Dr. Qing-Bin Lu, of Canada’s University of Waterloo, says NASA satellites and laboratory measurements show cosmic rays are the real cause of the seasonal hole in the earth’s ozone layer over the Antarctic.

Dr. LU says the severest ozone loss will occur over the South Pole this month — with another large ozone-triggered hole occurring around 2019.

If the South Pole gets an ozone-hole maximum in the coming weeks, it will strengthen the case for cosmic rays, and endorse a Modern Warming driven by solar variations rather than human-emitted CO2.

The solar model is already endorsed by oxygen isotopes in ice cores from both Greenland and the Antarctic, by microfossils in the sediments of nine oceans and hundreds of lakes worldwide, and by cave stalagmites from every continent plus New Zealand.

The case for a solar-driven climate is also strengthened by a drop in global temperatures over the past 18 months

forecast by the sunspot index since 2000, but was not predicted by the global climate models.

Friedman quoted a green-collar jobs proponent who said, "You can't base a national economy on credit cards. But you can base it on solar panels, wind turbines, smart biofuels and a massive program to weatherize every building and home in America."

Greens will likely be able to count on Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson to implement their agenda for them.

A recent advertisement by the Al Gore backed we-can-solve-it-dot-organization closes with the claim that it has been “approved” by “the American people.” No, it hasn’t. Count me out. I demand it.

The reason is contained in the very text of the ad. It opens with a child playing with building blocks, and says, “The solution to our climate crisis seems simple; repower America with wind and solar.” (Emphasis mine) “Seems” is a great word for Mr. Gore’s message. It does seem quite simple to think that all we need to do is build more solar collectors and wind farms, and viola! Energy independence! That seems wonderfully simple. And the “we/me” simply has to demand it, and it will be so.

Mr. Gore’s group. Want “green” jobs? Just demand them… from the government, no less. Want energy independence in ten years? Just demand it… from the government, again. Why not avoid the middle-man and demand an end to global warming from the deity? (There’s not much money to be made in that endeavor.)

But his usual fired-up remarks on the subject took a step into the Gandhian realm on Wednesday when he told an audience at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York that the crisis was so severe and intractable that it was time for direct action.

Statistical Ghost "Proves" Global Warming = A Political Hoax

clipper's remarks: Ok, two days ago I published a report on the data called The All Important Blade of the Stick Uses Less Than 5% of the Data. This report detailed what I consider powerful evidence that Mann and his group may have intentionally manipulated data in creating this paper. I don’t say this lightly.

It is very clear that the proxies, which no one is sure represent temperature, were in fact extended using questionable statistics and then correlated to demonstrate that they match measured temperature. The addition of an up slope to 90% of the data was pasted on according to less than 5% of the data. I am very suspicious that this 5% was chosen specifically because of its up slope in recent times. Think about that only 55 series determined the outcome of the majority of the 1209 series data!!

What this says, in no-Geek english, is Mann, et al cherry picked 5% of the data to feed into their models, apparently because that 5% would provide the impression of serious global warming. To prove this the scientists plots the models with the selected 5% and then all the rejected data sets. Low and behold - no global warming. Here’s the graph (larger image here):

The blue line is the selected data sets, the purple the rejected. Are we to believe coincidence alone was able to create two views of the global climate - one where there is a crisis in warming and one where there is not? From the linked report here is the conclusion of the statistical analysis:

I seriously doubt this extraordinary dichotomoy of the 5% selected and the 95% ignored was accidental. Which means we may have discovered a concerted effort to doctor scientific data in order to try and induce panic and fear across the global community

Now that has got to be the scam of all scams right there!

Contrary to what some conspiracy theorists would have you believe, there is no cabal of oil companies and foreign governments blocking the way, bottling up U.S. oil production. The reality is much more mundane. Those untapped reserves are located in places that either Uncle Sam has put off-limits for environmental reasons or are too costly to get -- or a combination of both.

Given current sky-high prices for crude oil and the likelihood that oil prices will remain high -- at or above $100 a barrel -- for the foreseeable future, it is now economically viable to tap some of those reserves. But environmental concerns -- ranging from preservation of pristine lands to worries about increasing the use of fossil fuels and accelerating global climate change -- remain a hurdle.

Fears over a potential energy shortage from Hurricane Ike has caused a buying panic and forced Gov. Bob Riley to declare a state of emergency to allow price-gouging laws to take effect.

Rumors surfaced yesterday that gas prices could go as high as $5 a gallon for gas and that gas shortages could occur, but AAA spokesperson Clay Ingram said those fears are exaggerated. He said some stations might sell gasoline for $5 a gallon, but there will be many gas stations that might sell gas for $1 less per gallon.

“It all depends on how each service station purchases its gasoline supply,” Ingram said.

According to Ingram, the nation’s fuel supply has been reduced to 60 to 80 percent of normal. The decrease in supply has caused the increase in the wholesale price despite the price of crude oil dropping below $100 a barrel yesterday for the first time in five months.

clipper's remarks: Blamed for about one-fifth of the world’s greenhouse gases, meat production produces the ever-popular methane gas from the flatulence of cattle–something these vegetarians like to say is much worse for the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.

Aren’t you merely speculating at best putting forth such bold statements about meat and global warming without any real evidence that makes your point? How can a group like the United Nations stand behind such an extreme position when the foundation for it is so incredibly suspect?

