"Some people would say you shouldn't strive for personal happiness until you've taken care of everyone in the world who is starving or doesn't have adequate medical care," says Howard Cutler, MD, coauthor with the Dalai Lama of The Art of Happiness in a Troubled World. "The Dalai Lama believes you should pursue both simultaneously. For one thing, there is clear research showing that happy people tend to be more open to helping others. They also make better spouses and parents." And in one famous study, nuns whose autobiographies expressed positive emotions (such as gratitude and optimism) lived seven to 10-and-a-half years longer than other nuns. So, for any die-hard pessimist who still needs persuading, just think of how much more you can help the world if you allow a little happiness into your life.

Can an elephant envision his own species in 2-dimensional form? Mmmmm, I might have considered it possible until he painted in the flower - that's human whimsy. BUT even if he was only taught how to do the drawing, the result is an amazing show of intelligence. The correcting and darkening light lines shows a discriminating eye. But what does the image he drew mean to him? Can any animal think in 2-D? Raises some perplexing questions about what elephants perceive.

Checklist

Note!!! To begin with, run a hardware diagnostic test on your hard drive to be sure there are no errors on it and that it is defect free.

1. Empty the Recycle Bin.

2. Delete .tmp files. Before running ScanDisk and Defragmenter, delete all *.tmp files that have been created prior to the current day.

3. Delete files that begin with tilde (~), from apps, such as word-processing, spreadsheet, and graphics programs.

4. Delete old .zip files.

5. Delete .chk files.

6. Run Chkdsk and defrag the drive as needed, and go into msconfig to turn off any and all TSR's that might be loading on startup.

7. Delete the cache files and history files.

8. Clean out Windows temporary Internet files. If the browser is Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

9. Make sure you are up to date on your anti-virus and scumware software and scan your PC to remove malicious code(s) or trojans.

10. Blow the dust and debris out of back of the machine, PSU and inside of the computer.

But, I wanted to share my own meandering experiences with my friends and fellow clippers on Clipmarks.

I was sorting through a box of nuts and bolts one day, looking for the right size nut to fit on my bicycle's back tire. I knew exactly what nut I needed, and exactly which nut would fix my bicycle. I just needed to find the right size. Without thinking, I would pick up a nut, look at it, and once I knew that nut wouldn't fit, I would toss it back into the box. After doing this about 10 times, I realized that I was picking up a few of the same nuts that I already picked up before. I was wasting my time by picking up the same nuts that I knew would not fit my bicycle.

So, I wised up and started placing the unwanted nuts outside of the box. Soon, I found the nut I was looking for. It was then that I realized how symbolic that is to life's problems and situations. If you continue to toss your problems back into your life, you will continue to run into those same problems again. It's only when you face your problems one by one, is when the solutions for your life will become more clear

Why some smokers don't get Lung Cancer

clipper's remarks: Yes, I am a smoker. And after reading this news article, It still doesn't change my mind about quiting smoking. I need to quit! For my health and the heath of the people around me. And also the fact that I can save a lot of money each week from not buying cigarettes.

Even if I were one of the select few that don't get Lung Cancer, that still means nothing to me, and it shouldn't mean anything to other smokers out there either. Because a lot more things can happen to a smoker, than just Lung Cancer.

Smoking is the most potent known cause of lung cancer. The question is: Why do some longtime smokers come down with the deadly disease whereas others escape it? New research points to a genetic culprit that also was fingered as upping a person's likelihood of becoming hooked on cigarettes.

Two new studies link a variation in a gene residing on chromosome 15 (of a person's 23 pairs of chromosomes) to a heightened risk of developing lung cancer; a third study suggests that the same mutation affects a person's tendency to become addicted to smokes and, by extension, develop the dreaded disease. Lung cancer is diagnosed in some 200,000 Americans and kills more than 150,000 each year.

The new research—published in both Nature and Nature Genetics—suggests that people with this genetic flaw have a 30 percent greater chance of developing the often-fatal illness. But the studies differ on the potential added risk of addiction.

clipper's remarks: We are all guilty of it at some point and to some degree now and then, myself included. I do try (and as a human sometimes fail) to avoid gossiping. When we speak wrongly of others, not only are you cheating the person with whom we are speaking to out of knowing a potentially good friend, but we are also cheating the person being spoken of. We are essentially assisting the listener to form a negative opinion of another. So please think about the harm you can inflict upon others, before you say something about that person.

One man spread a rumor about another. He later felt regret, and went to the rabbi to ask how to make amends.

Super-Close Google Maps Zooms

Holy moly that is a close up zoom of a camel (see my screenshot above) – and it works for other place on Google Maps too! Yes, it turns out that you can zoom in much more deeply onto Google Maps by doing this:

Select a location and switch to satellite view
Zoom in as far as you can, and click “link to this page” at the top right
Now replace the “z” parameter in the URL with a higher value, e.g. 20, 22, or 23, and wait. Some locations will now show more detailed imagery
