They're considered dangerous, distant and difficult. The U.S. State Department warns against visiting, and your mother probably would, too. But for a certain breed of American traveler, destinations more associated with trouble than tourism are the place to go.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. watch list of terrorism suspects has passed 1 million records, corresponding to about 400,000 people, and a leading civil rights group said on Monday the number was far too high to be effective.

The Bush administration disagreed and called the list one of the most effective tools implemented after the September 11 hijacked plane attacks -- when a federal "no-fly" list contained just 16 people considered threats to aviation

The American Civil Liberties Union publicized the 1 million milestone with a news conference and release.

It said the watch list was an impediment to millions of travelers and called for changes, including tightening criteria for adding names, giving travelers a right to challenge their inclusion and improving procedures for taking wrongly included names off the list.

Some of the icons have human faces, but most of the icons are just icons, without any human face! There are baby icons, smiling icons, raging icons, flowery icons, frowning icons and fantastic icons…in the sea of such multitude of icons; you try to find your own special space for your own special icon!

May be, that's what makes everything so special and so interesting about these websites! It becomes such a beautiful paradox that we think we know a lot about way too many people from far away places, but then again, we don't know any of them or anything worthwhile about any one of them: that makes the networking experience so unique and wonderful!

We know people from Canada, Japan, Poland, Russia, USA (of course!), India, Singapore and Austria…and then we don't know anyone from anywhere at all!

(6) San Zhi, Taiwan is an abandoned settlement on the outskirts of Taipei, Taiwan.

LEESBURG, Virginia (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday described Iran as an obstacle to peace in the Middle East and said the world could not stand by and allow it to develop a nuclear weapon.

Cheney's comments underscored a ratcheting up of U.S. rhetoric toward Tehran and came just days after President George W. Bush warned that a nuclear-armed Iran could lead to World War Three.

"The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course, the international community is prepared to impose serious consequences," Cheney told a forum organized by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. "The United States joins other nations in sending a clear message: We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon."

"Our country and the entire international community cannot stand by as a terror-supporting state fulfills its most aggressive ambitions," he said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Thursday directed the Health and Human Services Department to establish a task force to plan for potential catastrophes like a terrorist attack, pandemic influenza or a natural disaster where there would be a large number of casualties, the White House said on Thursday.

Bush, whose administration was sharply criticized for a slow government response to Hurricane Katrina, issued a directive to establish a National Strategy for Public Health and Medical Preparedness.

Within four months, the task force must submit a plan outlining how to improve government response to a catastrophic public health event to Fran Townsend, White House homeland security adviser.

The directive orders 24 steps to be taken, including requiring the Health and Human Services Department to work with state and local governments and the private sector to develop plans for responding to a mass-casualty event.

LONDON (Reuters) - More than 130 Muslim scholars called on Thursday for peace and understanding between Islam and Christianity, saying "the very survival of the world itself is perhaps at stake".

In a letter to Pope Benedict and other Christian leaders, Muslim scholars from around the world said finding common ground between the world's biggest religions was not simply a matter for polite dialogue between religious leaders.

"If Muslims and Christians are not at peace, the world cannot be at peace. With the terrible weaponry of the modern world; with Muslims and Christians intertwined everywhere as never before, no side can unilaterally win a conflict between more than half of the world's inhabitants," the scholars wrote.

Relations between Muslims and Christians have been under strain as al Qaeda has struck around the world

India to overtake United States by 2050: Report

MUMBAI: Productivity growth will help India sustain over 8% growth until 2020 and become the second largest economy in the world, ahead of the US, by 2050, Goldman Sachs has said, scaling up estimates of the country's prospects in its October 2003 research paper widely known as the BRICs report.

The original report had projected that India's GDP would outstrip Japan's by 2032 and that in 30 years, it would be the world's third largest economy after China and the US. The new report goes one step further by moving India up from No. 3 and No. 2 in the global sweepstakes of tomorrow.

Goldman Sachs' research arm said in a global research paper released on Monday that India's growth acceleration since 2003 represented a structural increase rather than simply a cyclical upturn. It said productivity growth drove nearly half of overall growth and expected it to continue for some years.

"We project India's potential or sustainable growth rate at about 8% until 2020. The implication is that India's contribution to world growth will be even greater (and faster) than implied in our previous BRICs research," Goldman Sachs Global Research said.

The vote of increased confidence from the world's largest investment bank, whose previous chairman Henry Paulson is now treasury secretary in the Bush administration, comes when India is easing into its new seat in the global political arena as a nuclear power and consolidating its economic might as the world's services backbone.

The paper said a turnaround in manufacturing productivity was central to the ratcheting up of productivity growth. The private sector was the principal driver of this turnaround, as it improved efficiency in the face of increased competition due to the cumulative effects of a decade of reforms.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Drug-resistant bacteria are infecting more people in community settings such as prisons and public housing, and not just in hospitals where such "superbugs" can run rampant, researchers said on Monday.

Over a five-year period, researchers at a Chicago hospital found a seven-fold increase in drug-resistant staph infections that had been contracted outside of any hospital.

They projected the rate of infection rose to 164 cases per 100,000 people in 2005, up from 24 cases per 100,000 in 2000.

The stubborn infections -- known as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus -- do not respond to standard antibiotic treatment, said the report published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Drug-resistant infections caught in U.S. hospitals kill 90,000 people annually and cost $4.5 billion, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The problem has also been documented in Canada and Britain.
