In June, an Indian judge agreed, using BEOS to find a woman guilty of killing her former fiancé. Scientific experts are calling the decision 'ridiculous' and 'unconscionable,' protesting that Mukundan's work has not even been peer reviewed. How reliable should a test have to be, when eyewitnesses are notoriously fallible? Does a person have a right to privacy over their own memories, or should society's interest in holding criminals accountable come first?"

"Perfect" iTunes equalizer setting

I noticed a lot of people are favoriting this screen grab of the “Perfect” iTunes equalizer setting (I posted it to Flickr, so I won’t keep forgetting it when I need it).

Ever since I saw this in that Mac OS X Hints article, I’ve used it as my default equalizer in iTunes — it seems to give a nice pop to MP3 tracks in particular.

HOWTO and specific settings from the original article:

Open the equalizer, and from the pop-up menu, select “Make Preset.” Call it “Perfect,” because it is, and set the following levels, from left to right (skip the Preamp section):

db +3, +6, +9, +7, +6, +5, +7, +9, +11, +8 db

Former state titleholder advances on American Idol

Murray was one of four contestants chosen by the judges during Thursday night's Wild Card competition.

Miss Pennsylvania Pageant Under Way In Harmar

Winner Moves On To Miss America Competition In Vegas

A new Miss Pennsylvania will be crowned for 2009 in the annual pageant, which is being held this weekend in Allegheny County.

Last year's winner was Kendria Perry, a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz School of Public Policy and Management.

Miss Pennsylvania will represent the state at the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas in January.

The Miss Pennsylvania pageant moved to Allegheny County for 2009 after being held for many years in the Lehigh Valley region in Nazareth, Pa.

The Miss Universe GB competition is organised by Vibe Models and will take place in May 2010 at a location in Birmingham. Around 50 women from England, Scotland and Wales will compete for the coveted title. Proceeds from the competition will go to The Joshua Foundation.

To apply to enter the Miss Universe GB competition you must:

- Be British and a resident of England, Scotland or Wales
- Be between 18-27 years old
- Be free to take part in Miss Universe (if you win Miss Universe GB)
- Never have been married or have had children

- Should not be a current holder of another recognised British title

Please note: If you are lucky enough to reach the final of Miss Universe GB, you will be expected to generate £500 sponsorship. The deadline for entries is Tuesday 1 December 2009.

Winning Miss Tennessee was a dream come true for Miss Hamilton County Stefanie Wittler, who tried out for the title three times.

"I'm just overwhelmed with honor and excitement," Wittler said. "This was my third shot. I was so honored to be back. I can't wait to use this title across Tennessee and get to work.

Wittler, 22, won a $10,000 scholarship and will be the new spokeswoman for Gov. Phil Bredesen's Safe and Drug-Free Tennessee program.
