The two largest groups are the Dear Janes and Dear Baby Jane (http://www.flickr.com/groups/dearbabyjane/). It is amazing how many blocks these ladies have created.I am in awe of them. I admired one particular member and found her blog. She has some history of her Dear Jane work, a link to which is below.

Clip Source: minkasstudio.blogspot.com

Trip 'Round the World -- Or Not?

<clipSource>http://minkasstudio.blogspot.com/2008/04/dear-jane-quilt.html</clipSource>

Bubble Mailers to Make

clipped by: jlapac
clipper's remarks: Another way to use up/recycle regular household items.

Clip Source: thisis.notarobot.net

Throughout the year 2000, NPR presented the stories behind 100 of the most important American musical works of the 20th century. These special features cover music from a wide variety of genres -- classical, jazz, rock'n'roll, country, R&B, musical theatre and film scores. NPR 100 stories aired on All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and NPR's weekend news magazine programs.

While most people won’t be able to read the ancient text, having access and being able to puzzle over the words yourself without an intermediary provides the opportunity to translate the Bible yourself and make your own interpretation.

Clip Source: www.cnn.com

<P getElementsByClassName="function() {

I am happy to take comments, but I do my work for me. I love sharing it, but I am my own best critic and don't need others. I love it that people from all over the world and friends I don't see very often can see what I am doing and keep up.

I heard a great quote while I was away: Creativity is an Expression of Joy. The world, I think, needs less criticism and more support for creativity.

Clip Source: mimikirchner.com

Does that say something about the corner that we inhabit? I don’t think many of the art/craft blogs I look at are putting their work out into the world seeking constructive criticism. Who asks for that from strangers? If I want a critique of my work, I ask someone I know well, whose view point I respect, who I believe has some understanding of where I am coming from and who I can watch as they interact with my work. So why do I put my work out there? To connect with other people who are interested in what I’m interested in. Imagine- look! look! embroidery! wool! cool!…. I can assure anyone who questions this- it is not so easy to find people who get excited about this stuff. So, of course all the comments are nice and oh so gushy- we are thrilled to find someone else who gets what we are into!

<clipSource>http://mimikirchner.com/blog/archives/2008/07/finished-bags-and-comment-thoughts/</clipSource>

Happiness: How to Be it for Just Minutes a Day!

clipped by: jlapac
clipper's remarks: Sounds like on of those Enquirer articles from the 1970s. You can usually find something on your topic, if you describe it the right way. Not so with pictures. A variety of organizations have been working for years on searching pictures. Nothing is quite ready for primetime and you still have to tag the pictures so people can search the tags.

PicAnswers has created a site that allows you to post pictures and get answers to what they are: a human search engine! Perhaps librarians will come back in vogue.

Clip Source: www.researchbuzz.org

Post a Picture, Get an Answer

PicAnswers LLC announced yesterday the launch of a picture question and answer site called, appropriately enough, PicAnswers ( http://picanswers.com/ ). I thought a site like this would be kind of pedestrian but as always the Internet amazes me with what it’ll ask questions about.

You’ll get the idea from the front page of the site — it’s like an answers site, with images. There are a series of pictures with questions attached to them. The pictures at the moment include what appear to be bones on a beach, what look like anime photoshopped llamas, an old tobacco can, and someone’s broken patio ceiling. The questions range from “Is this valuable?” to “What IS this?” and “How do I fix this?” Most of the questions I looked at had some kind of answer, and most of the time it was a useful answer.

Tags: optional. separate by commas., librarian, search

<clipSource>http://www.researchbuzz.org/wp/2008/02/13/post-a-picture-get-an-answer/</clipSource>

Mash-up Gone Crazy

clipped by: jlapac
clipper's remarks: EveryBlock has the potential to become one of the greatest information sources of all time. They are taking data that people really want and putting it on a map. They are using reports and statistics that are already gathered and putting them together so you can look at your neighborhood in new ways.

Tara Calishan has written a great article about them at her site and they really do answer their email, if you contact them.

Clip Source: www.researchbuzz.org

EveryBlock Gives You The Skinny On Your Neighborhood — At Least in Three Cities

Confessions of a Digital Packrat had a brief note about a new resource launched called EveryBlock. I went and took a look at it, and it IS pretty impressive — though I’m very jealous that it’s currently only available in three areas. EveryBlock ( http://www.everyblock.com/ ) currently only covers New York City, San Francisco, and Chicago.

Basically what EveryBlock does is take public records and other notations of what’s going on in an area and aggregate them. This is brilliant. It’s like information trapping for an address. For example take a look at the New York City version.

You can browse the information types or the various areas of a city, or you can do an address search. I did a search for 55 East 74th Street , because you know the Eleanor Roosevelt Mansion is up for sale, and I might have $20 million in my sofa cushions. Not.

Tags: optional. separate by commas., technology, search, library

<clipSource>http://www.researchbuzz.org/wp/2008/02/12/everyblock-gives-you-the-skinny-on-your-neighborhood-at-least-in-three-cities/</clipSource>

Keep your Online Shopping Under Control

clipped by: jlapac
clipper's remarks: If you shop online a lot, this site might work well for you.
