Premier League - Portsmouth in crisis after players not paid

Premier League bottom club Portsmouth's crisis deepened after they failed to pay player wages for the second time this season

"The majority of the first team squad have not yet received their November salaries," the club said.

"A proportion of their wages will be paid tomorrow (Friday), with the club's new owners working towards paying the remainder over the next few days."

Portsmouth are fighting for their top flight survival, languishing seven points adrift of the safety zone after 14 matches.

The South Coast club also failed to play first-team players on time in September due to delays in refinancing by then owner Sulaiman al-Fahim.

Portsmouth were banned by the Premier League in October from registering any new players because of unpaid debts to other clubs.

"But if that is happening in the Premier League I'm sure it is not good for the image of the game and, if it is the case, it is not going to be highly thought of at the headquarters of the Premier League either.

The Dutchman sustained tghe damage in the 10th minute of Holland's goalless draw against Italy in Pescara two weeks ago.

He was carried off on a stretcher following a heavy challenge from Azzurri defender Giorgio Chiellini and was originally expected to be out for between four to six weeks.

Advice was sought from the leading ankle specialist Mr Niek van Dijk, who confirmed that more extensive damage had been suffered than was first diagnosed," read a statement on the Arsenal official website.

"In order to repair his ankle, Robin van Persie will undergo surgery next week in Amsterdam to reconstruct the ligaments. The Club's medical team anticipate that a full recovery will take between four and five months.

"Robin returned to Arsenal on November 22nd following an ankle injury sustained whilst on international duty with Holland. The injury was expected to keep him out of action for between four and six weeks.

A 14-year-old schoolgirl has died after taking a new party drug called Meow Meow - which can be bought legally on the internet.

The drug mephedrone is also causing concern in Scotland after several youngsters were taken to hospital after taking the legal high.

It is not illegal to sell the drug and it is easily available to buy online - as long as it is not advertised for human consumption.

After a quick search, Sky News Online found a website selling mephedrone, which is used as a plant feeder, for just £15 a gram.

The company based in Cornwall stresses the drug is "not for human consumption and anybody abusing this product will no longer be able to use this site".

Teen Gabi Price suffered a cardiac arrest and died at the city's Royal Sussex County Hospital on Saturday.

In Scotland, Strathclyde Police are urging teenagers to avoid the drug, which is sold as Moonshine, often in a small, re-sealable plastic bag with a cannabis-leaf motif.

British new supercar maker unveiled the AF-10

British supercar maker Arash has unveiled its new AF-10 supercar and it's aiming to give established manufacturers a shock with its high-tech design. Looking quite similar to Ferrari's outrageous FXX supercar, the AF-10 uses lightweight carbon fibre for its entire body and chassis - just like a Formula One racer.

Underneath the angular and aerodynamically efficient body lies a 7.0-litre V8 engine normally found in Corvettes. It sits in the middle of the car, just behind the cockpit, and produces 550bhp. Driving through a six-speed manual gearbox, it should be enough to see the Arash AS-10 from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and top speed is estimated at 205mph by the car's builders.

Arash is planning an even more powerful version of the AF-10 that will use a supercharged Corvette engine boasting 800bhp.

this will give the British supercar a better power-to-weight ratio than the incredible Bugatti Veyron.

Arash is yet to announce when the AF-10 will go on sale

Tube train stops inches from woman on tracks

A security camera has captured the moment a woman fell on the tracks on Boston's Orange Line as a train headed straight for her.

Passengers flailed their arms at the driver, who stopped just in time.

A witness said the train came to a standstill inches from the woman, who had scraped knees but was otherwise not hurt.

There are reports that the woman had been drinking for several hours before she fell.

Everyone in the station applauded the driver, Charice Lewis, who has been honoured by the T's Board of Directors as a hero.

Lewis, a 27-year-old train operator from Mattapan, said she did not have time to think, she just reacted. Recounting her emotions in the seconds after the incident she said: "It was so close, I thought it was not good."

"Afterward she came up with a big smile on her face and I'm like 'Oh my God, you really scared me' ", Lewis said. "The most exciting part for me is she crawled out from under."

Teenagers are being asked to complete an anonymous online "sexting" survey over fears that they are increasingly using mobile phones to distribute sexually explicit material.

The trend has caused alarm among professionals concerned for the well-being of youngsters, who have found their images strewn across message boards or social networking sites.

According to recent research, more than a third of 11 to 18-year-olds have received sex texts, or "sexts", on their phones - often sent by their school friends.

The messages contain images of sex acts involving young people or show youngsters - both boys and girls -

Material is sent to mobile phones via texts, transferred using Bluetooth or uploaded to social networking groups.

