The surprise in the top 20 is Uruguay, which is listed ninth, and the only well-placed nation not to be in the club of countries which are rich, or Western (and usually both).

A group of islands with the potential to develop into a tourist paradise has been named as the country least equipped to withstand the effects of climate change.

The Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean, between Mozambique and Madagascar, are a small nation of sparkling blue lagoons and picture-postcard beaches. But the country is politically unstable and a report published today says it is the world's most vulnerable country to the future impacts of global warming such as increased storms, rising sea levels and agricultural failure.

At the other end of the scale, Canada is the best place to move to if you want to be a climate change survivor in the decades ahead (although Britain is also a good place to be as a warming atmosphere takes hold).

How Meditation Affects Your Body

It turns out peaceful thoughts really can influence our bodies, right down to the instructions we receive from our DNA, according to a new study.

took blood samples from a group of 19 people who habitually meditated or prayed for years, and 19 others who never meditated.

the meditating group suppressed more than twice the number of stress-related genes -- about 1,000 of them -- than the nonmeditating group.

Over long periods of time, these stress responses can worsen high blood pressure, pain syndromes and other conditions.

The nonmeditating group then spent 10 minutes a day for eight weeks training in relaxation techniques that involved repeating a prayer, thought, sound, phrase or movement.

What this does is to break the train of everyday thought -- you no longer have stressful thoughts and because of that the body is able to return to a healthy state

By the end of the training,

novice meditating group was also suppressing stress-related genes

at lower levels

She had taken out the bottle of her pills! She is suffering from a worst kind of an inherited disease! She was wondering the billionth time as to what right the parents has got to pass on such diseases to their children? What kind of a system this is in the God's world?

She is on medication for a long time now and still the pain walks through her, killing her body and the spirit, making her to kneel in front it, begging for forgiveness and kindness! It just bounces on her unannounced and it possesses her like a demon! She becomes invalid when the pain kills her from inside! A hundred doctors can never cure her but still they give her the medications! There are more medicines in her cupboards now, than in the entire shop of a chemist!

She took yet another set of medication and was sitting, waiting for the pain to go away

In America, the Fourth of July is the day we celebrate the announcement, to the world, that a new kind of governing ideal had come to stay. It celebrates a letter, written primarily by Thomas Jefferson, sent to King George III and the rest of the world telling them a new way of life has proven itself in America, and Americans want to retain that way.

Today, Americans are on the verge of cancelling that letter. Too many today prefer to be managed riff-raff and no longer responsible for themselves. The task of living free is too difficult. We have arrived at a time when Americans are rejecting the contents of that letter, the Declaration of Independence, and want to return to the Old World ways, where the few elite rule the many. In the coming election, we are looking for the return of the elite few who will shape and manage our lives as they see fit.

Most of us would answer that it’s the manuscript written on vellum, dated July 4, 1776, now displayed in a baroque case at the National Archives, where it is protected by bulletproof glass, argon gas and the 55-ton underground vault it is lowered into every night. But like everything connected to the Declaration, the situation is complicated, for that document was not written on July 4; it was a handwritten copy that Congress ordered later that summer and post-dated. University of Toyama researchers have built the first DNA molecule made almost entirely of artificial parts.

The researchers used DNA synthesis equipment to assemble four artificial bases (basic building blocks of DNA) inside the framework of a DNA molecule. The unusually stable, double-stranded structures resemble natural DNA, which also has four bases.

Until now, scientists have only been able to craft DNA molecules with one or a few artificial parts, including certain bases.

The finding could lead to nanocomputers, improvements in gene therapy, and other high-tech advances.

female pronghorns are looking for good genes when they select mates. Furthermore, females can detect males that have a genetic advantage, regardless of the males' appearance. So, one could say that beauty is in the genes of the beholder.

before and during the period of sexual excitement in the female pronghorns, males suitable for breeding occupy fixed locations. The males collect females that come near and defend the females from other males. The female groups are called harems.

The researchers discovered that the offspring from that genetic pool are stronger and more likely to survive to weaning. Also, the fawns tended to grow faster and suckle less from their mothers.

Wal-Mart may face up to $2 billion in fines after a Minnesota state judge found a total of 2 million contractual violations by the retail giant.

The judge also ruled on Monday that Wal-Mart owed $6.5 million to 56,000 current and former employees because of contractual violations, including a failure to give workers promised rest breaks at least 1.5 million times. The judge also found that Wal-Mart managers in Minnesota had systematically broken the law by having employees take in-house training while off the clock.

“It’s only through a decision like this that Wal-Mart can be held to its contractual agreements and to complying with Minnesota law.”

The truth is that he was never the target. Assassination would not have produced occupation. It would have save 4,000+ US lives but we have learnt that these didn't matter either. The out of sight, out of mind, no presidential presence at funerals worked for AWOL Bush. However the broken in mind and body will not go away so easily. Until they are swamped by the next lot.

Denmark is the happiest country in the world, according to the latest World Values Survey published by the United States National Science Foundation.

The annual study surveyed people in 97 countries to discover who is happiest.

The survey asked people two simple questions about their happiness and their level of satisfaction with life.

Puerto Rico and Colombia completed the top three happiest nations. Zimbabwe was found to be the least happy, with Russia and Iraq also in the bottom 10.

The study also found that the countries at the bottom of the list all struggle with widespread poverty or authoritarian governments.
