Jul. 4 - Japan's biggest astronomical observatories are teaming up for a fresh quest to find out if there is life in outer space.

They're aiming to pursue their investigation by marshalling their combined resources to view intensively one small area of space over a short period of time.

G8 set to clash with poorer states on climate

TOYAKO, Japan (Reuters) - Big emerging economies including China looked set on Wednesday to clash with G8 rich countries over how to fight global warming.

Papering over deep differences, the G8 said on Tuesday they would work toward a target of at least halving global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 but emphasized they would not be able to do it alone.

The U.N.-led talks aim to create a new framework for when the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012.

Critics said the G8 agreement was a timid advance on last year's summit commitment in Heiligendamm, Germany, to seriously consider the 2050 goal of halving emissions by mid-century.

"This is a complete failure of responsibility. They haven't moved forward at all. They've ducked the responsibility of adopting clear mid-term targets

even the 2050 target is not a single thing more than what we got in Heiligendamm,"

Too much coffee can reduce the chances of a woman with fertility problems getting pregnant, a study suggests.

Dutch researchers followed 9,000 women who had received IVF to see if they fell pregnant naturally.

Around one in seven did, but drinking more than four cups of coffee a day cut chances of conceiving by around 26%.

Experts said the findings, presented to a European conference, only applied to women with poor fertility who wanted to maximise their chances of pregnancy.

The researchers, from Radboud University in Nijmegan, studied all women who had received IVF treatment in the Netherlands between 1985 and 1995.

They found 16% of the women went on to conceive naturally, 45% within six months of their last IVF treatment.

Drinking alcohol at least three times a week carried the same risk as excessive caffeine intake.

But smoking more than one cigarette a day and being overweight reduced the chances of pregnancy even more.

"It is only a problem if you are subfertile and you overdose."

Around 100 people a week in the UK have a limb amputated as a result of diabetes, a charity has claimed.

Diabetes UK highlighted the statistic to raise awareness of the "life-shattering" impact of the illness.

People with diabetes are 15 times more likely to need a lower limb amputation than people without the condition.

Diabetes, which is on the increase, can also cause heart attacks, strokes, blindness and kidney failure.

This situation is shocking given that most amputations can be prevented with better awareness and management of the condition

People with diabetes are far more likely to develop foot problems, including ulcers, which can get infected and can even lead to gangrene.

More than one in 10 foot ulcers results in an amputation.

Figures suggest that about seven out of 10 people having an amputation will die within five years.

Scientists say they have found more evidence that men as well as women have biological clocks and that they start to tick in their mid-30s.

A French study of over 12,200 couples having fertility treatment suggests the chance of a successful pregnancy falls when the man is aged over 35.

It adds that the chance is significantly lower if he is over 40.

The researchers told a European reproductive health conference that it was likely the problems were caused by DNA damage in sperm.

"Previous studies of couples trying to conceive naturally or undergoing IVF have shown that men over the age of about 40 are less fertile than younger men. Moreover, if they do achieve a pregnancy their partners are more likely to miscarry.

"This study reinforces the message that men aren't excused from reproductive ageing."

By the end of the day, we don't live in our work place: we return home to our family.

The rush outs, the meetings, the preparations and the presentations…all these we do for the simple fact that we can earn a decent income, live a comfortable life and can provide a comfortable living for our family.

No one and nothing is worth loosing our time and energy, in anyway!

Then again, it is not that easy to let go off all our negative emotions which we had learned and had accumulated all through our lives: such emotions, though injurious to our health, tend to become a vital part of our personality and of our life pattern! We obviously cannot throw them away and start living like Buddha or Mahatma Gandhi! If changes can be brought into our life that easier, then we won't be having our inspirational gurus and heroes to learn from and follow through!

National Geographic has created an emergency fund to help avert a potential conservation disaster: the complete loss of lions in and around Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most important tourist destinations. As they teeter on the brink of extinction, these lions do not have the luxury of time. The decline in the lion population in this region has reached a critical status that needs addressing on a major scale.

In partnership with Explorers-in-Residence Beverly and Dereck Joubert, filmmakers and conservationists who have worked in some of Africa’s most remote wildlife areas for more than 25 years, National Geographic is committed to this urgent conservation issue. In addition to the fund, National Geographic is providing an emergency $150,000 grant to the Maasailand Preservation Trust, co-led by Richard Bonham and Tom Hill. The grant will aid the trust’s Predator Compensation Fund, which provides compensation to local Maasai herdsmen for livestock killed by lions

People donating eggs or sperm to infertile couples no longer have the right to anonymity. Despite fears of excessive claims on donors, many children could benefit.

Eighteen-year-old Zannah Merricks from north London is among the 2,000 children conceived each year using donor sperm or eggs.

"I'm not looking for a father," she says. "I already have one."

"I want to meet the donor because I want to know the other half of where I'm from," she says.

"I want to know my genetic history," she says. "And it would be interesting to know what traits I have that we might share, what we might have in common.

"I'm very arty. What if he is arty too? And I'm blonde and blue-eyed.

"This sort of information is what other people just take for granted."

"It's much more likely that I'll be able to find siblings."

Smallest planet shrinks in size!

The smallest planet in the Solar System has become even smaller, studies by the Messenger spacecraft have shown.

Data from a flyby of Mercury in January 2008 show the planet has contracted by more than one mile (1.5km) in diameter over its history.

Scientists believe the shrinkage is due to the planet's core slowly cooling.

Studies published in the journal Science show the same process also powers the planet's magnetic field, a topic long debated by scientists.

It was the first time the planet had been viewed up close since Mariner 10's third and final fly-by in March 1975.

She had taken out the bottle of her pills! She is suffering from a worst kind of an inherited disease! She was wondering the billionth time as to what right the parents has got to pass on such diseases to their children? What kind of a system this is in the God's world?

She is on medication for a long time now and still the pain walks through her, killing her body and the spirit, making her to kneel in front it, begging for forgiveness and kindness! It just bounces on her unannounced and it possesses her like a demon! She becomes invalid when the pain kills her from inside! A hundred doctors can never cure her but still they give her the medications! There are more medicines in her cupboards now, than in the entire shop of a chemist!

She took yet another set of medication and was sitting, waiting for the pain to go away

Call for sex lessons at age four

Children as young as four should be given compulsory sex education, two leading sexual health charities say.

The Family Planning Association and Brook told BBC Newsbeat more should be done to cut abortion rates and sexually transmitted infections among teenagers.

They argue gradual education from such a young age would help children not to rush into sex when they were older.

The Department for Children, Schools and Family said it was reviewing the

delivery of sex education in schools.

Children aged four might be taught about the names of body parts and basic ideas about different relationships.

The government is not giving young people enough information about sex and relationships, the charities add.

He added: "All the evidence shows that if you start sex and relationships education early - before children start puberty, before they feel sexual attraction - they start having sex later.

"They are much more likely to use contraception and practise safe sex."