It is now hoping to tackle the problem by speaking to teenagers directly to find out about their mobile phone habits.

Experts fear young people may be unaware that they are breaking the law by making, producing or distributing explicit pictures.

An Australian cat named Smokey survived 13 shots to the head from an air rifle and then found his way home after what police on Tuesday called a "shocking" act of animal cruelty.

The nine-year-old moggy turned up on his owners' doorstep bleeding from his head last week, three days after he went missing from the family home in Maryborough, central Victoria.

A medical examination revealed 13 pellets lodged in his head and face. Sergeant Craig Pearse said it was remarkable Smokey had managed to get home after his ordeal.

The distressed feline had to be heavily sedated while 11 of the pellets were removed, he said, adding that Smokey was expected to recover.

Animal welfare advocate Hugh Wirth said the incident was "utterly disgraceful", and that Smokey's tormentors deserved jail.

"Almost certainly these will be young males around about the age of 18 to 20 who have done this," said Wirth, Victoria state's president of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Yahoo Mail users are being warned that a two-year-old hole in the service could be allowing hackers to gain easy access to their accounts, according to new reports.

Ryan Barnett, director of application security research at Breach Security, said the problem stems from a web application which automates the log-in procedure for the popular webmail service, according to a report in The Register.

However, this web app crucially fails to adhere to the same security checks normally followed by the usual log-in page, enabling "some sort of water tunnel that the bad guys are walking right through, hes reported as saying.

Hackers are therefore using the unsecure web app to carry out brute force attacks on user passwords; a process whereby they try all possible combinations of letter and numbers in order to crack the password, and gain entry to the account.

FRUSTRATED cops probing Jordan's claim to have been raped by a celebrity said yesterday they could do no more unless she co-operates.

Police were keen to pursue the allegation by glamour girl Katie Price, 31, but said she had not given them any "substantiated information".

They said Katie had failed to name her attacker or tell them when and where the rape took place. A Surrey force spokesman said: "There is nothing more we can do at this stage."

Katie's agent said she had initially revealed the claim to stick up for cage-fighting boyfriend Alex Reid, 34, who took part in a sick rape scene in a gangster film.

Yesterday she fled her £2million mansion at Woldingham, Surrey, in a pink VW Beetle and later boarded a helicopter.

Last night she was due to watch Reid do battle in a cage fight at a venue in East London.

Reid said: "If I win I will dedicate it to her."

Beatles' photos spark copyright suit

A former Beatles photographer is battling over the copyright for the first publicity photos of the rock group, after the images were used to sell books and DVDs featuring the band.

New York-based snapper Albert Marrion filed suit on Thursday over memorabilia containing copyrighted photos of the group.

Marrion claims he shot the images - which are believed to be the first promo photos of the rock legends - in 1961.

The Manhattan federal court suit says Marrion discovered the photos were featured "without permission" in four Beatles books and a DVD documentary available from Netflix, Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.

Memorabilia dealer Gary Schaeffer claims he has held the rights to the 16 pictures since 2001, reports the New York Post.

Hip-hop artist Dizzee Rascal refuses to work with superstar producers such as Timbaland and Kanye West - because they charge too much money.

The Bonkers hitmaker has stormed the charts this year after collaborating with Scottish musician Calvin Harris and DJ Armand Van Helden.

But he refuses to pay big bucks to record with top American artists, because he doesn't want to pay their huge fees.

He says, "I don't feel I should pay someone a quarter of a million (to produce me). Timbaland's not cheap. That's a lot (of money)."

Rock star Ozzy Osbourne described the success of the reality TV show about his family as "terrifying", in an extract from his memoirs published . Skip related content

The former Black Sabbath frontman, 60, said appearing in the MTV series The Osbournes was like being "strapped to a rocket and being blasted through the stratosphere at warp factor ten.".

His memoirs, called I Am Ozzy, describe his early success with rockers Black Sabbath, his marriage to Sharon and his battle against drink and drugs.

The Osbournes also made celebrities out of his wife Sharon and children Jack and Kelly who featured prominently in the show filmed at the family's Los Angeles home.

In his memoirs, extracts of which are published in The Times, Osbourne describes the infamous incident when he bit the head off a bat during a concert thinking it was a rubber toy.

BT is warning customers to be on their guard after a series of phone scams involving people claiming to be calling from the company.

The scammers call up their victim and warn them that their account is in arrears.

They then ask for card or bank details in order to settle the account.

f the person refuses or asks for proof, the fraudsters then offer to prove who they are by disconnecting the phone line then and there.

Once the victim puts the phone down, the scammer stays connected to their line, thus giving the impression that the customer's line no longer works.

Evidence shows this type of phone scam has been happening all over the country.
