IMHO The last good version of ACDsee was version 3. The best picture manager now is Picasa.

Adobe Reader has always been rubbish. Version 4 does run faster, but FoxIt Reader is the better alternative.

Safety experts for the Food and Drug Administration urged the agency on Friday to consider an outright ban on over-the-counter, multisymptom cough and cold medicines for children under 6.

The recommendation, in a 356-page safety review, is the strongest signal yet that the agency may take strong action against the roughly 800 popular medicines marketed in the United States under names like Toddler’s Dimetapp, Triaminic Infant and Little Colds.

The reviewers wrote that there is little evidence that these medicines are effective in young children, and there are increasing fears that they may be dangerous. From 1969 to 2006, at least 54 children died after taking decongestants, and 69 died after taking antihistamines, the report said.

Having put less than a cup of stew into the omelette maker, I decided to try pouring a little bit of instant biscuit dough over it, just to see what would happen. After cooking on high in the microwave for two minutes, I opened the lid and found that the dough had puffed up beautifully. We had two perfect servings of Impossible Pie ready to eat in an eyeblink. After that, I started using the omelette pan for other quick biscuit-topped entrees.

Beautifully steamed dumplings, straight from the microwave oven!

The dumplings were fluffy, but moist.

I've tried cooking quite a few foods other than eggs in them because they are so handy in ensuring portion control and because the hinged lid is perfect for venting foods which need to release a bit of steam when cooking. They are the right size, stay relatively cool to the touch, clean up easily and do not splatter the inside of the oven.

Limits Sought for Waiting Time on Planes

Airlines should be required to limit how long passengers have to wait out travel delays inside an airplane on the ground before being allowed to get off, the Transportation Department inspector general recommended Tuesday.

The recommendations follows two horrendous weather-related incidents last winter in which hundreds of passengers were confined aboard jetliners on airport tarmac for up to 10 1/2 hours.

Last Dec. 29, lightning storms and a tornado warning shut down the Dallas-Fort Worth airport several times causing American Airlines to divert more than 100 flights and stranding many of those passengers on board aircraft waiting to take off for as long as 9 hours.

On Feb. 14, snow and ice in the northeast led to JetBlue Airways stranding hundreds of passengers on its planes on the tarmac at New York's Kennedy International for up to 10 1/2 hours.

the Transportation Department said the IG report was "a thorough job ... (that) will help develop our response to this challenge."

The Unity cable has been under development for several months, with a group of carriers and Google meeting for high-level talks on the plan in Sydney last week. (...)

Communications Day understands that Unity would see Google join with other carriers to build a new multi-terabit cable. Google would get access to a fibre pair at build cost handing it a tremendous cost advantage over rivals

“I’m a junior and every semester I do the same thing. I go and look up the author and the cost and order the ones that are cheaper online and then go back to the Coop to get the rest,” Zafran said.

The apparent new policy could be a response to efforts by Crimsonreading.org—an online database that allows students to find the books they need for each course at discounted prices from several online booksellers—from writing down the ISBN identification numbers for books at the Coop and then using that information for their Web site.

Murphy said the Coop considers that information the Coop’s intellectual property.

According to UC President Ryan A. Petersen ’08, discussions with an intellectual property lawyer have confirmed Crimson Reading’s position.

ISBN data is similar to phone book listings, which are not protected by intellectual property law, Petersen added. Every book title has a unique ISBN number, short for “international standard book number.”
