He’s using $300 million to fund his efforts. Does that say something about what Mr. Gore might gain from the group’s demands? It seems simple to me. How about you?

A recent advertisement by the Al Gore backed we-can-solve-it-dot-organization closes with the claim that it has been “approved” by “the American people.” No, it hasn’t. Count me out. I demand it.

The reason is contained in the very text of the ad. It opens with a child playing with building blocks, and says, “The solution to our climate crisis seems simple; repower America with wind and solar.” (Emphasis mine) “Seems” is a great word for Mr. Gore’s message. It does seem quite simple to think that all we need to do is build more solar collectors and wind farms, and viola! Energy independence! That seems wonderfully simple. And the “we/me” simply has to demand it, and it will be so.

Mr. Gore’s group. Want “green” jobs? Just demand them… from the government, no less. Want energy independence in ten years? Just demand it… from the government, again. Why not avoid the middle-man and demand an end to global warming from the deity? (There’s not much money to be made in that endeavor.)

And almost as soon as the words “civil disobedience” were out of his mouth, Mr. Clinton, moderating a panel that Mr. Gore shared with the singer Bono, the president of Liberia, the chairman of Coca-Cola and Queen Rania of Jordan, turned to the queen to ask whether Middle Eastern countries might ever become “models of clean energy usage.” The discussion continued in a less-fiery vein from there.

Al Gore, the former vice president and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, is nothing if not passionate on the issue of global warming. But his usual fired-up remarks on the subject took a step into the Gandhian realm on Wednesday when he told an audience at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York that the crisis was so severe and intractable that it was time for direct action.

Mr. Gore said the civil disobedience should focus on “stopping the construction of new coal plants,” which he said would add tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere — despite “half a billion dollars’ worth of advertising by the coal and gas industry” claiming otherwise. 100 years ahead," crowed one climate change sceptic. "Thousands of green militants have been using the Lehman report as a proof of global warming and impending chaos. Lehman Bros said it! Sacred words!"

LEHMAN Brothers' collapse sent shockwaves through global markets, but not all are lamenting the demise of the 158-year-old Wall Street bank. Emails buzzed between the world's climate change sceptics on news of Lehman's fall - the bank played a big role in what the radical right thinks is a climate change scam.

The reason for the excitement was Lehman's role in carbon trading. Al Gore's carbon trading business, Generation Investment Management, which he founded with former Goldman Sachs executive David Blood, banked with Lehman. Just what effect the Lehman bankruptcy has on Blood and Gore's balance sheet is yet to be revealed.

Lehman reports from last year have been central to convincing governments, media and business of the need for a global carbon trading scheme to limit greenhouse gas emissions. In them, Lehman Brothers makes predictions about the climate in 2100, provides projections for climate change costs and suggests possible trends in the carbon market for the next 50 years

clipper's remarks: Blamed for about one-fifth of the world’s greenhouse gases, meat production produces the ever-popular methane gas from the flatulence of cattle–something these vegetarians like to say is much worse for the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.

Aren’t you merely speculating at best putting forth such bold statements about meat and global warming without any real evidence that makes your point? How can a group like the United Nations stand behind such an extreme position when the foundation for it is so incredibly suspect?

Dr. Pachauri spoke at an event held by an animal rights group called Compassion in World Farming which has called on the people of Great Britain to cut their meat consumption in half to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by even more than if they cut their driving in half. In fact, they are pushing for governments around the world to mandate a reduction of meat consumption by upwards of 60 percent by the year 2020. Well, yippee freakin’ skippy!

UN Climate Change chair Dr. Rajendra Pachauri says no more meat for you!

It was mildly amusing last year when I blogged about Dr. Dean Ornish’s PETA-based front group Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) pointing the finger at meat eating as a reason for global warming.

He is recently-reelected UN Climate Change chair and Indian economist Dr. Rajendra Pachauri (somebody give this guy a toupee or something for that comb over!) and it should come as no surprise that he is a vegetarian. His group at the UN shared the Nobel Peace Prize last year with the equally kooky Al Gore who has made it his life’s mission to spread this global warming farce for the rest of his life no matter what kind of shaky evidence there is for it. We’ll leave the discussion of the validity of global warming to the political blogs, but let’s dig deeper into this business that meat is a contributing factor in climate change.

clipper's remarks: Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis hammered Obama for his insistence on auto job-killing, mandated fuel-mileage standards (so-called CAFE laws). "That shows how out of touch he is with Michigan voters," thundered Anuzis. "He's pandering to San Francisco liberals and environmentalists who would just as soon we not have cars."

