'It was a pretty stupid thing to get involved with'

Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett has repudiated his signing in 2004 of a document described as "The Declaration of North American Integration."

"I do not favor the North American Union," Cornett he told WND in a telephone interview yesterday. "It was a pretty stupid thing to get involved with three years ago. I don't necessarily remember what I was thinking at the time, but I can speak for now and I do not favor a North American Union."

WND has reported that the document was presented at the May 2004 summit meeting of the North American International Trade Corridor Partnership, or NAITCP. According to an Internet-archived summary report of the meeting, held in Kansas City, Mo., the document was signed by 90 people.

WND asked Cornett if he remembered signing the declaration.

The Internal Revenue Service has lost a lawyer's challenge in front of a jury to prove a constitutional foundation for the nation's income tax, and the victorious attorney now is setting his sights higher.

"I think now people are beginning to realize that this has got to be the largest fraud, backed up by intimidation and extortion and by the sheer force of taking peoples property and hard-earned money without any lawful authorization whatsoever," lawyer Tom Cryer told WND just days after a jury in Louisiana acquitted him of two criminal tax counts.

"These snake oil peddlers have conned millions of dollars out of many well-intended patriots and left a trail of broken lives in their wake.

Three sisters stabbed to death in Gaza 'honor killing'

Three sisters were found stabbed to death in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, raising suspicion they were killed by relatives because of suspected immoral behavior, a human rights organization said.

The three sisters, 16-year-old Nahed Hija and her sisters, 19-year-old Suha and 22-year-old Lina, were found dead from multiple stab wounds, buried in a shallow grave in the central Gaza Strip early Sunday morning, said Hamdi Shakkour of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights.

Shakkour said they suspected the women were victims of "honor crimes," in which women are murdered by male relatives because of suspected intimate relations - not necessarily sex - outside of marriage.

The Hamas force that polices the Gaza Strip said in a statement it was investigating the deaths.

Researchers say Muslim history includes cooking human victims

Although the recent WND report of al-Qaida terrorists allegedly baking a young boy and serving him as a meal to his relatives was too horrific for some to believe, a major Christian ministry is citing another example – and also claims such a practice has its roots in the historical stories of Islam.

The issue has come into focus following a report from Michael Yon, a Special Forces soldier now in Iraq to report on the successes there. He told radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt he was inspired by a "news cycle that seems to pander toward the terrorists."

Yon, who has earned widespread respect as an independent journalist, reported that Iraqi officials told him about al-Qaida terrorists baking children and serving them to their families.

He confirmed independently to WND that an Iraqi official had recounted for him instances in which the terrorists would bake a young boy,

Chastity ring teenager loses High Court fight

A school that banned a teenage girl from wearing a "purity" ring to symbolise her opposition to sex before marriage did not discriminate against her religious beliefs, the High Court ruled today

Lydia Playfoot, 16, claimed that the ban imposed by the Millais School in Horsham, West Sussex, constituted "unlawful interference" with her fundamental rights to express her Christian faith.

But in a ruling she described as "very disappointing", Michael Supperstone, a deputy High Court judge, said that the school had not breached the Human Rights Act.

Miss Playfoot, the daughter of a Christian minister, was one of a dozen girls who wore the ring, which is engraved with a verse from the Bible, to show their intention to abstain from sex until they married.

But the school told the girls to remove their rings as the wearing of jewellery contravened its uniform policy.

A reporter embedded with the U.S. military in Iraq reports a government official has recounted a new atrocity by al-Qaida: several instances in which terrorists baked a young boy, then invited his family to lunch with the victim as the main course.

"As Lt. David Wallach interpreted the man's words, I saw Wallach go blank and silent. He stopped interpreting for a moment. I asked Wallach, 'What did he say?' Wallach said that at these luncheons, the families were sat down to eat. And then their boy was brought in with his mouth stuffed. The boy had been baked. Al-Qaida served the boy to his family."

When Christians Stumble

For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." —Romans 4:3

Contrary to what some might believe, the Bible doesn't teach that if you are a Christian, you will never stumble. It doesn't teach that if you are a true believer, you will not periodically make a mistake or fall short. But it does teach that if you are a true believer and have had a lapse or a stumble, you will always get up and move forward. That is the way to truly determine whether someone is a real believer.

Although Abraham was a friend of God, which Scripture specifically mentions three times, it is also clear that he had his lapses of faith. Yet the Bible says that "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness" (Romans 4:3). Does this mean that Abraham was declared righteous because of the good things he did? Did God justify Abraham because he lived such a holy, pure, and flawless life? Hardly.

