I began to think about if I was asked a random question, on stage, in front of 300 million viewers, I would studder and stumble over the answer.

Did anyone watch the whole thing; did anyone see any of the other contestants answers? I just can't believe the video has received over 11 million views in under a week.

Clip Source: youtube.com

Not to be confused with WiiToob, which launched a few weeks back and offers a big interface for interacting with YouTube videos on your Wii, WiiTube is a brand new site that’s more concerned with videos about the Wii than providing a bigger interface for viewing on a console.

WiiTube is a particularly nice attempt - it includes ratings, tags, profile pages, commenting and special sections for cheats, clips of your awesome Wii skills and trailers of upcoming games. Videos aren’t uploaded to Wiitube, though - instead, you just add the embed code from YouTube, Google Video, Break.com, Metacafe and other popular sites.

In some ways, sites that do this (Flixya is another one) are leeching bandwidth but keeping the ad revenue - if they’re using Adsense, then perhaps GoogTube isn’t too worried, though.

One improvement I’d like to see: the default avatar is a Gravatar logo which none of the users seem to have changed: perhaps they could provide some game character avatars to choose from on sign-up so that every user doesn’t look exactly the same. Besides that, nice attempt.

Tags: wiitube

<clipSource>http://mashable.com/2007/02/20/itube-youtube-wiitube/</clipSource>

Yahoo's Singing News Show!?!?

clipped by: juliapatriciaroy

Clip Source: mashable.com

Singing News - Yahoo has announced that it will produce a show where a crooner sings the news headlines. “Odd News Underground” will be launched by the end of this quarter. But there’s a site that already has thousands of these quirky ideas: YouTube. Why is Yahoo still making content when it should be providing the platform for user generated content, or licensing good stuff from the TV networks? The most remarkable change seems to be the launch of AudioSwap, a place to find free soundtracks for your videos while avoiding copyright concerns. Users who have already uploaded videos are given the option to switch their soundtracks for licensed music with attribution, hence the name. Of course, that seems like it’s more about appeasing the music labels than providing great music for your videos. AudioSwap has been launched in the TestTube section, suggesting it’s not quite ready for prime time.

Tags: youtube

<clipSource>http://mashable.com/2007/02/23/youtube-audioswap/</clipSource>

Youtube Skins

clipped by: juliapatriciaroy
clipper's remarks: fun stuff

Clip Source: mashable.com

Slide.com, purveyor of MySpace slideshows and other widgety bling, has just launched an inspired new concept: YouTube skins. Announced to users today, “SkinFlix” lets you enter the URL of any YouTube video and add frames to make it look like a Plasma TV, a theater, a vanity mirror, an old-fashioned TV and more. You can also add animations like disco lights, falling snow and floating hearts. Slide maintains the link back to YouTube (although it’ll be disabled by MySpace if you embed it there) and also adds some Slide.com images at the bottom linking back to the SkinFlix page.

Tags: youtube

<clipSource>http://mashable.com/2007/02/23/youtube-skins/</clipSource>

YouTube "Ad's" Pulled

clipped by: juliapatriciaroy
clipper's remarks: I agree, blatant ad's on YouTube should be banned. VIDEO ADS ON YOUTUBE MUST meet the same standards for truth and accuracy as ads in other media, the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus ruled in a decision released Thursday.
The ruling marked the first time the NAD--the investigative arm of the ad industry's self-policing operation--considered claims of false advertising on video-sharing sites.

"This case establishes a precedent," Andrea Levine, the director of NAD, said in a statement e-mailed to OnlineMediaDaily. "When an advertiser places a video on a site like YouTube and uses it, either to make claims about its own product or to compare its product to a competitor's product, those claims are advertising claims and, by law, require substantiation."

The case stemmed from an ad campaign for Dyson vacuum cleaners touting their allegedly superior ability to suction dirt without clogging. The campaign included a YouTube video that showed Dyson outperforming vacuums made by competitors. One Dyson rival featured in the video, Euro-Pro, complained to the NAD, claiming that the ad was deceptive because the vacuums used in the test had different-sized receptacles, among other reasons.

Dyson pulled the video from YouTube, but the NAD still ruled on the issue. "Dyson's video depicted a comparative product demonstration and was therefore advertising and subject to the legal requirement that it be truthful and accurate," stated the opinion.

CBS and Google are in "serious talks" aimed at making the content of CBS
television shows available on Google-acquired YouTube, where it could be
sponsored by local advertisers, Advertising Age reported Thursday. The
two sides are reportedly seeking to settle on a guaranteed amount that CBS
would be paid for its programs. The trade publication said that the deal would
also include a provision under which Google would pay CBS additional
compensation for "past transgressions" -- the posting of CBS content in the
past -- for which the network received no payment but which helped to make
YouTube worth $1.65 billion when Google acquired it last November.
