clipper's remarks: I was shocked when Sarah Palin accepted the Republican VP nomination. While I am a staunch believe in a woman's ability to do anything, we also have to be realistic about the needs of our children.

First, I was appalled that a) Ms. Palin got on an 8 hour plane ride AFTER she started leaking amniotic fluid. That was totally irresponsible. I don't care WHAT medical resources were available on that plane, a plane is no substitute for a hospital with a neo-natal unit. Ms. Palin already knew that she was having a special needs baby - I find it incomprehensible that she would be so reckless as to take such a foolish risk.

Second, Trig is less then six months old and has Down Syndrome. The time parents spend with a child during infancy is crucial to the child's development, and even more so with a child that has challenges. Naomi Wolf, recently penned a book The End of America: A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot, which is basically a call to arms for citizens of the United States.

Basically, she chronicles the ten steps that occurred prior to the rise of the Nazi's, and shows that those same 10 steps are in process here, and now.

Invoke an internal and external threat - This one is fairly obvious. The threat that we are constantly confronted with is "Islamo-fascism," whatever that is. The Cowboy President would also have you believe that the ephemeral "War on Terror" is a never-ending, global fight that has to be waged, everywhere inside the United States and out, with no clear actors, and no clear path to victory.

Three Blind Mice

The farmer's wife in the poem is an allusion to the 16th Century Queen "Bloody" Mary I, and her enthusiasm for everything involving torture, death, and basically finding new ways to go down in textbooks as history's biggest bitch. The three mice supposedly represent three noblemen who got together and said, "Gee guys, maybe this Mary lady isn't all there." and were consequently prosecuted for conspiring against the queen.

If you're cringing at the thought of what the cutting off of their three "tails" symbolizes, don't worry. She didn't cut off their dongs. No, she proved she had some form of human empathy, and simply burning those suckers at the stake instead.

NEW YORK - It was an unusually honest ad for a live-in nanny, a 1,000-word tome beginning, "My kids are a pain." But it worked, attracting a brave soul who's never been a nanny before.

"If you cannot multitask, or communicate without being passive aggressive, don't even bother replying," Rebecca Land Soodak, a mother of four on Manhattan's Upper East Side, wrote Aug. 19 in her advertisement on Craigslist.

"I can be a tad difficult to work for. I'm loud, pushy and while I used to think we paid well, I am no longer sure."

Soodak, a 40-year-old painter whose husband owns a wine store, eventually hired Christina Wynn, a 25-year-old University of Virginia graduate, to take care of Rubin, 12; Ellis, 9; and Shay and Cassie, both 6.

Some other excerpts from the listing: "If you are fundamentally unhappy with your life, you will be more unhappy if you take this job, so do us all a favor and get some treatment or move to the Rockies, but do not apply for employment with us."

Disposable diaper breaks fall, saves child's life

SAO PAULO, Brazil - A disposable diaper has saved the life of an 18-month-old boy, breaking his fall from a third-floor apartment window, officials said Thursday.

Caua Felipe Massaneiro survived a 30-foot (10-meter) fall because his diaper snagged on a security spike embedded in the concrete wall around his apartment building in the northeastern Brazilian city of Recife.

The boy dangled from the spike for a moment, then "the diaper opened and the baby fell to the ground, but at a much slower speed," a police officer said. "The diaper obviously lessened the impact of the fall and saved the baby's life."

Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species. To this end, I hold M&M duels.

Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters. That is the "loser," and I eat the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to go another round.

When I reach the end of the pack, I am left with one M&M, the strongest of the herd. Since it would make no sense to eat this one as well, I pack it neatly in an envelope and send it to M&M Mars, A Division of Mars, Inc., Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 U.S.A., along with a 3x5 card reading, "Please use this M&M for breeding purposes."

This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for a free 1/2 pound bag of plain M&Ms. I consider this "grant money." I have set aside the weekend for a grand tournament. From a field of hundreds, we will discover the True Champion.

clipper's remarks: I'm not easy to convince. A claim has to have proof - there has to be evidence, there has to be numbers, and it has to make sense. After lots of reading, lots of listening, lots of thinking, I now can say that I know global warming is real and potentially devastating. I honestly don't get why some people don't see that.
I know that that most of the people that don't believe aren't stupid or evil. PLEASE stop, take another look, and reconsider the possibility that global warming is happening now and that there will be grave consequences that we need to understand. Some of us on the other side have done that for years. What if you are wrong? You should at least be able to answer that question - I can.