Dr. Pachauri spoke at an event held by an animal rights group called Compassion in World Farming which has called on the people of Great Britain to cut their meat consumption in half to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by even more than if they cut their driving in half. In fact, they are pushing for governments around the world to mandate a reduction of meat consumption by upwards of 60 percent by the year 2020. Well, yippee freakin’ skippy!

UN Climate Change chair Dr. Rajendra Pachauri says no more meat for you!

It was mildly amusing last year when I blogged about Dr. Dean Ornish’s PETA-based front group Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) pointing the finger at meat eating as a reason for global warming.

He is recently-reelected UN Climate Change chair and Indian economist Dr. Rajendra Pachauri (somebody give this guy a toupee or something for that comb over!) and it should come as no surprise that he is a vegetarian. His group at the UN shared the Nobel Peace Prize last year with the equally kooky Al Gore who has made it his life’s mission to spread this global warming farce for the rest of his life no matter what kind of shaky evidence there is for it. We’ll leave the discussion of the validity of global warming to the political blogs, but let’s dig deeper into this business that meat is a contributing factor in climate change.

Nancy Pelosi says that she is trying to save the planet and prevent global warming, but the reality is that, according to disclosure statements, in May 2007 she invested in T. Boone Picken’s clean energy fuels corp., CLNE, which is the sole sponsor of a proposal in California to funnel $5 billion in state funds and $5 billion in Federal funs to this corporation which will indirectly help them create a giant wind farm in the Texas panhandle.

An overlooked story in November of 2007 shows that the T. Boone Pickens plan involves the private control of water, which Pickens wants to be able to sell to big cities via giant water pipelines which will be built on land seized under eminent domain.

How did he do this? He did this by pushing through a “water district” which consists of only 8 acres of land and then applying eminent domain to expand that district and seize land from local ranchers which, in the end, puts vital water resources under his private control.

Computer Models Suggests Mid-West Droughts...Oops

Of course, today these alarmists are pointing at the floods in the Midwest and saying, “I told you so, here is proof of global warming.” In that case, what isn’t proof of global warming, and how does one go about debating these sorts of incongruities? Unfortunately, the media and politicians have not done a good enough job of making prophets account for their past errant prophetic utterances. Instead, they accept as fact whatever dubious claims Hansen and Gore happen to be making at the moment.

While doing some research, I came across an article in the NY Times headlined “U.S. Data Since 1895 Fail to Show Warming Trend,” which was written in 1991.

Dr. James E. Hansen and then-Senator Al Gore were both present in the piece. The article noted that Hansen’s study says (as of 1991), “average global temperatures have risen by nearly 1 degree Fahrenheit in this century and that the average temperatures in the 1980’s are the highest on record.”

This all sounds like a broken record now, but one particular sentenced grabbed my attention: “Many of the computer models that predict global warming also predict that certain areas, including the Midwest in the United States, would suffer more frequent droughts.”

This statement creates problems for today’s alarmists, who insist that models can be trusted, even though the models have been highly inaccurate. Some sixteen years after the article was printed, the Midwest has experienced floods the last two summers.

Lord Nelson and Captain Cook Logs Have Cast New Light on Climate Change

Many scientists believe that storms are caused by global warming, but these were during the so-called Little Ice Age that affected Europe from about 1600 to 1850.

The records also suggest that Europe saw a spell of rapid warming, similar to that experienced today, during the 1730s that must have been caused naturally.

"British archives contain more than 100,000 Royal Navy logbooks from around 1670 to 1850 alone," Mr Wheeler said. "They are a stunning resource".

Every Royal Naval ship kept a detailed record of climate including air pressure, wind strength, air and sea temperature and major meteorological disturbances.

A group of academics and Met Office scientists has unearthed the records dating from the 1600s and examined more than 6,000 logs, which have provided one of the world's best sources for long-term weather data.

Their studies have raised questions about modern climate change theories

They would have you believe that until eight years ago, when a certain Republican became President of the United States, the country had never experienced hurricanes, tornadoes, extremely high and low temperatures, and floods. The weather has been calm for the billions of years of the earth's existence and then suddenly, boom! The weather's out of control. AND we can make the weather not be out of control (i.e., if we elect a certain Democrat president.)

Really, this article is an absolute embarrassment in every way. A DNC press release couldn't be more biased. There is positively nothing the least bit objective about this article. It's a string of hysterical [yes, I can use it] unsubstantiated Democrat talking points.

Everything Seemingly Is Spinning out of Control / Out-of-control weather, gas prices, economy chip away at American self-confidence

Are you f'ing kidding me??? First of all, I'm no journalism major, but how can you use a word like "seemingly" in the body, let alone title, of an objective news story?

Second, I'll admit that gas prices and the economy are politically fair game, but out-of-control weather? The only way weather could be considered a political issue is if you are an anti-capitalist (read: anti-Republican) shill for the man-made global warming hysteria crowd (read: pro-Democrat).

Here's the first paragraph of the "report." It reads like a litany of lefty grievances repeated by virtually every Dem since McGovern.

Midwestern levees are bursting. Polar bears are adrift. Gas prices are skyrocketing. Home values are abysmal. Air fares, college tuition and health care border on unaffordable. Wars without end rage in Iraq, Afghanistan and against terrorism.
