"There is a real and growing ground swell of Sunni tribal opposition to the Al Qaeda-in-Iraq terror formations. (90% Iraqi.) This counter-Al Qaeda movement in Anbar Province was fostered by brilliant US Marine leadership. There is now unmistakable evidence that the western Sunni tribes are increasingly convinced that they blundered badly by sitting out the political process. Mona Mahmudnizhad

16 year old Mona were together with 9 other Bahai women executed in June 1983. The primary charge against her was teaching Bahá’í children’s classes. Because her youth and conspicuous innocence became a symbol of the group in prison, she was lashed on the soles of her feet with a cable and forced to walk on bleeding feet. On the day of the execution she asked to be the last in line to be executed so she could pray for the others. All she had to do to avoid execution was to denounce her faith but she refused, and instead when it was her turn, she kissed the rope and put it around her own neck.

This music video was made for her by the Canadian musician Doug Cameron.

Hollywood has produced generations of movies about how the arts can turn
around hopeless classrooms, stimulate forgotten children -- the newest is *The
Ron Clark Story*, based on a real teacher as most of these are. Another
case of art illuminating art ... and what? We applaud these entertainments
as examples of what can be done in the inner cities ... while suburban
children languish? Instead of band practice, we put our kids in the
mini-van and take them to "lessons." What happened to art projects and
school plays and choir competitions? That's where we learned group
participation, confidence and the value of what we could create
joyfully from nothing but our own talent and imagination.

Our kids are starving for real education, real culture, real hands-on
experience of what lifts us out of the mundane and inspires us to
appreciate, participate, contribute. And we don't teach Civics anymore ...
we don't expect our children to understand the governance that will control
their lives. We have an unexpected champion on that front, an actor -- the
article below reflects some of the speeches I've seen Richard Dreyfuss make
and he's on the money. Here's a quote that describes our condition:

*One reason the United States finds itself at the edge of a foreign policy
disaster is its underinformed citizenry, a key weakness in democracy.*

The last article here is on new findings about [tween and] teen brains ...
how at critical junctures they "prune" themselves -- it is not encouraging
that what they're offered during that time frame is not uplifting and
inspiring through a school curriculum, but that which they find on their
own, in typical young'un style ... gangsta rap, Paris Hilton and Goth.
While anorexic teens starve their bodies looking for some control and
meaning in their lives, we starve their souls for beauty and integrity and
wonder.

Anna Nicole...suprising information

You might also think that Anna, upon finding this doddering old man infatuated with her and determined to marry her, decided to do so in order to become wealthy through no effort of her own. In fact, Anna refused to marry Howard until she had made it on her own. She pulled herself up out of the stripper business, first by becoming a Playboy model and finally by becoming the world famous, world wide model for Guess Jeans. Only after she had become successful in her own right did she agree to marry Howard.

At Howard's death, Anna brought suit in Texas for a share of Howard's estate as his surviving spouse and on the basis of certain oral promises that Howard had made to provide her with certain large sums of money as gifts and support. It certainly raised eyebrows when this widow claimed that her deceased husband had made oral promises of money transfers that he mysteriously did not carry out. What the public did not learn, however, was that Howard was an anti-tax fanatic. When he was involved with Lady Walker, he had made substantial gifts to her, and the IRS had discovered these gifts and imposed very substantial estate and gift taxes on those transfers. An enraged Howard had vowed to somehow transfer money to Anna without paying these gift taxes. Part of that strategy was being married to her and part was delaying making other gifts until he figured out a proper tax strategy.

Moreover, Howard's son Pierce initiated a ruthless strategy of preventing Howard from making these transfers. According to the California bankruptcy court, Pierce engaged in forgery, destruction of documents and other sanctionable actions in order to prevent Howard from transferring his wealth to Anna. Anna, who was barely literate and numerate, was up against a battery of ruthless lawyers hired by Pierce not just to protect his interests but to engage in a criminal conspiracy.
