(CNN) -- The family of a 20-year-old Brazilian model who is fighting for her life after having her hands and feet amputated have urged her supporters around the world to keep praying for their daughter.

"Continue praying for her. The doctors are doing everything that is humanly possible to save her, but only God can really save your (sic) life," says the most recent post by Renato Lindgren.

Da Costa's boyfriend, Thiago Simoes, told the G1 news Web site that Bridi fell ill on December 30 and was initially misdiagnosed with kidney stones.

When her condition worsened she returned to hospital where doctors determined she was suffering from a severe urinary tract infection.

By then, Bridi was also suffering from septicimea, a blood infection that limited the supply of oxygen to her extremities.

The condition forced doctors to amputate first her hands and then her feet.

Geez!! I cannot remember I have bad memory!!!

Why old people could remember what happened in their childhood but forget recently happened things?

Old memories have already been consolidated in long-term memory, a different area of the brain. New memories are first stored in short-term memory and are later consolidated into long-term memory. One of the areas of the brain that seems to degenerate first in older people and people with other problems, such as alcoholism, are the hippocampus and caudate nucleus, to name a couple, which are in the mid-brain. These structures are associated with short-term memory and consolidating information into long-term memory, which is largely located in the parietal cortex and occipital area. In old age attention and concentration skills also waver (decrease in ability) and these processes have a lot to do with passing memories from short-term to long-term memory.

The mother of the baby born with a tiny foot inside his brain has described his survival as a "miracle", as tests showed that the tumour has not grown back.

Surgeons removed the growth from Sam Esquibel's head days after his birth in October, and the three-month-old boy is now said to be fit and healthy.

New photos of the operation show the blood vessels inside the tumour, which also included other partially-formed body parts including a second foot, a hand and a thigh.

Doctors now believe that the condition was probably a teratoma, a type of tumour that contains hair, teeth, bones and body organs but usually does not occur in the brain.

COURT in Mbarara on Monday dismissed a case of a woman who chopped off the penis of her neighbour.

Angelina Kyomugisha, 37, accused Geoffrey Mugarura of allegedly defiling her 10-year-old daughter in June last year. She had been accused of causing bodily harm to Mugarura.

She said she was weeding her banana plantation and she heard her daughter shouting for help. She rushed to the house and found Mugarura on top of her child.

This, she said, prompted her to chop Mugarura’s genitals and throw it in nearby bush. The crowd searched for the penis for hours in vain.

Later, a dog was seen trying to run away with the organ. Residents chased the dog, recovered the penis and handed it over to the Police. It was later taken to Mbarara Central Police Station as an exhibit. A bleeding Mugarura was rushed to Mbarara Hospital.

He did not regain his manhood because doctors failed to re-attach it. The stump was refashioned so that he can pass urine.

The World Meteorological Organization says cold weather does not mean that global warming has abated. WMO says people should not confuse weather with climate.

People in Europe are shivering, while people in North Asia and parts of Australia are sweltering. Scientists say these weather extremes are to be expected and neither phenomenon can be used as a case for or against global warming.

Michel Jarraud

Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, Michel Jarraud, says people should not confuse local weather variability with climate change.

Just because people in Geneva and elsewhere in Europe are shivering does not mean global warming has stopped. He says the trend toward global warming is still there. "I think we have to be careful not to interpret any single event as a proof of either warming or the fact that warming has stopped. When scientists look at the global warming, they take into account many, many old possible available evidence.

FACIAL expressions of emotion are innate, not learned, according to new research that compared the facial expressions of sighted and blind athletes as they weathered defeat.

In the first study of its kind, researchers in the US say they have demonstrated that facial expressions conveying emotion are hard-wired into our genes, not learned through observation.

Even the so-called "social smile" — displayed stoically by the silver medallist at the medal ceremony, for example — is instinctive, with sighted and blind athletes using the same facial muscle movements to deliver a forced smile in difficult circumstances.

Using more than 4800 photographs of athletes from 23 countries, the researchers compared the facial expressions of sighted and blind judo athletes who took part in the 2004 summer Olympics and Paralympic Games.

According to findings by Phil Maymin, professor of finance and risk engineering at New York University, the more regular the beat on Billboard's top singles, the more volatile the American markets. After studying decades of Billboard's Hot 100 hits, Maymin found that songs with low "beat variance" had an inverse correlation with market turbulence. Which is to say, the more regular the song, the crazier the stock market.

And Single Ladies is very regular.

An old man, a boy & a donkey were going to town. The boy rode on the donkey & the old man walked. As they went along they passed some people who remarked it was a shame the old man was walking & the boy was riding.

The man & boy thought maybe the critics were right, so they changed positions.

Later, they passed some people that remarked, "What a shame, he makes that little boy walk."

They then decided they both would walk! Soon they passed some more people who thought they were stupid to walk when they had a decent donkey to ride. So, they both rode the donkey.

Now they passed some people that shamed them by saying how awful to put such a load on a poor donkey.

The boy & man said they were probably right, so they decide to carry the donkey. As they crossed the bridge, they lost their grip on the animal & he fell into the river and drowned.

The moral of the story?

If you try to please everyone, you might as well...

Billions in Oil Missing in Iraq

Between 100,000 and 300,000 barrels a day of Iraq’s declared oil production over the past four years is unaccounted for and could have been siphoned off through corruption or smuggling, according to a draft American government report.

Using an average of $50 a barrel, the report said the discrepancy was valued at $5 million to $15 million daily.

The report does not give a final conclusion on what happened to the missing fraction of the roughly two million barrels pumped by Iraq each day, but the findings are sure to reinforce longstanding suspicions that smugglers, insurgents and corrupt officials control significant parts of the country’s oil industry.

The report also covered alternative explanations for the billions of dollars worth of discrepancies, including the possibility that Iraq has been consistently overstating its oil production.

A couple who had sex on a plane and then became so abusive to the air crew that the pilot had to divert to Bermuda, plead guilty to the charges of affray and drunkenness in a U.K. court today.

Trevor Augustus Blake, 44 and Nicola Fitzgerald, 27, from Luton, Bedfordshire, were on a British Airways flight from London to Jamaica in December 2005 when staff had to restrain them.

The couple later told the News of the World newspaper that they had sex twice in the aircraft's toilets.

Fitzgerald was quoted as saying: "We felt like we were being very naughty, but we made a point of being quiet."

In court today, prosecutor Danny Robinson said: "The genesis of this difficulty on the plane arose over the pair being refused drinks.

"Some small bottles of wine had been given to both defendants. However the air crew declined to give further drinks because Mr. Blake became rather loud."

Staff restrained Blake, which upset his girlfriend and she had to be restrained, too.