A former gay rights activist's "coming out" story about his path to becoming straight and his experience of a personal encounter with God has drawn skepticism, prompting the ex-gay to attempt to set the record straight.

"[I]t wasn't internal homophobia that caused my so-called 'hatred' of my own homosexuality. It was God," said Michael Glatze, former editor of Young Gay America magazine, who recently announced in a column that he is now a heterosexual.

After nearly two decades of identifying himself as gay and leading gay rights activism and Young Gay America magazine, Glatze left all of that and homosexuality itself after experiencing what he called a "very personal" encounter with God.

N. Korean Christian on Death Row Sparks Campaign by Watchdog Group, U.S. Senators

WASHINGTON – A Christian persecution watch group, with the support of U.S. lawmakers, launched a worldwide campaign effort Tuesday to free a North Korean man awaiting public execution for the crime of simply being a Christian.

The Voice of the Martyrs (VOM), an international ministry which assists persecuted Christians around the world, is calling on people around the world to help free the North Korean Christian Son Jong Nam.

Son was a former North Korean army officer who came to believe in Jesus Christ during his escape to China where he met a South Korean missionary. He has reportedly been beaten, tortured and held both in China and in North Korea for being a Christian. He is now currently in a death row basement jail in the capital city Pyongyang. The Christian evangelist is said to be sentenced to public execution as an example to the North Korean people.

Massive Young Crowd Fasts for Moral Revolution

A massive fasting and prayer gathering drew one of the largest crowds in the history of Nashville's L.P. Field on Saturday.

Some 100,000 people answered "The Call" under the blazing sun to turn around a nation that many evangelical Christians believe is on a moral decline.

"We’ve come here with a faith that God can turn a nation and mighty shift can take place here today," Lou Engle, founder of The Call, told the crowd of mostly young adults.

With minimal advertising, The Call had drawn 55,000 by late afternoon, according to The Tennessean. But local TV news channel WKRN reported growing attendance throughout the day and estimated 100,000 total participants who came from as far as Washington state.

Organized by Engle and a group of charismatic pastors, speakers and authors, The Call was an intense day of crying out in prayers as stadium-filled crowd was called to repentance.

Benedict ignites holy war of words by stating other groups 'defective'

Pope Benedict XVI has ignited controversy across the world by approving a document saying non-Catholic Christian communities are either defective or not true churches, and the Roman Catholic Church provides the only true path to salvation.

"Christ 'established here on earth' only one church," said the document, reasserting the primacy of Catholicism.

It said other Christian communities such as Protestants "cannot be called 'churches' in the proper sense" since they don't have what's known as apostolic succession – that is, the ability to trace their bishops back to the original 12 apostles of Jesus.

The document said the Orthodox church suffered from a "wound" because it did not recognize the primacy of the pope, adding the wound was "still more profound" among Protestant denominations.

County-sponsored July 4th event orders pastor out of public park

A Maryland church pastor attending a July 4th community band concert and fireworks in a city park to honor veterans is reporting he was told by officials to leave, because he was handing out Gospel tracts.

Dennis L. Watson, an associate minister at Pleasant View Baptist Church, initially revealed his experience at the publicly funded festival in North East, Md., on a website for a men's group, called Men of Valor.

He called it a "slap in the face" to the veterans whose heroics were being honored at the "Salute to Cecil County Veterans" because of the fervent belief of those who founded the United States that "We have no king but King Jesus."

Christians have been arrested recently at "gay" festivals for nothing more than having a protest sign that is "wider than their torso," but now police have gone even further, targeting Bible-carrying ministers for praying on public property and for standing on a public sidewalk near a "gay" festival.

One of the new cases comes from Elmira, N.Y., where police arrested seven Christians who went into a public park where a "gay" fest was beginning and started to pray, faces down, while holding their Bibles.

ACLU sues city over Jesus painting

NEW ORLEANS - The American Civil Liberties Union sued the city of Slidell on Tuesday for displaying a painting of Jesus in a courthouse lobby, saying it violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

The ACLU sued after the Slidell City Court refused to voluntarily remove the picture and a message below it that reads: "To Know Peace, Obey These Laws." The ACLU says the portrait — an image of Jesus presenting the New Testament — is a religious icon of the Eastern Orthodox branch of Christianity.

"We did not file this lawsuit because the ACLU is anti-religion ... We did file this lawsuit because we believe this display is clearly in violation of the law," said Vincent Booth, president and acting executive director of the Louisiana ACLU chapter.
