I found them simply interesting. It is always exciting to see these flashy trucks speeding down the highway! In the summer of 1998, I attended an event that brought together nearly a hundred of these trucks. It was really overwhelming to see them all and follow them around…

Photographer and blogger Raul Gutierrez says, "Square America has posted an online show titled African-American Portraits & Snapshots, a collection of 160 photographs taken between 1900 to 1975 (several home movies are also included)."

Link (be patient, the site is designed simply and not optimized well, and takes a while to load).

Below, one of the "beautifully abstract" home movies included in Square America's online gallery -- which may end up being a book someday. I sure hope so.

I recently read a news story claiming that more men are getting their bikini line done. For heaven's sake, why?

of all female activities for men to partake in, I really would not have recommended this one, the most painful and humiliating of them all.

it seems that more men are getting their "bikini" lines done, and not just ageing European men (oh, those continentals - zey are zo funny!) who stroll about on yachts while wearing tiny red Speedos,

Apparently, it's all about emphasising size or some other such nonsense, which even I find too low rent to discuss.

When are the best and worst times to be admitted to hospital?

Dr Cancer Worst time: junior doctor handover in the first weeks of February and August.

Dr Mind Worst time is Friday and Saturday night when the drunken kids are out beating themselves up, crashing cars and overloading hospitals.

Dr Child A&E is very unpredictable. Urgent situations will be dealt with quickly, regardless of how busy the department is.

Dr Everything Best time is when there is no alternative. Worst time is on Christmas Eve or Good Friday with an unknown condition. Hospitals are understaffed over weekends and bank holidays.

After a decade fighting to stop illegal file-sharing, the music industry will give fans today what they have always wanted: an unlimited supply of free and legal songs.

The service has been endorsed by the very same record companies - including EMI, Universal Music and Warner Music – that have chased file-sharers through the courts in a doomed attempt to prevent piracy. The gamble is that fans will put up with a limited amount of advertising around the Qtrax website’s jukebox in return for authorised use of almost every song available.

The service will use the “peer-to-peer” network, which contains not just hit songs but rarities and live tracks from the world’s leading artists.

Public queue overnight for the chance to spend £40 and possibly pick up an art work worth thousands of pounds

Hundreds of hopeful buyers wrapped up against the freezing cold early yesterday morning to queue for a chance to choose 'blind' from more than 2,500 mini works of art lining the walls of the Royal College of Art in Kensington. Each was priced at £40. Some were by unknown artists, others by contributors with very big reputations.

No single event in the art world is so good at highlighting debate about the value of contemporary art than the RCA's annual anonymous - or 'secret' - sale of postcards. As the first stream of buyers moved forward at 7am to call out the numbers of the cards they wanted, tension reached critical level. Was it an original Damien Hirst or Tracey Emin, or by some student just out of college?

Last year a Damien Hirst sketch of a human skull that had been bought blind was auctioned later at Sotheby's for £15,000.

The future of design? Voters pick the next must-have on the net

37-year-old Tokyo-based designer and founder of Elephant Design has a more ambitious dream, one he hopes will change the face of British shopping.

He wants to empty the shelves of dreary, mass-marketed and mass-produced objects and replace them with products that we - the people - have helped to develop. Nishiyama calls his idea Design to Order and the principle is simple. Anyone with a unique idea, for anything from a robotic web camera to a magnetic bathroom mirror, posts an image and description on his website. There, people can log on to suggest alterations and improvements to the design. If enough people then vote for the product, he makes a deal with a manufacturer and the product is made.

One idea, for transparent sticky memos, was suggested by a 21-year-old student and will be marketed next month. She stands to get royalties from every pack sold.
