Canadian Surprised by $85,000 Cell Bill

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Piotr Staniaszek normally pays $147 a month for his cell phone. So he was more than a little surprised to learn his November bill had ballooned to $59,000.

And then it got worse.

When he called to inquire about the high figure, he was told that his bill this month was $83,000.

Staniaszek, 22, said he used his cell phone to download music and movies onto a computer, an unwise move in a country where mobile carriers charge expensive fees for data.

Staniaszek, an oil field worker, said he signed up with Bell Mobility to pay $10 a month to use a mobile browser on his cell phone.

But Bell Canada official Jeffrey Meerman said Staniaszek's cell phone plan is not intended for downloading files to a computer, and that is in his contract.

Bell and Staniaszek have since negotiated the bill to $3,195.

Vista Service Pack 1 and XP Service Pack 3 are scheduled for release early in 2008

Recently reports came out that Vista SP1 doesn't do much to increase performance - but that XP SP3 does increase performance by about 10%.

Shamed scientist's 'breakthrough'

South Korean Woo Suk Hwang became famous after claiming to have extracted the world's first stem cells from a cloned embryo.

With his research discredited, he was dismissed from his post at the university, and charged with fraud and embezzlement.

The latest twist came from the Harvard Stem Cell Institute in the US, who looked closely at his data, and found the cells were actually from a different type of embryo.

Researchers said that the distinct "genetic fingerprint" of the stem cells means they may be the first in the world to be extracted from embryos produced by the so-called "virgin birth" method, or parthenogenesis.

However, before Hwang, no one had managed to produce a human embryo using parthenogenesis which lived long enough to allow the extraction of viable stem cells.

"In fact they had produced the world's first patient-specific embryonic stem cell, and that is very valuable.

Swine fever outbreak hits Romania

Timis official Ovidiu Draganescu said that all 25 farms belonging to Smithfield Foods will be tested for swine fever.

Swine fever is a recurrent problem in Romania, which has been banned from exporting pork to other EU countries.

Swine fever is a highly infectious disease. Infected pigs must be slaughtered and the carcases buried or incinerated

Smithfield - which claims to be the biggest pork producer in the world - bought the Timis farms in 2004.

Animal health and food safety standards have been main concerns as Romania and Bulgaria joined the European Union on 1 January 2007.

In a recent case that was decided earlier this month, federal agents used a keystroke logger to record the typing of a suspected ecstasy manufacturer who has been using encryption to thwart the police.

In the wake of that, CNET’s News.com did a survey of 13 leading anti-spyware vendors and found none have cooperated (or acknowledge doing that) unofficially with government agencies. Still, some of them did indicate that if so ordered by a court to keep quiet, they would obey and not alert customers to the presence of government-planted spyware.

clipper's remarks: Someone told my husband the other day to try premium in his tractor and it might start. It was running fine until about a month or so ago. He did and it started right up. The guy also said that premium is better because the gas cartels are putting something in the gas that causes it to eat itself. The farmers who generally like to store some on there acreage for use in their machines aren't able to store it for even a week anymore.

clipper's remarks: This is a statement from a CNN reporter, ex-Catholic. I can agree with most but there are a couple of important points missing in this call to ignore the "old man".

1) Benedict's history - He was the Czar of the inquisition. He is a harline Catholic and wants to rule the world. Not that he will for long anyway, according to Rev 17:12

2) We can't dismiss the enemy (Satan, or his agents) we must know the enemy. This is a given rule in any warfare. Just ask any of the Wiccans who use this site. Why do they have BIbles? Why do they know anything about the Bible. Don't they follow the enemy of God, the Creator? Their master requires that they be not ignorant. Should God's followers be any less?

(CNN) -- Non-Catholics who are up in arms of the proclamation by Pope Benedict XVI that the only true church in the world is that of Catholicism shouldn't even bother getting upset. Just chalk it up to an old man trying to get a little attention.

This week, the pope released a document correcting interpretations of the Second Vatican Council, which some say modernized the church.

It doesn't matter what Pope Benedict XVI has to say, or for that matter, any other religious leader. A Christian believes in Jesus Christ and what He had to say, not what a man of God has to say. This is not an attempt to completely dismiss religious leaders, but is further evidence of what happens when ego is more important than the work of Christ.
