This racist and sexist balderdash that’s the New Yorker cover fits squarely into that definition. So, honestly, does the behavior of my partner, who prides himself on coming from a California family of educators who taught him to be colorblind and on working at a magazine renown for being, well, urbane, witty, educated, liberal, and trendy yet likes to view me as the Angry Negress.

Tags: new yorker, obama, cover, racism, hipster

<clipSource>http://www.racialicious.com/2008/07/14/the-new-yorker-and-hipster-racism/</clipSource>

Scary & stupid but hey it is kind of cool

clipped by: missmartini
clipper's remarks: My friend shared this with me. If you had put an extra $1,200 in your kindergartner's

college fund this year, it would be worth $2,263 by the time she heads to college. That assumes a pretty conservative 5% growth rate.

So, there's plenty of incentive to figure out how to save that extra $100 every month. To get you started, here's a list of savings ideas that don't

require any major lifestyle changes. You may have to do a little research, but you won't have to sacrifice your morning jolt of caffeine. Combine a few and

you might hit $100 in savings without doing much at all.

• Contribute an extra 1% of your salary to your 401(k) or other workplace retirement plan. Because the money is withdrawn before taxes, you'll lose less than 1% from your take-home pay. You'll probably never even notice the money's gone, but your retirement fund will start to fatten up faster.

Tags: finances, motley fool, saving, money

<clipSource>http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/105011/Save-in-Small-Bites</clipSource>

The Cans Festival - check it out if you are in London

clipped by: missmartini
clipper's remarks: I read about this a couple of days ago and thought I would look it up. How could would it be to witness this? My brother used to do a lot of graffiti art when he was younger and now is getting back into it. When I was in San Diego last, we went and checked out a park that is set aside for graffiti artists. It was pretty amazing some of the stuff out there. Better to have the kids hanging out there then getting arrested or getting into other kinds of trouble.

Clip Source: www.thecansfestival.com

Tags: graffiti, cans, festival, london, 2008

<clipSource>http://www.thecansfestival.com/</clipSource>

Home of the Sleazy Sound

clipped by: missmartini
clipper's remarks: I am digging this site! Highly sought after for its Beatnik themed flip side which has made it onto several compilations over the years, here at tittyshakers.com it's the lesser known flip side which is the highly coveted side for its outrageously dirty horns and slinky melody. Recorded some time around 1960, if anyone should ask you "what's a tittyshaker?" then this could be the 45 you play them. At the moment this is my number one tittyshaker 45 of all time.

Tags: music, site, sleazy, good stuff, ilike

<clipSource>http://www.tittyshakers.com/jukejoint1.htm</clipSource>
