Anyone who thought Dennis J. Kucinich would quiet down after Democratic leaders gave him a public forum to talk about impeaching the president hasn’t met Dennis J. Kucinich.

The Ohio Democrat was allowed to make his case for impeachment at a House Judiciary Committee hearing July 25. But he’s back already with what he calls a “citizen’s petition” intended to demonstrate support for throwing President Bush out of the White House before his term ends in January.

In an online appeal to the names on his campaign e-mail list, Kucinich calls the Judiciary discussion “a day of singular importance.”

Kucinich intends to submit nearly 100,000 signatures — some mailed to his congressional office — in support of impeachment so that the “people will know that their message” will be delivered to the Judiciary committee

For the first time the case for impeachment was discussed in front of a congressional committee, in depth, at length and with authority

Bush critics get an unimpeachable forum

Kucinich got a rock star welcome of whistles, hoots and clapping as he walked into the hearing room, holding hands with his wife, from hundreds of anti-war, anti-Bush people crammed into the room and lining the hallways outside. T-shirts reading "Arrest Bush" and "Veterans for Impeachment" illustrated the sentiments of many.

"The decision before us is whether to demand accountability for one of the gravest injustices imaginable," Kucinich testified

Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., was less circumspect in asserting that Bush was "the worst president that our nation has ever suffered."

Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-N.Y., concluded that "this is the most impeachable administration in the history of America because of the way that it has clearly violated the law."

These lies dragged our country into a preemptive and unjustified war that has taken the lives of more than 4,000 U.S. troops, injured 30,000 more, and will cost our nation more than a trillion dollars.

We watched as this administration again undermined national security by manipulating and exaggerating evidence of Iran's nuclear weapons capabilities and openly threatened aggression against Iran, despite no evidence that Iran has the intention or capability of attacking the U.S.

We have looked on in horror as the administration suspended habeas corpus by claiming the power to declare any person an "enemy combatant," ignoring the Geneva Convention protections that the U.S. helped create.

Baldwin makes a call for impeachment hearings

Declaring that "there is no task more important for this Congress than to seriously consider whether our nation's leaders have violated their oath of office," Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin on Friday morning told the House Judiciary Committee, "I now firmly believe that impeachment hearings are the appropriate and necessary next step."

The House on Tuesday voted 238-180 to send his article of impeachment — for Bush's reasoning for taking the country to war in Iraq — to the Judiciary Committee, which buried Kucinich's previous effort.

House Democratic leaders emphatically said the proceedings will not be about Bush's impeachment

This separation of powers was expressly intended to prevent a President from unilaterally summoning troops to war in the manner of a king.

Are we willing to respect our institution, our Constitution and ourselves? Will this President, at last, be held accountable for lying to Congress to gain authorization for the use of force against Iraq? Will we allow future Presidents to take office knowing they can commit the same acts with impunity?

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who introduced legislation last year to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, is now aiming higher.

On the House floor this evening, the Ohio Democrat proposed impeaching President Bush. In language similar to that in the articles of impeachment he raised against Cheney, Kucinich sought support for a 35-count indictment charging Bush with misleading Congress and the American people into war with tales of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Democratic House leaders have opposed impeaching Bush or Cheney as an unhelpful distraction. They were nearly embarrassed last year when Republicans voted to take up Kucinich's effort against Cheney in order to force a debate; they are unlikely to let the matter get so far this time

BUSH GETS LOWEST APPROVAL RATING YET

President Bush's approval rating has hit an new low, dropping to 25 percent in the most recent CBS News poll.

Bush now ranks 3rd all time in lowest approval rating, hovering above Richard Nixon's 24 percent in August 1974 and Harry Truman's 22 percent in February 1952. Bush's 67 percent disapproval rating, however, ranks slightly higher than both Nixon and Truman during their least popular rating.

The Iraq war continues to plague the president's popularity. Despite much touted "success" for the surge, 61 percent of respondents said Iraq will never be a stable democracy, up 8 percent since September. And 42 percent want troops out of Iraq within the year.

An overwhelming 83 percent of respondents said the country is on the wrong track.

SAN MARCOS, CA – Disillusioned but not discouraged, peace activist turned congressional candidate Cindy Sheehan last night took her fight against the Iraq war and the Washington establishment to Cal State San Marcos, where she received a standing ovation.

WALTHAM, MA â€” As U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Stanley Elementary School yesterday, a small group of protesters gathered outside demanding she use her congressional powers to impeach President George Bush.

Holding signs simply reading "Impeach" and others offering statistics on deaths caused by the war in Iraq, about a dozen protesters held a silent demonstration yesterday on the sidewalk opposite the school on South Street.

"Pelosi has the power to bring bills to the floor or not bring bills to the floor. She's not been using that power," said Sandy Coy of Wayland, who said she was alerted to Pelosi's visit through an e-mail network. "How often do we get a chance to put our message out there to impeach the President George Bush and (Vice President) Dick Cheney and end the war?"

Coy said she is a member of the Congressional District 7 Chapter of Progressive Democrats of America, an organization founded in 2004 to effect change in the Democratic Party and the country.

The National Program Office (NPO) is an agency of the United States Government which was established to ensure continuity of government in the event of a national disaster. The was established by a secret executive order signed by President Ronald Reagan during the Cold War in preparation for a nuclear war, presumably with the Soviet Union. In addition to supplanting the executive branch, the NPO has the power to dissolve Congress.

It would be too dangerous a thing for Bush to do. He would be sticking his neck out too far, at risk to himself, because surely a civil war would break out if this happened

I don't put this past him at all, so I thought it would be worth posting

How easily will Congress just lie down and say "okay, we agree to give up our jobs"....

Even if this is legislated----and it does appear to be genuine, based on what little of this I read---the practical realities seem discouraging to the implementation. Of course, I could be very, very wrong

They told him that if he would drop his campaigns to impeach Cheney and Bush, they would guarantee his re-election to the House of Representatives. Kucinich threw them out of his office
