Have you ever seen the Senate condemn Saxby Chambless for morphing his Democratic opponent with Osama bin Laden?

Have you ever seen the Senate condemn Ann Coulter for calling for the assassination of a Supreme Court justice?

Have you ever seen the Senate condemn Fred Phelps?

And what about the attacks on General Wesley Clark, or the treatment of General Shinseki? Did they condemn that? Did they even manage to muster up a little outrage over the full-scale attack on anyone who'd ever been awarded a Purple Heart during the 2004 campaign?

No.

But the Republicans call on you to condemn a mainstream organization that tells the truth about Petreaus disgracing the uniform to act as Bush's personal political shill and you fall right in line. How dare you?.

I think I can speak for every Maryland voter when I say we did not vote for you to go to Washington just to condemn your own supporters.

The average American, from my perspective, is overscheduled, undervalued, and so deeply stressed that they don't even have the energy or the will to push away the blinders put in place by our governing body. Why? Is it because they have found value in the valueless? Are the wrong things important?

I say this because I feel that all that we need to do to make this world a little bit more like it should be is to realign our priorities. Treat others as you would like to be treated, you know? Be thoughtful, selfless. Get out of your assigned place in line, peek over the edge of your box and look at the world around you. Your job isn't important, your money is only as important as you allow it to be. People ~ not machines, not numbers, not the latest trends ~ people are what matter, what creates quality of life, and what dictates your ultimate joy.

The Long Gilded Age:

Public policy did little to limit extremes of wealth and poverty, mainly because the political dominance of the elite remained intact; the politics of the era, in which working Americans were divided by racial, religious, and cultural issues, have recognizable parallels with modern politics.

It was a society without extremes of wealth or poverty, a society of broadly shared prosperity, partly because strong unions, a high minimum wage, and a progressive tax system helped limit inequality.

Webb Amendment Goes Down With Only A Majority

Instructive lesson today. Two votes. One supporting our Constitution, which we discussed earlier (restoration of Habeas Corpus) and this second one supporting our troops.

In both cases, the Republicans not only vote against the measures in overwhelming numbers, but obstruct the votes and require not a majority, but 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. Only Sen. Lieberman--who hasn't been a Democrat since he won with Karl Rove's money--was in oppposition (of those caucusing with Dems).

So, in other words, the Republicans hate our freedoms, hate our troops and hate our democracy. And they used a tactic they decried when they were in the majority and whining about "up or down votes" for mental ward patients masquerading as judges. So they are hypocrites too.

Your modern GOP at work.

As part of its campaign to justify a long-term US occupation of Iraq, the Bush administration has increasingly resorted to warning of chaos and even genocide in the wake of a withdrawal of American troops. But a new report suggests that something akin to genocide is already taking place, under American auspices.

The British polling agency ORB reported Thursday that the death toll in Iraq since the 2003 US invasion has passed the one million mark.

Jonas Phillips is the third resident of Asheville, North Carolina to be arrested in recent weeks for displaying a pro-impeachment sign.

Last Wednesday (August 15), Phillips was "standing alone with my [Impeach Bush-Cheney] sign for about 10 minutes, when I was approached by Police Officer Russell Crisp," he recounted. "He asked me how long I was planning to stay there and I told him just a few more minutes because I had to go to work at 8:00. He asked for my ID and I obliged. I asked him if I was doing something wrong, and he said that his Sergeant was on the way and he was going to wait for him. So, I went back to my sign holding over the interstate."

Operation Iraqi Freedom, it turns out, was never a war against Saddam Hussein's Iraq. It was an invasion of the federal budget, and no occupying force in history has ever been this efficient. George W. Bush's war in the Mesopotamian desert was an experiment of sorts, a crude first take at his vision of a fully privatized American government. In Iraq the lines between essential government services and for-profit enterprises have been blurred to the point of absurdity -- to the point where wounded soldiers have to pay retail prices for fresh underwear, where modern-day chattel are imported from the Third World at slave wages to peel the potatoes we once assigned to grunts in KP, where private companies are guaranteed huge profits no matter how badly they fuck things up.

What occured on Sept, 11, 2001 is a matter of facts, physics, and unprecidented violation of national protocol by American officials themselves. Here are 10 points to consider and there are hundreds more.

No steel framed building has ever collapsed before or since 9/11 do to fire.

No official agency (FAA, FBI, or the airlines) has ever released a list of the 9/11 passengers. But within hours, the FBI released a list of the hijackers.

Multiple air-defense drills were planned for the morning of 9/11. These exersises left only 2 fighter jets available to protect the entire north-eastern United States.

Building 7, a 47 story skyscraper and part of the World Trade Center complex, was not struck by a plane but collapsed in 6.5 seconds at 5:20 P.M. on Sept 11th in the exact manner of a controlled demolition.

There was no visible airplane debris where flight 93 supposedly crashed in Pennsylvania–only a smoking hole in the ground, much like a bomb crater.
