that the number of overweight individuals was significantly higher for MSG users than nonusers. The results of this study were published in the scientific journal Obesity in August 2008.

This is the first human study to look at the link between MSG and weight. Previous studies on MSG and obesity have only been conducted on mice. In those studies, weight gain was significantly greater in MSG-treated mice compared with the control group, even when they were given similar portions of food. A possible explanation for this is that MSG alters the regulatory mechanisms that affect fat metabolism.

What's MSG?

Tags: msg, weigh, weigh gain, diet, fat, health, human, study, obesity

<clipSource>http://www.healthcastle.com/msg.shtml</clipSource>

Wild orangutans treat pain with natural anti-inflammatory

clipped by: Mohir
clipper's remarks: After using the leaves, the orangutan dropped them, allowing Morrogh-Bernard and her assistant to find out what they were. The leaves belong to a genus called Commelina, a group of plants that orangutans do not eat as part of their normal diet. However, local indigenous people know the plant well, grinding it into a balm and applying it to their skin to treat muscular pain, sore bones and swellings.

Clip Source: www.newscientist.com

Wild orangutans have been spotted using naturally occurring anti-inflammatory drugs.

Four individuals have been seen rubbing a soothing balm onto their limbs, the first known examples of orangutans self medicating. Great apes have never before been seen using drugs in this way. Remarkably though, local people use the same balm, administering it in a similar way to treat aches and pains.

In 2005, she witnessed an adult female pick a handful of leaves from a plant and then chew them, mixing the leaves with her saliva to produce a green-white lather. The female then scooped up some of the lather with her right hand and applied it up and down the back of her left arm, from the base of the shoulder to the wrist, just as a person would apply sunscreen.

"She was concentrating on her arm only and was methodical in the way she was applying the soapy foam," says Morrogh-Bernard. Medieval physicians believed that they could diagnose disease by holding up a flask of the patient’s urine to the light and squinting at it. Now, scientists at Imperial College London believe they could have been on to something.

Researchers have completed the first worldwide study of the metabolites (breakdown products) that are found in urine, reflecting the diet, inheritance and the lifestyle of the people from whom it came. They call such studies “metabolomics.”

The team believes that the research may provide the basis for a “metabolome-wide association” approach to help to understand interactions between lifestyles, environment and genes and how they determine diseases.

For instance, the team has identified metabolites that are linked to high blood pressure, and others that are found in people with lower blood pressure who drink less and eat more fiber.

"There are in fact thin people who are sedentary, unfit, smoke and have poor health and there are fat people who eat a healthful diet, don't smoke, are regularly physically active and therefore fit and enjoy better health. So you can't tell by looking at someone whether they are healthy or not," he said.

Tags: research, health, fitness

<clipSource>http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2007/dec/05/fitness.fat.exercise</clipSource>

8-Action Cancer Prevention Diet Plan

clipped by: murieleileen

Clip Source: www.healthcastle.com

8-Action Cancer Prevention

Diet Plan

(HealthCastle.com) A long-awaited scientific report on cancer prevention stated plain and simple that the more pounds you're carrying, the greater your risk of developing one or more of 17 cancers.
