Good points.

Funny that the protests against religious expression never occur until a couple weeks or so after a tragedy like this. More than that you never see an atheist offering a shoulder to those who are suffering. These folk scatter faster at the outset of tragedy, when man's natural inclination is to turn to God, than do roaches at a the turning of a light switch. Suppose they are seeking similar dark corners?

Clip Source: newsbloggers.aol.com

Notice something interesting about the aftermath of the Virginia Tech shootings? Atheists are nowhere to be found. Every time there is a public gathering there is talk of God and divine mercy and spiritual healing. Even secular people like the poet Nikki Giovanni use language that is heavily drenched with religious symbolism and meaning.

To no one's surprise, Dawkins has not been invited to speak to the grieving Virginia Tech community. What this tells me is that if it's difficult to know where God is when bad things happen, it is even more difficult for atheism to deal with the problem of evil. The reason is that in a purely materialist universe, immaterial things like good and evil and souls simply do not exist. For scientific atheists like Dawkins, Cho's shooting of all those people can be understood in this way--molecules acting upon molecules.

If this is the best that modern science has to offer us, I think we need something more than modern science.

Tags: christianity, virginia tech

<clipSource>http://newsbloggers.aol.com/2007/04/18/where-is-atheism-when-bad-things-happen/</clipSource>

Success

clipped by: willhelm

Clip Source: www.12-steps.org

The LAPD, the FBI and the CIA are all trying to prove that they are the best at apprehending criminals. The President decides to give them a test. He releases a rabbit into a forest and each of them has to catch it.

The CIA goes in. They place animal informants throughout the forest. They question all plant and mineral witnesses. After three months of extensive investigation, they conclude that rabbits do not exist.

The FBI goes in. After two weeks with no leads, they burn the forest, killing everything in it — including the rabbit — and make no apologies. “The rabbit had it coming.”

The LAPD goes in. They come out two hours later with a badly beaten bear. The bear is yelling, “Okay, okay, I’m a rabbit, I’m a rabbit.”

5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid that is the intermediate step between

tryptophan and the important brain chemical serotonin. There is a massive amount of

evidence that suggests that low serotonin levels are a common consequence of modern

living. The lifestyle and dietary practices of many people living in this stress-filled

era results in lowered levels of serotonin within the brain. As a result, many people are

overweight, crave sugar and other carbohydrates, experience bouts of depression, get

frequent headaches, and have vague muscle aches and pain. All of these maladies are

correctable by raising brain serotonin levels.

Conditions associated with low serotonin

That membrane is made of lipids and proteins.

Heimburg and Jackson theorize that sound propagation is a much more likely explanation. Although sound waves usually weaken as they spread out, a medium with the right physical properties could create a special kind of sound pulse or "soliton" that can propagate without spreading or losing strength.

Tags: science, research, electricity, brain, sound, soliton

<clipSource>http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2007/03/09/science-nervessound-20070309.html</clipSource>

Free web page password revealing utility!

clipped by: Rashid Malik
clipper's remarks: Useful utility for special occasions!

Clip Source: rashidmalik.5gbfree.com

AsterWin IE v1.03

When you login into a web site with user name and password, you sometimes have the option to store the password in your computer. If you choose to save the password, in the next time that we’ll visit this site, the password field will be automatically filled with your password, but you won’t be able to view it, because the password-box shows the password as sequence of asterisks (****).
This utility reveals the passwords stored behind the asterisks in the web pages of Internet Explorer 5.0 and above. You can use it for recovering a lost web site password, if it’s stored on your computer.

Using AsterWin IE

Type your login name.
