Around Iraq, at least 1,080 Iraqi civilians and security personnel were killed last month, an average of 36 a day, according to the AP tally. While that's down from March's total of 1,269, or an average of 41 per day, those casualties certainly don't add up to a stable Iraq.

But Iraq isn't getting the prominent play of other news topics. The latest statistics from the Project for Excellence in Journalism back up the conclusion that coverage of the Iraq war is on the decline.

Even as violence in Iraq increased, events on the ground in Iraq accounted for only 3 percent of news coverage, and the Iraq policy debate accounted for another 3 percent.

<clipSource>http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2008/05/04/were_in_a_war___where_are_the_media/</clipSource>

Happy Birthday Maya Angelou

clipped by: kenstipe
clipper's remarks: Maya knows why the caged bird sings but cannot seem to figure anything else out.
The event Sunday will include a red carpet and a guest list full of celebrities. Proceeds from the pricey soiree benefit a southwest Atlanta YMCA teen center bearing her name.

The party is the third Angelou has had since turning 80 on April 4. The others were in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she lives, and Palm Beach, Fla., an event organized by Oprah Winfrey.

The Atlanta event is being thrown by civil rights icon and longtime friend Andrew Young and his family

<clipSource>http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,354102,00.html</clipSource>
