Some of the icons have human faces, but most of the icons are just icons, without any human face! There are baby icons, smiling icons, raging icons, flowery icons, frowning icons and fantastic icons…in the sea of such multitude of icons; you try to find your own special space for your own special icon!

May be, that's what makes everything so special and so interesting about these websites! It becomes such a beautiful paradox that we think we know a lot about way too many people from far away places, but then again, we don't know any of them or anything worthwhile about any one of them: that makes the networking experience so unique and wonderful!

We know people from Canada, Japan, Poland, Russia, USA (of course!), India, Singapore and Austria…and then we don't know anyone from anywhere at all!

LEESBURG, Virginia (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday described Iran as an obstacle to peace in the Middle East and said the world could not stand by and allow it to develop a nuclear weapon.

Cheney's comments underscored a ratcheting up of U.S. rhetoric toward Tehran and came just days after President George W. Bush warned that a nuclear-armed Iran could lead to World War Three.

"The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course, the international community is prepared to impose serious consequences," Cheney told a forum organized by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. "The United States joins other nations in sending a clear message: We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon."

"Our country and the entire international community cannot stand by as a terror-supporting state fulfills its most aggressive ambitions," he said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Thursday directed the Health and Human Services Department to establish a task force to plan for potential catastrophes like a terrorist attack, pandemic influenza or a natural disaster where there would be a large number of casualties, the White House said on Thursday.

Bush, whose administration was sharply criticized for a slow government response to Hurricane Katrina, issued a directive to establish a National Strategy for Public Health and Medical Preparedness.

Within four months, the task force must submit a plan outlining how to improve government response to a catastrophic public health event to Fran Townsend, White House homeland security adviser.

The directive orders 24 steps to be taken, including requiring the Health and Human Services Department to work with state and local governments and the private sector to develop plans for responding to a mass-casualty event.

LONDON (Reuters) - More than 130 Muslim scholars called on Thursday for peace and understanding between Islam and Christianity, saying "the very survival of the world itself is perhaps at stake".

In a letter to Pope Benedict and other Christian leaders, Muslim scholars from around the world said finding common ground between the world's biggest religions was not simply a matter for polite dialogue between religious leaders.

"If Muslims and Christians are not at peace, the world cannot be at peace. With the terrible weaponry of the modern world; with Muslims and Christians intertwined everywhere as never before, no side can unilaterally win a conflict between more than half of the world's inhabitants," the scholars wrote.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Drug-resistant bacteria are infecting more people in community settings such as prisons and public housing, and not just in hospitals where such "superbugs" can run rampant, researchers said on Monday.

Over a five-year period, researchers at a Chicago hospital found a seven-fold increase in drug-resistant staph infections that had been contracted outside of any hospital.

They projected the rate of infection rose to 164 cases per 100,000 people in 2005, up from 24 cases per 100,000 in 2000.

The stubborn infections -- known as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus -- do not respond to standard antibiotic treatment, said the report published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Drug-resistant infections caught in U.S. hospitals kill 90,000 people annually and cost $4.5 billion, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The problem has also been documented in Canada and Britain.

NEW DELHI: The United States is soliciting across the board investment with focus on knowledge-based sectors from India to improve job prospects for its workforce.

The world's largest economy is seeking investment to "import jobs", assistant secretary in US Department of Commerce, David Bohigian said today while addressing an interactive meeting on "Invest in America" theme with the members of the Indo-American Chambers of Commerce.

Bohigian further said as part of the three-point agenda to seek investment, US government has committed itself to become more open, work towards reducing health and insurance cost and relax visa policy.

The Indian businessmen attending the session expressed interest in setting up units and buying SMEs in the US.

The new visa regulations would be in place by August, he said adding the US government was trying to "find the right balance between security and prosperity."

I'm a great fan of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas). I understand he is a Republican candidate for president. Although I strongly encourage people to seriously consider him, he is running against huge odds and the likelihood of a victory are remote.

Dr. Paul is also one of the very few physicians serving in Congress, and I agree completely with his positions on decreasing America's involvement in the field of health care.

You'll probably get a chuckle, as I did, about the sign sitting in plain sight on Dr. Paul's desk in Washington that reminds visitors about the vast sums of our tax dollars the government wastes every day.

Lotfi Raissi says his life was destroyed by the accusations

A pilot wrongly accused of training the 9/11 hijackers has lost his fight for compensation from the government.

Lotfi Raissi, 32, of west London, was detained for nearly five months after being arrested following the 2001 attacks in the United States.

Two High Court judges ruled against a challenge to a government decision that the Algerian was ineligible for a Home Office compensation scheme.

He had argued the refusal of bail for him amounted to wrongful detention.

Lord Justice Auld and Mr Justice Wilkie ruled that Mr Raissi's detention was as part of an extradition case that was not "in the domestic criminal process" and thus did not come within the compensation scheme.

His lawyer, Edward Fitzgerald QC, had previously told the High Court there was "not a shred of evidence" against his client, and that the sole reason for his detention was a US extradition request.

Mr Raissi, of Chiswick, has said he was traumatised by his time in custody and that the whole episode had left him unable to pursue his ambition to be a commercial pilot.

He described the judges' ruling as a "body blow".

He was released on bail in February 2002, and, two months later, a judge declared there was no evidence linking him to the attacks.

Mr Raissi wanted compensation from a government fund for those who have been victims of miscarriages of justice, but government lawyers said this did not apply to extradition cases.

Mr Khawar Qureshi, appearing for the home secretary, also argued that the pilot could not claim a payment as an "exceptional case" because he had never been fully exonerated.

Though a judge in Britain had found there was no offence for which he could be extradited, that did not amount to exoneration.

"I have no choice but to keep my faith in British justice and pray that it won't be too much longer in coming.