WASHINGTON - More ominous signs Wednesday have scientists saying that a global warming "tipping point" in the Arctic seems to be happening before their eyes: Sea ice in the Arctic Ocean is at its second lowest level in about 30 years.

Arctic ice always melts in summer and refreezes in winter. But over the years, more of the ice is lost to the sea with less of it recovered in winter. While ice reflects the sun's heat, the open ocean absorbs more heat and the melting accelerates warming in other parts of the world.

Within "five to less than 10 years," the Arctic could be free of sea ice in the summer, said NASA ice scientist Jay Zwally.

Five climate scientists, four of them specialists on the Arctic, told The Associated Press that it is fair to call what is happening in the Arctic a "tipping point." NASA scientist James Hansen, who sounded the alarm about global warming 20 years ago before Congress, said the sea ice melt "is the best current example" of that.

While she was "flying" down the road yesterday, a woman passed over a bridge only to find a cop with a radar gun on the other side lying in wait.

The cop pulled her over, walked up to the car, with that classic patronizing smirk we all know and love, asked, "What's your hurry?"

To which she replied, "I'm late for work."

"Oh yeah," said the cop, "what do you do?"

I'm a rectum stretcher," she responded.

The cop stammered, "A what? A rectum stretcher?

And just what does a rectum stretcher do?"

"Well," she said, "I start by inserting one finger, then work my way up to two fingers, then three, then four, then with my whole hand in. I work from side to side until I can get both hands in, and then I slowly but surely stretch it, until it's about 6 feet wide."

So what does one do with thousands of bicycles? Igor Kenk’s record-setting collection have sparked myriad theories, ranging from the obvious: that he was planning to resell them all eventually in his used bicycle shop, to the eccentric: that he was saving them to melt them down during the next spike in scrap metal prices or was hording them for the eventual energy apocalypse.

Igor’s operation alone might explain most of Toronto’s reputation for being the capital of bike theft in North America. His shop was so filled with bicycles that police had to take out second floor windows and lower the bikes out them. Clearly this collection has been growing for a very long time. His shop even had a reputation as the place to go to buy back your stolen bike - but no one knew for sure that he was the one stealing them. Rumor has it he was waiting for a big energy crisis where the world as we know it would come to an end and he could make a killing reselling the rest.

A tool that automatically steals IDs of non-encrypted sessions and breaks into Google Mail accounts has been presented at the Defcon hackers’ conference in Las Vegas.

Last week Google introduced a new feature in Gmail that allows users to permanently switch on SSL and use it for every action involving Gmail, and not only, authentication. users who did not turn it on now have a serious reason to do so as Mike Perry, the reverse engineer from San Francisco who developed the tool is planning to release it in two weeks.

If you are logging in to your Gmail account from different locations and you would like to benefit from this option only when you are using unsecured networks, you can force it by manually typing https://mail.google.com before you log in. This will access the SSL version of Gmail and it will be persistent over your entire session and not only during authentication.

Chinese authorities had sentenced two women in their 70s to a year's ''re-education through labour'' after they applied to hold a protest demonstration during the Beijing Olympic Games, a relative of one of them said yesterday.

Officials said this week they had not approved a single permit for a demonstration, despite designating three parks as protest zones.

The International Olympic Committee's communications director said she would look at the women's case, but stressed the Games were ''not a panacea for all ills''.

On Sunday the two women received an order dated July 30 from Beijing's Re-education Through Labour Commission, sentencing them to one year for ''disturbing the public order''.

It places restrictions on their movements and warns that if they breach any of the requirements they will be sent to a labour camp.

The system does not require formal hearings or allow appeals.

Mr Li said the women were now at home under the observation of a neighbourhood committee.

My human will never let me eat her pet rat, and I am at peace with that.

I will not puff my entire body to twice its size for no reason after my human has finished watching a horror movie.

When my human is taking a bubble bath, the two pinkish-brown things sticking up out of the bubbles in her chest region are NOT to be played with!

I will not use the bathtub to store live mice for late-night snacks.

I will not teach the parrot to meow in a loud and raucous manner.

I will not speed dial the overseas numbers.

I will not put a live vole in my food bowl and expect it to stay there until I get hungry.

I will not eat spider plants and hallucinate behind the toilet.

Any critter that lives in the house (hamsters) stay in the house and any wild critters (frogs and earthworms) stay outside. I am not allowed to set the hamster free in exchange for finding a frog to put in the fish tank.

Birds do not come from the bird feeder. I will not knock it down and try to open it up to get the birds out.