Yet, those words of support only highlight McCain’s similarities to Obama. On CAFE, for example, McCain himself has been no friend to the auto industry. In 2002, he co-sponsored a bill with John Kerry hiking mileage mandates by 30 percent — a proposal that ultimately became law last year over loud Big 3 protests. On drilling, McCain quickly steps on his message of “oil independence” by opposing drilling in ANWR — just as his opponent does.

As for nuclear power, McCain’s strategy has serious flaws — beginning with the fact that the candidate doesn’t seem to know the difference between electricity and motor fuel.

The Democratic nominee-in-waiting arrived for his speech outlining our post-oil, post-SUV future in three gigantic, gas-guzzling SUVs. Then — taking a cue from Al Gore — Obama mounted the stage to declare a ten-year goal of ending our “addiction to oil” . . . or at least the oil from “the entire Middle East and Venezuela”

He promised $4 billion in guaranteed loans for U.S. auto companies, which sounded impressive until CAR’s Cole reminded a Detroit News reporter that General Motors just lost $15 billion in the second quarter alone.

Perhaps most intriguing was Obama’s proposed wealth transfer from one fossil-fuel giant to another: Big Oil to Big Auto.

As punishment Obama proposes a windfall profit tax on Big Oil that will, in part, go to “helping the auto industry re-tool.”

Computer Models Suggests Mid-West Droughts...Oops

Of course, today these alarmists are pointing at the floods in the Midwest and saying, “I told you so, here is proof of global warming.” In that case, what isn’t proof of global warming, and how does one go about debating these sorts of incongruities? Unfortunately, the media and politicians have not done a good enough job of making prophets account for their past errant prophetic utterances. Instead, they accept as fact whatever dubious claims Hansen and Gore happen to be making at the moment.

While doing some research, I came across an article in the NY Times headlined “U.S. Data Since 1895 Fail to Show Warming Trend,” which was written in 1991.

Dr. James E. Hansen and then-Senator Al Gore were both present in the piece. The article noted that Hansen’s study says (as of 1991), “average global temperatures have risen by nearly 1 degree Fahrenheit in this century and that the average temperatures in the 1980’s are the highest on record.”

This all sounds like a broken record now, but one particular sentenced grabbed my attention: “Many of the computer models that predict global warming also predict that certain areas, including the Midwest in the United States, would suffer more frequent droughts.”

This statement creates problems for today’s alarmists, who insist that models can be trusted, even though the models have been highly inaccurate. Some sixteen years after the article was printed, the Midwest has experienced floods the last two summers.

Americans for Prosperity have another global-warming hypocrisy moment for voters. Earlier this month, they caught Al Gore riding in big limousines left idling outside of the venue for his speech on energy conservation and emissions cuts. Today, they show Barack Obama using the kind of cars that he insists the rest of us have to eschew:

As the graphics concede, the Secret Service selects the vehicles used by the candidates in most cases. Sports-utility vehicles give better protection to the occupants and have the kind of power that allows them to quickly get out of an area when trouble develops. No one really resents Obama’s use of these vehicles for his safety and the safety of his family — but the rest of us would like to make that choice for ourselves as well.

General Electric And Al Gore $cheme To Undermine Domestic Drilling

clipper's remarks: GE stubbornly adheres to climate change alarmism because it has placed a huge financial bet on carbon-free energy sources, such as wind, that are threatened by domestic oil production. Climate change fears and tight oil supplies are the driving force for renewable energy. Increasing the supply of oil will reduce its price, making wind power even less competitive, even with generous government subsidies.

GE CEO Jeff Immelt, already in hot water for poor stock performance, can't afford to lose his gamble on renewable energy.

Faced with this threat, Immelt is shrewdly using his NBC news empire to promote climate change fears and wind turbines as a sound energy alternative.

For economic and national security reasons Americans desperately need natural resource development in our own backyard.

Al Gore was the featured guest on NBC's "Meet the Press" on July 20. For almost the entire program, Gore spoke about climate change, bashed oil exploration and touted his idea to generate the country's electricity needs from carbon-free sources, including wind turbines. Gore did support the use of coal, but only if it was associated with carbon capture and sequestration -- another GE technology.

GE's cable business channel CNBC has also promoted wind energy in its news programming. T. Boone Pickens was given air time on "Squawk Box," CNBC's early morning news program, to present his energy plan. A major thrust of the Pickens plan involves a significant increase in the use of natural gas and wind -- two areas in which Pickens has major investments. Indeed, Pickens is building the world's largest wind farm in Texas, and his company recently ordered about $2 billion worth of GE turbines.

The scheming of Immelt and Gore undermine our national interest.

clipper's remarks: I checked with Peiser, who said he had done no such thing. I then corrected the Wikipedia entry, and advised Peiser that I had done so.

