I’m not militant about punctuation but i do find it annoying when people write things with lots of exclamation points. So i created a Greasemonkey script that turns anywhere from 2-42 exclamation points into just one. Greasemonkey has to be installed and you need to be using Firefox in order for this to work. If you have them both already then grab my excessive exclamation points script. There is some excessive punctuation below for you to test. After you have installed the script just refresh this page and you should see the exclamation points disappear from this post’s title and the lines below.

such a war, these nations would very likely devastate each other and much
of the world many times over, resulting in the deaths of perhaps hundreds
    of millions of people.

It was Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov’s duty to use computers
and satellites to warn the Soviet Union if there were ever a nuclear missile
attack by the United States. In the event of such an attack, the Soviet
Union’s strategy was to launch an immediate all-out nuclear weapons
    counterattack against the United States.

Tags: hero, ussr, war

<clipSource>http://www.brightstarsound.com/world_hero/article.html</clipSource>

What does love mean?

clipped by: kankamuso

Clip Source: singlesrant.blogspot.com

"What does love mean?"

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds,

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her
toenails anymore. It took 24 hours for the offer to sink in, but her daughter told me she cried the whole way home.''

The pair want to boost awareness of organ donorship, as Australia has one of the lowest rates in the world.

"There are some 1500 people waiting for a kidney transplant, with an average wait of four years,'' he said.

He said Kidney Health Australia would like to encourage more people to consider kidney donation. About 40 per cent of kidneys come from live donors and between 97 and 98 per cent of those are relatives of the recipient.

The two women have grown close through the experience."Bernie is as private as I am outgoing - we are almost the opposite,'' Ms Maley said. "She didn't even tell me about her illness, I heard through friends,'' she added.

"It will be nice to go out and not have to worry about getting home for dialysis,'' Ms Keegan added.

Tags: inspiring, humanity, disease, kidney, transplant.

<clipSource>http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,20991720-5001021,00.html</clipSource>

Geometry Disproves Arithmetic

clipped by: nemesarial

Clip Source: www.futilitycloset.com

Cases occur every winter, but health officials say that in recent weeks they have seen two to three times as many cases as usual.

Norovirus infection usually clears up after two or three days, but medical epidemiologist Marc-Alain Widdowson, a norovirus expert at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, says the misery of those days shouldn't be dismissed.

"When you're ill, you're really ill," he says. About half of food-borne diseases are thought to be caused by norovirus, the CDC says.

But this winter, it is spreading mainly from person to person through communities, and experts believe the majority of cases are unreported.

Once it's in the house, experts say, it's tough to wipe out. It can linger for days on surfaces such as children's toys, keyboards, telephones and doorknobs, and both vomit and stool are highly infectious. It is present in the stool up to three weeks after the patient recovers, so health officials stress the importance of hand-washing, especially after using the bathroom and before preparing food.

Tags: stomach, flu, stinks

<clipSource>http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2007-01-08-stomach-bug_x.htm</clipSource>

More About Dead Birds in Austin and Australia

clipped by: dorine

Clip Source: www.dailymail.co.uk

Dead birds rain down on towns half a world apart

It could be the plot of a horror film, but in two towns on opposite sides of the world the mysterious phenomenon of thousands of dead birds dropping out of the sky is all too real.

Officials are baffled by the unexplained deaths which have affected Australia and the U.S.

Three weeks ago thousands of crows, pigeons, wattles and honeyeaters fell out of the sky in Esperance, Western Australia.

Then last week dozens of grackles, sparrows and pigeons dropped dead on two streets in Austin, Texas.

As birds continue to die in Esperance and the town's dawn chorus remains eerily silent, vets in both countries have been unable to establish a cause of death - despite carrying out a large number of autopsies on the birds.

Dr Fiona Sunderman, chief veterinary officer of the Department of Agriculture and Food, suspects the cause of death is some form of toxic poisoning.

Esperance resident Michelle Crisp, who normally sees hundreds of birds roosting in her garden, counted 80 dead ones in one day.

"It went to the point where we had nothing, not a single bird," she said. "It was like a moonscape - just horrible."

Such was the concern that the birds suffered deliberate toxic poisoning that several streets were closed in Austin while police and fire crews checked the area for any substance that might be of harm to humans.

"This was a precautionary measure. We certainly take these kinds of thing seriously, especially following 9/11," said Mr Valadez. "It may be a matter of time before we know what happened and why it happened. There is no threat to public health."