Peiser wrote back saying he couldn’t see my corrections on the Wikipedia page. I made the changes again, and this time confirmed that the changes had been saved. But then, in a twinkle, they were gone again. I made other changes. And others. They all disappeared shortly after they were made.

Turns out that on Wikipedia some folks are more equal than others. Kim Dabelstein Petersen is a Wikipedia “editor” who seems to devote a large part of his life to editing reams and reams of Wikipedia pages to pump the assertions of global-warming alarmists and deprecate or make disappear the arguments of skeptics.

Holding the far more prestigious and powerful position of “administrator” is William Connolley. Connolley, a ruthless enforcer of the doomsday consensus, may be the world’s most influential person in the global warming debate after Al Gore.

I first noticed this when I entered a correction to a Wikipedia page on the work of Naomi Oreskes, author of the now-infamous paper, published in the prestigious journal Science, claiming to have exhaustively reviewed the scientific literature and found not one single article dissenting from the alarmist version of global warming.

Of course Oreskes’s conclusions were absurd, and have been widely ridiculed. I myself have profiled dozens of truly world-eminent scientists whose work casts doubt on the Gore-U.N. version of global warming. Following the references in my book The Deniers, one can find hundreds of refereed papers that cast doubt on some aspect of the Gore/U.N. case, and that only scratches the surface.

Naturally I was surprised to read on Wikipedia that Oreskes’s work had been vindicated and that, for instance, one of her most thorough critics, British scientist and publisher Bennie Peiser, not only had been discredited but had grudgingly conceded Oreskes was right.

Group Of US Mayors Calling For An Import Ban On Canadian Oil

The concept is still relatively unknown to most people outside of the province. Using cutting edge thinking and current technology oil is separated from sand dug out of the ground. The oilsands have always been here, but it has only been in the last while that the technology existed that would allow this kind of process.

The enviroNazi movement in the Great White North, led by Canada’s national Nature Boy and our answer to Al Gore, David Suzuki, has long had it’s crosshairs on Alberta’s Progressive Conservative government and what is perceived as their lack of environmental concern and pro-business bias.

Now, the latest attack on Alberta’s oil industry has come from outside our borders. The simmering of negative press in the United States has been blown up into a full fire with a recent resolution passed by group of U.S. mayors, laughably calling for an import ban on our province’s oil.

History has shown an unfortunate flaw of the Canadian mindset that says that when the oil-rich, good-ol’-boy Western Canadian province of Alberta enjoys a lucrative economic boom, the rest of Canada spends its time and energy devising different methods to get their grubby hands on the cash, the province’s economy be damned.

Ottawa’s attempts at our wealth aren’t new, and Albertans have long memories. Pierre Trudeau effectively killed Alberta’s economy for more than a decade with his memorable attempt, sold as ‘necessary to stabilize prices’.

The resulting economic collapse still stings in the memory of our citizens. One mention of the National Energy Program (N.E.P.) is as offensive to some patriotic Albertans as the term Nazi is to some older generation Germans.

The latest attack on Alberta’s current wave of prosperity is something of an old nemesis dressed in a new costume. The environment has long been the excuse for attacks against Alberta’s oil industry

You Can't Fool All of the People All of the Time

In response to skyrocketing gas prices, liberals say, practically in unison, "We can't drill our way out of this crisis."

What does it mean? Finding more oil isn't going to increase the supply of oil?

It is the typical Democratic strategy to babble meaningless slogans, as if they have a plan. Their plan is: the permanent twilight of the human race.

Liberals complain that -- as Obama put it -- there's "no way that allowing offshore drilling would lower gas prices right now. At best you are looking at five years or more down the road."This is as opposed to airplanes that run on woodchips, which should be up and running any moment now.

Clinton proposed a 26-cent tax on gas. John Kerry said it should be 50 cents. Gore endorsed the Malthusian proposal of Paul and Anne Ehrlich in "The Population Explosion"

Say, you know what we need? We need a class of people paid to anticipate national crises and plan solutions in advance.

If only we had had such a group -- let's call them "elected representatives" -- they could have proposed drilling five years ago!

But of course we do pay people to anticipate national problems and propose solutions. Some of them -- we'll call them Republicans -- did anticipate high gas prices and propose solutions.

Six long years ago President Bush had the foresight to demand that Congress allow drilling in a minuscule portion of the Alaska's barren, uninhabitable Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). In 2002, Bush, Tom DeLay and the entire Republican Party were screaming from the rooftops: Drill! Drill! Drill!

We'd be gushing oil now -- except the Democrats stopped us from drilling.

The other party -- plus John McCain -- ferociously opposed drilling in ANWR, drilling offshore or drilling anyplace else.
